They removed 15" which was, in my opinion, fairly priced for this? Yikes Apple, are investors looking for more capital before Christmas?

This new one is cheaper than the last one... what are you talking about ?

I posted below in the benchmarks thread:

Looks to be about right in the middle between size and weight of a late 2013 MBP 15" and a mid 2019 MBP 15". Never really had issues lugging my 2013 MBP 15" around or fitting into camera backpacks. Might be the first initial version of an Apple product I'm purchasing since the switch to Intel CPUs.

MBP 16" 2019
Height: 0.64 inch (1.62 cm)
Width: 14.09 inches (35.79 cm)
Depth: 9.68 inches (24.59 cm)
Weight: 4.3 pounds (2.0 kg)

MBP 15" Late 2013
Height: 0.71 inch (1.8 cm)
Width: 14.13 inches (35.89 cm)
Depth: 9.73 inches (24.71 cm)
Weight: 4.46 pounds (2.02 kg)

MBP 15" 2019
Height: 0.61 inch (1.55 cm)
Width: 13.75 inches (34.93 cm)
Depth: 9.48 inches (24.07 cm)
Weight: 4.02 pounds (1.83 kg)

I must have missed the thread. Honestly I dont' really want 16" - gimme these specs in a 14" and I'll be happy haha. I'm considering now perhaps a 2019 15" on refurb vs a 16". No rush however

Assuming thermals are fixed, this is one hell of a machine. Perfect? No, that would mean SD card, HDMI and USB-A port, but it's still the laptop to beat right now. Good job Apple!

Definitely a step in the right direction. Only real complaints I have are that they didn't remove the stupid touch screen completely and the price, which is 2800€ or about $3080, where I'm from. That's with VAT, but still... I remember when the baseline 15" MBP was around 2000€, less with a student discount, bought three over the years, but settled for a second hand one last time I upgraded.

Not that I can't afford one, but being in the process of saving up for a deposit on an apartment and now paying off a mortgage that's just more than I can justify spending on a laptop. Even if I could afford to just go out and buy one.

Yup. But on the other hand, if you did a little bit of research before your buy, you'd know that you were forking up money on a flawed product.
Sorry, but I just have to chuckle at all the folks who a month or two ago bought the 2019 15-incher, with the flawed keyboard, way worse thermal management ... absolutely convinced this one wouldn't come out anytime soon, or be way too expensive.

Now you're kinda stuck with one of the laptops that is part of what will arguably be remembered as one of the worst series of laptop designs Apple ever made.
I bought a 15” in 2018 when it came out. I knew there were keyboard problems but I was comforted by the fact that there was the new membrane. I knew about the throttling but I got a base configuration which wasn’t going to throttle like the ones with better processors. I needed a laptop and I couldn‘t wait an unspecific amount of time (turned out to be over a year). honestly, instead of calling people chumps for needing a laptop at the wrong time, I think we should be pointing out how Apple should have released this model two years ago.

Why would they do that? 4k resolution is for a huge desktop screen. For a 16" screen it's useless. All it does is make the GPU slower and cost battery life. You can't see the difference.

What about running the display at non-native resolution 3360x2100 by default?

Why the hell they ship that 3072‑by‑1920 display and do not support natively 1536x960@2x?

Hey so I was wondering about the physical size compared to the last one so looked it up - for anyone else wondering:

MBP 16":
Height 1.62 cm (0.64 inches)
Width 35.79 cm (14.09 inches)
Depth 24.59 cm (9.68 inches)
Weight 2.0 kg (4.3 pounds)

MBP 15":
Height: 1.55 cm (0.61 inches)
Width: 34.93 cm (13.75 inches)
Depth: 24.07 cm (9.48 inches)
Weight: 1.83 kg (4.02 pounds)
For comparison the 2015 15" is:
  • Height: 0.71 inch (1.8 cm)
  • Width: 14.13 inches (35.89 cm)
  • Depth: 9.73 inches (24.71 cm)
  • Weight: 4.49 pounds (2.04 kg)2
So it's actually still smaller and lighter! :)

I priced out a maxed out 16 inch, and it is cheaper than the maxed out 2018 15 inch, even though it has much better specs. So, just for giggles, I went through Apple's trade in page to see what I could get for my 2018 MacBook Pro 15 inch, i9, 32GB RAM, 4TB drive, perfect condition. My trade in value: Zero.

Suck it Apple.

A lot better value than the 15" for sure
  • Larger display
  • Better keyboard
  • Louder speakers
  • New microphones
  • Higher base storage
  • Faster graphics
Not saying this machine is perfect but it's certainly not the absolute ripoff the 15" was

I know I'm not every user, but I've had a 512gb SSD in my late 2013 rMBP and honestly I don't see a use for more. I'm a professional photographer and often travel the world. When I go on week long trips for photoshoots I MIGHT take about 200-300gb worth of RAW images if I'm being very shutter happy. When I get back home these are all offloaded onto external drives with RAID and multiple backups. To me a laptop is for things just like this. Use them until you get home and offload the info to your main system. I can't imagine a need for 8TB of storage lol. Again I know I'm not every user. That and the cheap price of external drives makes the price of the internal 8TB storage just seem very unreasonable. If I get a new one I may get a 1TB at most. 32GB of RAM is welcome though.

I think in this day and age, a lot of people are moving from desktop/laptop to laptop/tablet setup. If I end up with one, I'd probably go for 32Gb RAM/2Tb, but can definitely see fringe cases for 4K video in the field using 8Tb. At the very least, great for them to offer the option, just like 64Gb RAM.

No , you are wrong - believe or not - some of us use USB-A ports, some of us use Magic Safe, some of use SD cards, some of us don't see the point of touch bar etc ( and please don;t say me to buy a dongles ) ....At least ( I hope ) they fixed the worst keyboard in the history....

I was hoping they would add at least USB-A, but that ship has sailed for sure. I gave up on both, and will end up breaking down next year and getting one of these. :(

Will the 16" be able to run Mojave? I'm staying on Mojave for now because of some old 32-bit apps I need to migrate away from. I was about to push the order button before realizing I needed to know!

£5,769.00 for a laptop fully loaded! Are they crazy or just plain greedy. Even £2,799 for entry level is going to be too expensive for most. For that you can buy a 2nd car!
Apple's computers were always expensive. 5769 are a bit much, but you are talking about 64GB of RAM, 8TB of SSD, and maxed GPU. Even if you need maxed GPU, very very very few people need 64GB of RAM and 8TB of SSD. Perhaps lower the spec of the machine and you could get it at a lower price close to what you could afford and need.
Don't get me wrong, I can't afford even the base model and I am stuck with a 2012 Mac Mini, but such is life.

Waitaminute....

A Mac base model that isn't crippled by RAM/storage?????

Wow.....

(still happy with my maxed out 2017 12" rMB but if a 16" had been available at that price and with decent specs.......)

That 720p camera tho...
RIGHT?? STILL!!

And if you go take a look at the first impression videos on YouTube it actually sounds like their "studio" mic is a significant upgrade, it sounds pretty nice. Shame we can't just get the selfie-cam from an iPhone into the bezels of these laptops...

Cheapskate Apple still does not want to pay for state art wi-fi 802.11ax and LPDDR4 RAM! Did not update the 13” MacBook Pro to 14” with slimmer bezel. LOL!
