while missing wifi 6 is interesting, i'm surprised they didnt bump the resolution to support 4k

I'll get one in a year or two when the prices go down a bit. All because of trade in value. A year or two old unit is less than a 1000.00 trade in. Come on now.. might as well sell elsewhere, recoup funds and purchase a used unit later.

Does anyone know B&H Photo's lag time in stocking the latest? Sales tax is meaningful on these!

Sorry, but I just have to chuckle at all the folks who a month or two ago bought the 2019 15-incher, with the flawed keyboard, way worse thermal management ... absolutely convinced this one wouldn't come out anytime soon, or be way too expensive.

Now you're kinda stuck with one of the laptops that is part of what will arguably be remembered as one of the worst series of laptop designs Apple ever made.

Then you sir, are a ****. Laughing at others’ misfortune.

What makes you so sure that this machine isn’t flawed in some way? It is not even in the hands of the users yet.

£5,769.00 for a laptop fully loaded! Are they crazy or just plain greedy. Even £2,799 for entry level is going to be too expensive for most. For that you can buy a 2nd car!

Just tell your boss how much faster your workflow will be with this machine. It will pay off rather quickly.

Haha - just remember if you use this argument then you will actually have to do some work at work to deliver on your word ... :)

Impressive machine but I'm still loving my space grey 2017 and, fingers crossed, have no issues with the keyboard so far 🤞

No current plans to upgrade but wouldn't hesitate to make this purchase if I were currently in the market for a new notebook.

You must be crazy if you think that everybody would need that fully loaded laptop. This isn't the only option for a MacBook Pro you know. People who need the fully loaded one for their workflow will make their money back on it within months.

Apple provide higher spec options that, guess what, cost more money.

Seems all resellers will have stock around 1-2 weeks from now. Not sure when they'll actually start taking orders. I imagine all existing 15" models will have huge markdowns soon. B&H were delaying 2-4 weeks for some BTO 15" models recently.

Hey so I was wondering about the physical size compared to the last one so looked it up - for anyone else wondering:

MBP 16":
Height 1.62 cm (0.64 inches)
Width 35.79 cm (14.09 inches)
Depth 24.59 cm (9.68 inches)
Weight 2.0 kg (4.3 pounds)

MBP 15":
Height: 1.55 cm (0.61 inches)
Width: 34.93 cm (13.75 inches)
Depth: 24.07 cm (9.48 inches)
Weight: 1.83 kg (4.02 pounds)

Those hardware vulnerabilities really only matter for multi-user server environments though. Doesn't really matter on single-user laptops.

To leak data across processes via things like Spectre takes a LOT of processor just to leak a few bits.

Given that, Intel really needs to step up and get their 45watt mobile 10nm processors out and into these machines ASAP. They at least have AVX-512.

Actually not.
Spectre is more dangers to end user instead of web servers.
It affect virtual machine servers so cloud vendor are affected more than those content providers.

For normal user running javascript in browser is already running a untrusted code and if the pattern is not something already in browser's blacklist then you are doomed.

Currently have a 2016-Esc and a gaming desktop i7-3770 with a RX5700. It is tempting to trade in and sell the card, though I never liked the size of 15"...

Hopefully they release a smaller 13/14-inch 10nm IL with the new keyboard design soon. It would be nice to have that combined with an eGPU for better portability.

Overall looks like they're going in the right direction, though hope they release updated versions with new keyboards for the smaller models.

They removed 15" which was, in my opinion, fairly priced for this? Yikes Apple, are investors looking for more capital before Christmas?

I know I'm not every user, but I've had a 512gb SSD in my late 2013 rMBP and honestly I don't see a use for more. I'm a professional photographer and often travel the world. When I go on week long trips for photoshoots I MIGHT take about 200-300gb worth of RAW images if I'm being very shutter happy. When I get back home these are all offloaded onto external drives with RAID and multiple backups. To me a laptop is for things just like this. Use them until you get home and offload the info to your main system. I can't imagine a need for 8TB of storage lol. Again I know I'm not every user. That and the cheap price of external drives makes the price of the internal 8TB storage just seem very unreasonable. If I get a new one I may get a 1TB at most. 32GB of RAM is welcome though.

All things considered, it's rather fairly priced, especially for an i9-9980HK cpu with 64 GB RAM and 1 TB hard drive ($3800). It's right on par with a pimped out HP Precision 15 7540 with similar specs. ... actually I think you're getting a better deal with the Macbook considering the included graphics and the superior screen. What am I saying??

The only thing that stands out as abominable is the SSD upgrade pricing. $2200 to add another 7 TB... Oh wait, it's $3200 to add another 5 TB to the HP (total of 6 and that's the max)... Well done, Apple.

I posted below in the benchmarks thread:

Looks to be about right in the middle between size and weight of a late 2013 MBP 15" and a mid 2019 MBP 15". Never really had issues lugging my 2013 MBP 15" around or fitting into camera backpacks. Might be the first initial version of an Apple product I'm purchasing since the switch to Intel CPUs.
