Just curious, but do Apple ever do market research, or do they just assume that they know better than the "market"?

I ask as it seems that I am not the only one who will not look at this if it pursues Jonny's eternal desire for thinner at any cost - such costs including the rubbish keyboard (any iteration of the butterfly keys) and flashy gimmicks, i.e. Touchbar, and as few holes in their aluminium block as possible, i.e. USB-C for everything despite the great innovation of Magsafe and professional users need for at least one USB port and the nice to have SD card slot for photographers who do not want to carry a pocket full of dongles.

As a technical writer, always using Office anyway as that is what all my clients use, once my early 2015 MacBook Pro expires I will exercise my option to choose what I need and the choice available means a switch Window PCs after 30 years of being an avid Mac-user.

This computer's worth depends on the specs they HAVEN'T revealed.

I find the MacBook Pros to be the best all-in-one Apple at this time, and the price isn't too outlandish (if you do productivity, daily). The screen is the least of my interests, and I recommend anyone focused on productivity to use the central laptop as a desktop with portable capabilities--get a better external monitor to meet your needs. Get a hub, if needed.

Ultimately, the worth will depend on the CPU and GPU and memory and battery size/life.

it seems you dont understand the scaling system of the macOS Catalina. So no, no blurry image

No. I think YOU don't understand it.
macOS randers internally @2x resolution... and scales it down to fit the resolution of the display.
With an integer scaling you have something like 1pt = 2x2px.
With a non-integer scaling... like say 150% 1pt = 1.5x1.5px... which simply does not work. So the 1pt is displayed as 1x1px or 2x2px...

To be fair we do have 1920x1200 UI space with a 1.5x retina. Not as crystal clear as 2x retina but I think most people are hard pressed to notice a visual difference between the two. The UI space however is exactly what we would have with a 3840 wide 4k display. At that DPI however one needs to wonder just how significant moving to 4k would really be for the 15" display. I'm an app developer and at that DPI (141 DPI) I rarely notice a significant difference between 2x and 1.5x image assets. I just don't think the visual advantage would outweigh the cost. Plus it would have the disadvantage of not looking as good at 1440 (2880) wide at 109DPI which is what is the optimal viewing size for that screen size. More people struggle with higher DPI values and if the display was 4k it would have to scale down which doesn't look as good as the current 15" does at that resolution. We notice the scaling softness a lot more at that size. The 1920 scaled mode on the current 15" works very well because the details are so small its very difficult to see any imperfections or scaling softness.

Answers why it does make a huge difference.

If it has a full travel keyboard, OLED display and USB-A, SD and HDMI ports, this will sell like hotcakes. Of course, it won't have any of that. They'll talk about how "impossibly thin" it is

I wish people would stop talking about USB-A. USB-C uptake from manufacturers is already slow enough as it is.

I can’t wait to see it. I wonder what will be different....

It’s only been 3 years since the MBPw/TB originally released.

Now pleeeease redesign the iMac! Lol

Either way, there just seems to be too much smoke concerning this machine coming this year, Ming's report, the 7 newly registered models in the Eurasian database, the 9 to 5 mac podcast guys claiming the keyboard will have a escape key and touch-bar, now this.

It would probably be best to return the 2019 MBP if you can wait few more months.
Welp, unfortunately I need the 2019 I ordered a week ago for a job starting July 4th till November. Already paying a hefty sum for the i9 beast ($5000+ CDN). I kinda shudder to think of how much MORE this updated machine might cost.

Ok, like i said, you dont understand SCALING UNDER macOS CATALINA !! i said specific CATALINA, you know the new release for the fall. Ask an developer how the new scaling works now...Like i said, you are living in the past. I suggest not talk about something you dont know..in this case Catalina and the new macbook pro that isnt even official presented

And stop reading articles 2 years old with macOS Mavericks Sierra and H Sierra that worked very well since the introduction of the first retina macbook pro back in 2012

Larger screen with the same horrible keyboard for a more expensive price. No thanks.
How do you know?? it is the same??

I wont be able to afford it. Im priced out. Apple has double the price of their MBP in the last 15 years even adjusting for inflation. I cant even afford one of the junk ones with integrated graphics. This new computer will set the new price bar.

OLED is great and all that but also not the be all and end all. It's not great for Monitors as it suffers from burn in more than LCD. Fine for content moving TVs.... but not great for that Dock or Window you left open for 5 hours.

HDMI ports... why. HDMI connection IS a part of USB-C spec ( and thunderbolt spec* ) Get a freaking USB-C to HDMI Cable.

SD cards. Not that simple - SD consotium constantly update the SD spec... and it's not alway solvable via Software... I have have Monitors and old Macs that CANNOT read SD UHI Class 3 or the latest 512mb SD cards - Certainly not the New VCS video class speed. V30/V60/V90. Much better to have USB-C dongle for them. Yeah I said dongle.

Keyboard - completely subjective. I love them and I type a lot. Actually cannot stand Mechanical keyboard that some people seem to love.

*still the most confusing thing about Thunderbolt is that it uses a USB-C connector - USB consortium should have really called it something different to the protocol

I just spent £4000 on the new 2019 one arghhhh what do I do return it and wait

Well its not going to come out till September or October I'd guess. I would return it if that's an option.. and get a second hand £1500 one now and then resell that later. It's it's boxed and good condition it won't lose that much value as the 16 will still be was out of reach for someone in the £1500 bracket.

Depends what you need it for I suppose..

I was hoping for 3360x2100, which is the current default resolution of the 15" (1680x1050) quadrupled for @2x integer retina scaling... sounds like this will be keeping the pixel density the same and just adding a bit more resolution, so all 'looks like' resolutions will be scaled. That's not a major issue, it will still look good, though I do find integer scaling does look better. It's probably going to be priced in kidneys on launch though, so I might have to wait a year and hope it succeeds the 15" entirely later next year...

I just returned mine 2 days ago as the news came out. I wanna see what will be launched (hopefully no crappy TB). If I do not like them I still have chances to buy the 2019 MacBook Pro. If you can wait so I would say wait.

Feel free to present the scaling changes in Catalina.

If Apple goes backwards and really does release a laptop with a TFT-LCD display instead of IPS they're freaking insane. TFT-LCD displays are garbage compared to IPS.

It’s very disappointing that they swapped Samsung’s incredible OLED display with LG’s boring LCD display.
I never liked LG’s LCD panels they always lack vibrancy and there is something about them that makes them look boring and stale.
Because they aren’t oversaturated like Samsung’s are. It’s Apple though they will color calibrate it to look exactly the same as all their other displays.

I think you mean TN, and Apple hasn’t used a TN panel in a very long time.
