With all the Macbook Pro 15's that have $300 off right now they are just cleaning out what is left of the old inventory before a launch soon.
No one is going to buy an outdated product unless the new product comes out.

I don't care how powerful it is as long as it's thin, light, and eco-friendly. That's the real purpose of computing.

It’s 2020 can we calm down on this and just wait
Agreed. I'm not sure why this season people are taking the rumor mill to be complete fact. Everyone exclaimed an event was happening to release Airtags, MBP, Mac Pro, new iPads. And I'm just like, these are mostly RUMORS folks. The only confirmed item for the quarter is the Mac Pro.

My 2012 macbook pro nvidia gpu is cooked and I am using nv purge wrangler to disable Val the use of the gpu. If this new macbook doesn't have at least a Magsafe charger then I still wont upgrade over my broken macbook pro.
If you’re waiting for an apple supplied MagSafe/equivalent I think you’ll be waiting forever.

More connectivity, if only ! maybe 6 TB3/usb

6x TB3 would be nice but are there enough pci lanes in recent mobile CPUs/whatever to drive that many ports, plus all the internal stuff?

Give us this speech at the end of the week if nothing is released, will you?

Yes, we know these are rumors but they are coming at us very fast, very frequently, and from various sources with similar reports.

Nobody is taking it as fact. We are taking it as being optimistic.

Correct.

I think Magsafe is gone forever.

I am looking to get one of these

Just have to do some more research on reviews before I purchase

I doubt that 16-inch MBP is ready to sell for this year. If the product is still underway, they still need more time to ship them to Apple.

I badly need to update my macbook and am glad they are fixing the keyboard, but the 2020 model looks so much nicer with the faster intel graphics (2x faster) and hardware av1 decoding on chip in tiger lake

Apple has more competition for laptop sales then ever before. They need a updated product to compete with the likes of Microsoft, Dell, HP and the like. Apple makes so much money off the iPhone product line and they have product technology down to a science. They can change up a model, every 6 months if they wanted.

Having a killer new Macbook Pro to sit next to the new Mac Pro they will have a win win for their business products.

That technology is aimed at the regular Macbook model, not the Macbook Pro model.

Oh boy are you right!

Don't think I don't sit here and look at Windows computers because I am getting tired of Apple trailing the pack.

The thing is, I installed Windows BootCamp and for the life of me, I can't find comparable substitutions for many of the OS X apps I use every day.

On top of that, I am so vested in the ecosystem and the alerts/sharing across all my devices that it just doesn't make sense to go with a Windows laptop.

I had been so ready to buy this laptop last month but the delay gave me time to deeply consider what I need in a portable right now. I wanted this but didn't need it (yet).

I concluded that Intel's difficulty in lowering their die size to 10 nm, much less 7 nm makes high performance chips in "Pro" laptops thermal hogs that aren't worth the battery drain and performance throttling unless you absolutely need to have it in a portable right now and can live with the tradeoffs.

I went with the new Air for now (cheap decision) and even the little Core i5 in it can't get me through an entire day (e-mail, web browsing, occasional videos and music). Just... wth, Intel?

You are probably missing this kind of situation.....

Exactly. And battery life for me too. Couldn’t go 30 minutes on a full charge. Decided to do the replacement myself to get some more life out of it until this new one comes out.

At half the price of the Mac Pro tower it should do the job over the 5 years.
Completely agree here and I’m in the same scenario. The savings can just be put towards the next upgrade vs upgrading and extending the life of an older machine

Yes with Apple doing trade in now, even if you get some money back on a 5 year old machine, you can put it back into getting the latest model of Macbook Pro.

Again...rumors...

The 16" MBP has been in production for months.

Those rumors began before the fall season.

So, hypothetically, if true, Apple has stock on hand.

I agree, and they can ramp up production lines if the new model start to sell like crazy. But you are talking about a high end machine so they are not selling them like a $700 iPhone so they can ramp production up to meet a large demand if it occurs with sales. I am sure production lines have been running for months now so they can meet demand.

I just want to be able to replace the damn battery. my $1500 iPhone let's me replace the battery but my $4500 computer doesn't? so annoying. My AppleCare runs out this month. My battery just ballooned in the nick of time for a free replacement that includes everything glued to the battery(keyboard, Touch Bar etc) Here is hoping I don't have to drop $800 next year because of apple's stupidity.
You can definitely replace the battery. Out of warranty battery service through Apple is $199, maybe you can find it cheaper somewhere else. I would not recommend a non-Apple replacement however.

Has Apple ever announced and released a product this late in the year before? Especially a pro product? It’s 5 weeks to Xmas now!
6 weeks and 2 days.

Does Apple need to do a whole show for every little product? Just put out a press release and release it. It's a new size for an already existing generation in an already existing product line - how much can possibly said about it?

So, there is an interesting thing. Jason Snell of the Upgrade podcast often gets pre-release stuff. They are not recording today because his co-host is traveling. However, they don't have a live recording scheduled, and often when Myke is away they have a guest fill in.

It could just be they will record when they can, and release when they can. Or, Jason is sitting on an embargo. Myke is in Denmark, so I am slightly more leaning towards scheduling. But none of the embargo crowd have mentioned anything about the 16" rumors which is interesting.

People forget that you need to cycle the laptop batteries like you do a phone. Keeping it plugged in continuously are not good for the batteries if you follow good charging and draining process your batteries should last a long time, not just 3 years. And even if they last 6 years, that is a long time for a battery life.

This is my assumption: 16-inch MBP is still 4th gen MBP.

- The overall design itself is very identical to 4th gen MBP. The monitor is slightly bigger and slimmer but that's it. This is one of the biggest proofs.

- 16-inch MBP rumored to start from $3000 which is way expansive than 15-inch MBP.

- Both keyboard and touch bar have slightly different and have improvements but it doesnt mean it's 5th gen design. There are 3rd gen MBP with a trackpad which 4th gen MBP has.

- If Apple trying to announce it in this year without a proper event like WWDC or Oct special event, then it makes sense cause it's 4th gen MBP.

- Several sources keep mentioning that 13-inch and 15-inch will get a scissor-type keyboard. If 16-inch replaces 15-inch, why would they keep 15-inch?

If it were that simple, the iPad wouldn't be offered in a cellular variant either.
I’ve always been surprised that MBP didn’t offer a cellular option. In the early-mid 2000s they were offered by Dell, IBM and others via a PCMCIA slot sometimes or on the motherboard. I guess they didn’t really catch on.

I’d love to be able to add it as a $20 device on my AT&T unlimited data family plan. Sure you can use the hot spot on your phone but AT&T limits me to 15GB, and it drains my iPhone so I end up keeping it plugged in to a USB port. Built into MBP would be so much cleaner.

If you’re spending over $2,500.... you would be a fool to buy the 2019 MacBook Pro 15 if it’s euiped with anything less than a Vega Pro 16
