So, does anyone still want to argue with me that the butterfly keyboard was flawed? Because you had no problems doing so the other 4(?) times Apple tweaked it. Apple seems to agree with me now that they ditched the thing completely.

Looks like a great machine that checks a lot of the complaint boxes. Curious that Apple wouldn’t do a little release event around it. I know all about the history of these laptop updates, but given the dissatisfiers with the prior generation I’d think they’d call as much attention as possible to the improvements (at the same time without suggesting there were a problem with the current tech for sale!).

I wish apple would do away the bezel instead. I don't understand the reason for sticking with wireless AC and not the AX like the iPhone 11 pro?

it's $6099 on the US store for the 'top' model with all hardware options maxed.

$6K for a laptop with 64GB of ram and 8TB of ridiculously fast SSD isn't bad at all.

The problem is that Americans never realise the price differences that exist in the rest of the world with Apple products. I bet in Greece the maxed-out version will reach over $8k...

To clarify - I’m not American (I did check the price on their store though) and I’m well aware of the “poor” FX rate apple uses to calculate prices - I grew up in Australia.

Yup, had numerous problems with our 2017 rMBP 15
Just placed order for 32gb ram and 2TB SSD as I expect this one to hopefully last as long as my 2012 did...

A top spec 16" is $6,099 USD and $9,679 AUD. But, the US price doesn't include tax and the AUD price does include GST. Tax in my area (8.25%) brings the US total to $6,602. That converts to $9,659 AUD at today's currency exchange, which is only $20 AUD off the Australian pricing. Seems spot on to me.

I was HOPING the display was being upgraded to HDR or faster response speed as the reason for moving to a 16" screen.

It was/is flawed but doesn't mean it isn't usable. Happily typing away on my 2016 butterfly keyboard right now.

It's to do with how 9th generation Intel CPUs do no support AX, only the 10th generation Intel CPUs do currently.

you watch next fall will be a new redesign considering this is only the third year with the current design. I’m waiting for a redesign of the 13 to 14 inch

That would be an event that highlights all the Apple missteps in the previous years. No wonder they decided not to do it. There is nothing special about this Mac Pro. Just catching up with the rest of the industry.

Historically it’s not been like that, even allowing for tax. The Aussie dollar had a bit of a roller coaster (it was stronger than the USD for a while not that long ago) but apple pricing didn’t always reflect that change quickly.

I’m not complaining so much as saying I understand that sometimes regional pricing doesn’t seem to match up.

I know right, who is apple kidding, every other manufacturer starts at 8TB SSDs

I’m sorry but if they keyboards were this problematic they get fixed, period, regardless of 5 year plans or whatever. Gruber says the buck stops with Ive here. Really? Phil Schiller got up on stage in October 2016 to announce the new MBP with butterfly keyboard. Are we to believe Schiller was on stage announcing a product he didn’t believe in or knew to be faulty? If so what does that say about Schiller?
...

Schiller is their marketing guy. That is his job.

I like so much this new MBP 16, it seems a perfect machine. Just I want to see If Apple mounted a new Thunderbolt 3 controller because the Intel JHL7540 supports up to 100W system charging ( and it seems ok ) but the power supply is 96W so it is closed to the controller high limit (only 4W of margin)...

Americans "realize the price differences that exist" but we're not intimately aware of the differences for every country in the world.

My gosh, generalize much?

The difference is about 1200 just here in Europe it will be euros compared to US dollars I mean 6000 usd will be around 7200 euros

For a mostly casual user can you tell me if the 2.6 i7 runs cooler or would have better battery life over the 2.3 i9?

With education pricing a 2.6 , 1tb , 5500 4gb is $2439 as opposed to the 2.3 with similar capacities for $2599

The 1.8tflop 460 was ok for me but looks like 5500 will be around 4.6 a 2.5x improvement and will help with my sometimes choppy civ6 or Xcom2

Guys, do you realize how big a shift this is for Apple? They gave us a laptop that was HEAVIER and THICKER so that it can be 100x better! This might signal the end of the dark ages for Apple. This looks like a laptop worthy as a successor to the 2015MBP! It might even be worthy of the 2010 17" MBP, but I have my doubts about the thermals and fan noise - we shall see.

(To clarify - by Dark ages, I'm referring to the design of their pro laptops. Obviously these were not dark ages in a business sense for Apple.)

I don’t know about yours but my 2011 MBP17 got a lot damn hotter than my 2018 MBP15 has.

But otherwise I agree - a focus on performance that can influence the physical attributes seems to have been introduced.

That he is doing is job as Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing.
His job is to try and sell you on buying products, regardless of how good or bad they are.

I'd frankly be concerned for anyone that thinks he wasn't going to do that.

It just means up to 100W, so it is safe, anything over 100W would be outside of it's safe operation range. I'd imagine that it could go past the 100W limit but wouldn't be recommended nor safe.

There's always next year for that, I'd expect HDR to be announced next year.

I know it but for lifetime don’t use an electronic component close to its max spec.
