I completely agree, and had otherwise planned to upgrade from my 14 Pro, but not now
Unless they come out with another mode at this event.

If you cause the end of the presentation, they’re offering anybody with an iPhone 13 or newer any condition up to $1100 to trade for a new phone how could you not do that? Talk about desperate! No it's not worth it, yearly upgrades are for "enthusiasts" who like to have the newest phone every year. Regular users upgrade every 2-4+ years when it's actually worth it.
At $700 for trade in, total cost with tax will come to $600.I don't typically upgrade yearly. And it doesn't even look appealing to. What I'm trying to figure out is if it might make sense financially.
I typically upgrade after 3 years, I have an iPhone 16 Pro 256GB. After tax was $1,303.91.
If I keep it for 3 years cost per year is $434.64, not accounting for trade in.
If with trade in for my 16 Pro, my cost is less then, or about $450 I'll upgrade.
$1100 through a carrier? Not apple itself rightIf you cause the end of the presentation, they’re offering anybody with an iPhone 13 or newer any condition up to $1100 to trade for a new phone how could you not do that? Talk about desperate!
How is it the same phone? If anything there’s more of a difference between the 16 -> 17 than the 15 -> 16I am part of the upgrade program, so technically and easily, I could do the upgrade from 16 Pro Max to 17 Pro Max
But why? It's the same goddamn phone
Very small advancements this year
The better plan? Pay off my 16 Pro Max in the next year through the upgrade program and then sell the phone and put that money toward a foldable or iPhone 18

You could say that about pretty much every model since the 13 by that criteria. The major upgrades are in photography. If you are a photographer or vlogger, I can definitely see the advantage of upgrading.
For those of us who use the phone as a phone and want exceptional photos, the iPhone 16 already does that.
You could say that about pretty much every model since the 13 by that criteria.
The new 17s also have the new cooling system, largest batteries which are both pretty big upgrades, imo.
You can definitely say the same about the Samsung phones for the past couple of years as well. It’s not just Apple, it’s all brands.Yes, and that has been the complaint against Apple for years. Their phones are no longer innovative compared to Samsung. We basically get the same phone every year with evolutionary upgrades over revolutionary.
The cooling system is nice. A few more battery hours over the 16, but not amazingly more. It's the same phone.
Now, Apple is going through a 3-year change with these phones. Next year will be the foldable, which is going to be a revolutionary step for them. That phone is worth waiting for. In 2027, we get the all-glass phone with no bezels. Another revolutionary step for Apple.
But for now, the new iPhone 17 Pro Max seems like the usual small feature step we have gotten used to year after year.
