I priced out a maxed out 16 inch, and it is cheaper than the maxed out 2018 15 inch, even though it has much better specs. So, just for giggles, I went through Apple's trade in page to see what I could get for my 2018 MacBook Pro 15 inch, i9, 32GB RAM, 4TB drive, perfect condition. My trade in value: Zero.

Suck it Apple.

Is there something wrong with it? My 2018 with lower specs will get me €770 (also suck it Apple). However I'm wodnering if I could transfer over my AppleCare to the new pruchase?

I do the occasional video editing in 1080 and 4k maybe 1-2 times a week along with Lightroom running as well at times and with minimal back background multiple tasks; mail, browsing, etc.. What specs should I go for? I was thinking the base of the base with the upgraded graphics 5500??

Well, Apple is delivering some value with this one. An improved screen, and it offers more storage at the same price point. Finally Apple manages to offer 512 GB at the base level.

This machine looks awesome. Can't believe how far you can push the spec. I would buy one if I didn't think that the 15 (now 16) inch form factor was too big.

Really hope this means that the 13 inch will get replaced by a new 14 inch with some similar upgrades. Early next year maybe? Hard to justify rolling out a keyboard fix and leaving the smaller laptops as they are for an extended period of time. I don't expect the 13/14 inch to go as far in spec as the 16, (64GB ram, 8TB, etc), but 32GB ram, maybe 4TB and a decent stand-alone graphics card would have me buying in a heartbeat. The integrated graphics has been the 13-incher's Achilles heal.

I wrote in an earlier thread that Apple no longer makes good hardware, and that that really broke my heart.

This tune changes now. That is a ****ing SICK laptop. Wow! Even the GPU is awesome!

Yeah the chipset is a bit dated, so we get 9th gen CPU's and no WiFi6, but those are fairly small technical hurdles on the logic board, not structural defects with the machine's design.

This looks fantastic.
"Awesome" seems like a bit of a stretch for those GPUs, though as far as I'm aware this is the first time we've seen RDNA outside of the desktop 5700s so who knows?

That statement includes a lot of assumptions, such as the fact that they are RDNA and not Vega, based on the numbering and the fact that they stopped slapping Vega all over the purchase page, and also that 5300 and 5500 indicate that are lower-tier versions of that microarchitecture, meaning lesser performance than the 5700.

But all things considered we might be able to see similar GPU horses to laptops fitted with, say, GTX 1660 ti's, which while as I said I wouldn't call that awesome, is a decent upgrade.

What's the stupid idea of can holding 64GB and 8TB if you CAN'T replace it later???
Sad damn days, I remember the glory days when I can add more ram later.

Whoa, seriously? That sounds crazy enough I'm almost thinking it's a bug in the trade-in site.

Not that Apple isn't crazy, just that that result is so mind-bendingly insane it's even crazy for Apple.

So the biggest iMac SSD is 2TB. This goes to 8TB.

Surely this is a sign that the iMac will get replaced with a new model next year.

$9679 AUD for a laptop? I don't care how good it is, no laptop is worth that. They are taking the smeg.

The high end is one thing, but even the 13" model "pro" machines cost $2699 AUD for a computer with INTEGRATED INTEL GRAPHICS. Those things are not compatible "Pro" and "integrated graphics"; its outright fraud!

When it comes to bang for buck, these computers have the relative specs of iBooks and macbooks from years past. But selling at their contemporary Powerbook and Macbook Pro prices with an additional ~50% markup.

Is there significant difference between 2400$ and 2800$ macbook pro 16 inch if u wanna play games sometimes

Reminds me of laptop prices in the late 80s, early 90s - basically unaffordable except to large companies...

I was thinking those lines where Apple was perceived as super luxury and most buyers didn’t even bother to consider except those high earning creative artists and very highly paid freelance professionals in my place.

It became reasonably priced in 2008-2014 again becoming like super luxury!

Though this release seems to be fairly consistent with pricing, perceived value seems to be higher than recent year editions. But I feel there will be another refresh by bumping prices including wifi6 sooner than later..

Have you considered a Mac Mini? They're lovely little machines, and as long as you're happy with external storage and you don't let Apple upgrade your RAM, they're not really even overpriced!
