I’ve now had 6 keys die on two machines with the butterfly keyboard in the last couple years. Compare that with 0 keys dead on 8 macbook pros/airs with scissor keyboards in the years before that.

Yeah, the butterfly is flawed.

Was it the KB a 2019 version or an earlier iteration?

Why are you so mean?

Well, its that for those of us who absolutely hated the 2016-2019 mbps and were clamboring for a redesign, every one who talked about how great they were and bought one may have helped delay us getting a laptop that doesnt suck.

Were it not for so many of us who complained, AND refused to buy the butterfly models, I doubt we would be seeing this new redesign with a proper keyboard and thermal managment.

This is the design Apple should've put out 4 years ago (even if it's still too soon for USB-C only, and I'll forever miss MagSafe and the glowing logo).

Glad to see that my (initial) excitement over the Mac Pro from WWDC was rewarded here, though. I don't recall Apple backpedaling like this since the FireWire 800 omission in the Unibody Macbook, if ever.

Now, I'll wait for 2 things: that the reliability of the keyboard is proven and for Apple to migrate the changes to the rest of the laptop line. In an age where people use an iPad as their main computer, I just don't need this much power anymore.

But I just might replace my 17 at last, even if they're still charging WAY TOO MUCH for storage upgrades.

Check the refurb store in your country. I'm seeing them in Europe with ok prices [not great].

As of today 11/13, the lowest @apple.com. What do you think?

The 9th Gen Intel CPU with hardware vulnerabilities is a hair in the soup.
Maybe you should start speaking with your wallet and stop purchasing Apple products if you're always this unhappy with their products. Put your money where your mouth is.

Not trolling but I've seen multiple posts on no Wifi 6 so not what everyone has been asking ;)
802.11ac is plenty fast now, but I'd prefer to see 802.11ax support for longevity reasons. Any MacBook Pro released today will have a user base 7-8 years from now.

Oh well, maybe next year. Three years ago I promised myself I would not buy a new Mac laptop without an increase in the screen PPI, so this is just another reason to add to the pile...

$9679 AUD for a laptop? I don't care how good it is, no laptop is worth that. They are taking the smeg.

The high end is one thing, but even the 13" model "pro" machines cost $2699 AUD for a computer with INTEGRATED INTEL GRAPHICS. Those things are not compatible "Pro" and "integrated graphics"; its outright fraud!

When it comes to bang for buck, these computers have the relative specs of iBooks and macbooks from years past. But selling at their contemporary Powerbook and Macbook Pro prices with an additional ~50% markup.

Do you need such a machine for your everyday work? If so you should know what an equally equipped Windows PC will cost: more!

Wow! How childish.

Also, as recently as a week ago, there were rumors that the new 16in MBP wouldn't be out until 2020. So, prospective buyers got a fair amount of whiplash on this announcement.

Some people just don't have the luxury of making all of their buying decisions based on the last posted tech rumor. They need to get on with their lives and get stuff done. Did it occur to you that some folks had to upgrade or replace their computers to meet pressing commitments or deadlines? My son was working on a special research project for a professor from his former University, and his existing computer simply could not handle the statistical analysis and large scale data manipulation that he needed to perform within his time constraints. So, this summer, he got the recently released 15 inch MBP. He is very happy with it. Absolutely no problems.

My comments were not directed at people who were boxed in a corner, and had to buy, albiet knowing and regretting the design of the 2016-2019 models.
Rather there were a good number of folks on these threads who acted like the butterfly mbp’s were the best thing since sliced bread. My comments were directed at them.

Were it not for so many of us who conplained, AND refused to buy the butterflly models, its debateable whether apple would have changed course like this

I guess i will need to wait few years more until they raise the size up to 17" again, so I can replace my old 17" MBP for a new predecessor :D (16" is way too expensive for ordinary men)

Here is one of the more subtle signs of Apple heading in the right direction - for so many years they'd been breathlessly telling us, at Mac announcements, "and it's X mm thinner". Nobody outside of Apple was asking for thinner, they were asking for increased battery life and thermal capacity (and the return of user replaceable bits and a few more ports, oh well). Now, Apple has released a new machine with the theme "we heard what what you've been saying" (new keyboard, Esc key, etc.), and it isn't thinner - it's 7mm thicker. And Apple is citing increased battery life and better cooling capacity in their descriptions. This is a good step.
*0.7mm, which is frankly going to be virtually undetectable. I'm just impressed coming from a 2015 15" this is still going to be technically smaller in every dimension, (noticeably thinner) and a smidgen lighter as well!

Is there something wrong with it? My 2018 with lower specs will get me €770 (also suck it Apple). However I'm wodnering if I could transfer over my AppleCare to the new pruchase?

Nope. Mint condition. I wouldn't care about upgrading to the 16 inch normally, but that 8TB is enticing (I use lots of storage).

Does anyone know B&H Photo's lag time in stocking the latest? Sales tax is meaningful on these!

Seems all resellers will have stock around 1-2 weeks from now. Not sure when they'll actually start taking orders. I imagine all existing 15" models will have huge markdowns soon. B&H were delaying 2-4 weeks for some BTO 15" models recently.

B&H now has all 180 combinations of the 16" MBP listed on their website. It's kind of a mess right now and I'm sure they will eventually clean this up.

Model Numbers:

Wouldn’t it be AWESOME if there was an alternative for a faster more powerful chip? This is still the TOP end for Intel high end mobile chips and it doesn’t support LPDDR4!... just one of the things holding back performance.

Is LP faster, or is it just less power hungry?

Very happy with this. Seems like a winner. I almost bought a 15 inch this week....
I'm getting a lot more for the same money.
I'm in the exact same boat. Been holding off on the 15" for a few weeks now.

Same price, significant upgrades, double base storage and 16" screen? Slam dunk for me.

i can't tell if the ram is upgradeable. Apple says it's not user-accessible, but does that mean it's soldered in or just hard to get to?
Apple’s been soldering RAM for years. It means you can’t upgrade after the purchase, I believe there ARE benefits to non-socket RAM.

I just ordered mine. I'm really happy about the specs and features, particularly scissor keyboard. I've been waiting 7 years for this.
I just ordered my fully maxed with my veterans discount. Still came to 6224.77 after taxes with Apple care. I’ve been waiting for 64GB RAM on MacBook Pro forever. Had to deal with gaming laptops prior to this. It will arrive by the 25th. Now it’s time to start consolidating my gear and be more portable.

And so the wait begins (for a sale or a refurb).
Yes yes I know…

You can call me cheap if you want but with how they devalue, I always like to get a good deal upfront

I bet this will be iJustine's main laptop now. Fully loaded so she can do her Final Cut Pro stuff.

I’ll bet it’s “OMG Amazing!” :p :p
