Since there's no black, it'll depend on how the orange looks.

If it's the same orange as the button on my original Apple Watch Ultra, then the 17 Pro Max 2TB I am ordering (in-store pickup) will be a keeper. If it's some other, flatter, duller, less orangey-orange, then I'll refund it, keep my 16 Pro Max 1TB and see how things are next year.

Would be the first year since the original iPhone I didn't get the latest, highest-spec, phone, if so.

If the 17 Pro Max was available in black? That'd be easy.

My step-dad will like the orange color as it will match his business which is a Whataburger franchise. Whataburger is a fast food hamburger restaurant. Colors are orange & white. I am surprised that there is no black available. Making three colors will speed up production though. Most people will choose orange or blue anyway.

I have an iPhone 16 pro max and am on the new every year plan but for the first year I think I'm skipping. I just can't get over how ugly the new pro phone is. The air is gorgeous and I would go with that but without knowing how the camera is on that I'm not sure on it, I take a ton of pictures on my phone and use all the different features.

I’m not feeling this years iPhone…it feels and looks weird. The air to me is a nicer model when looking at the new phones.

I’m still undecided. This year I am not really seeing any major leaps.

The ONLY way I'd get a 17 PM over what I use now (16 PM) would be if Verizon somehow offered the same $1000 trade-in credit offer they did when I upgraded from a 14PM. Otherwise, I feel upgrading for the camera upgrades isn't really worth it this year 🤔

If next year's "iPhone Fold" is as nice as rumors say, I'd much rather have that! 😁

Hey, ask your Dad to open a Whataburger in Orlando. I haven’t had a Whataburger burger in years. I’m sure it would do great here in central Florida!

As for upgrading, I’m going to wait to see real life camera comparisons for the 16P vs the 17 and 17P. The silver color would not bother me as I use a case anyway.

I always upgrade every two years, I feel that is the “sweet spot” for trade-in value vs new features. With a 16 PM that is otherwise working just fine, I see no reason to rush to the 17.

I doubt that he will open one over there, his franchise is in Texas. But the chain is expanding throughout the United States so im sure one may open there some day. His are in Texas, Beaumont, Lumberton, the Texas hill country (Marble falls, Burnet & Kerrville).

I'm with you, want to see the camera comparisons. So far I love the S25 Ultra.. I can control the cameras like I can on my Sony A7R V, so cool. I wish apple gave us users this much control.

I'm on Apple IUP so it's worth it to upgrade for me. If you pay it completely off in 2 years, sell it then , you'll only get $400-$500. So at most, $250 difference per year for me (1 steak dinner these days) to keep an iPhone pro max model for 2 years vs getting a new one yearly.

Keeping my 16 Pro. After watching the event today I don't see anything compelling enough to make me want to spend the money to upgrade, and that new camera bar is hideous. I'm usually on a 2 or 3 year upgrade cycle anyways.

Definitely Upgrading, I’m on the AT&T Next Anytime, last year I joined and only got $500 in credits for my trade and now I’ll jet the whole $1000 and bring my bill down another $14.

I’m on T-Mobile with Yearly Upgrade so I will be going from 16PM to 17PM. I am fairly neutral on the design of the phone and I’m a maximalist who loves loud colors so the orange is great for me!

Why is the camera module a full width bump? Why that darker bit below which looks like it’s got a MagSafe attached? Why do these things which add no value but look ****? Who demands this?

Design peaked at 12 imo.

Currently have the 16 pro max with 133 battery cycles, 100% health. I'll keep it until I decide if I want or need the 17 pro max.

I'm currently moving to Android, galaxy S25 ultra to be exact. Doing so for the cameras, they are so much better than iphone. Using expert raw, I can fully control the cameras manually & automatically. Adjust the ISO, shutter speed, & focus as i need and still maintain 200mp & 50mp image quality. I tried this on iphone using a 3rd party app & the 48mp dropped to 12mp, that's not helping me control my camera. Also apple will not allow greater than 1 seconds exposure time.

The 17 pro series only updated the telephoto camera, the 1x & .5x are still the same. I wonder how many iphone models apple will go through before upgrading them? I had an iPhone since the 3gs in 2009, moving to Samsung galaxy S25 Ultra is a nice chage.
So for now, I'll keep my 16 pro max and randomly use it alongside my two S25 Ultras.
What app ? I use Halide and when I set 48mp ProRAW it stays at this setting. Only telephoto is at 12mp.

Yes Apples flagship Pro and Pro Max models are excellent phones, my firsthand experience proves it. But where I used to "upgrade" yearly, I no longer will, that ship has sailed.

My iPhone 16 Pro Max is adequate for my needs yet disappointing for its shortcomings. With heavy use it gets warm which is unacceptable given Apple's engineering expertise.

Apple now claims they've incorporated better thermal management in the new 17 Pro Max, it will be interesting to see how effective that may be.

I'll give them a year to sort it out and upgrade to an iPhone 18 Pro Max if it’s truly improved.

The telephoto 5x camera is always 12mp.

I use the ProCamera by Moment app. If I adjust the ISO or shutter on that app, take a photo at 48mp (1x), the final image size is 12 megapixels. if I adjust the EV only, the image remains 48mp. I sent them an email regarding this, they replied & know of the issue, but it's out of their control, because apple Has too much control over their Camera. Halide app is the same. Use ProRaw, full manual mode, 12mp output. The Halide app points out that if manual mode is used, the image size is reduced to 12mp captures, this is applied to all cameras.

I’m not upgrading;) I keep my iPhone 16 Pro Max 512gb ;) battery 121 cycles since launch day, 100% health … I don’t like design, no huge improvement in the cameras mostly from ISP.. I’m waiting for space zoom from Apple (48mpix telephoto is nice upgrade but android competition have more ). Mostly I’m taking pictures than filming. Huge plus for vapour chamber and 12 GB ram but why not 16gb ram ? We all know to sell next iPhone… In Europe we get less battery capacity because of physical sim… Orange colour will fade away like purple (14 pro) or green (11 pro) why we can’t choose from 5-6 different pro colors ?

The base 17 seems like a great value prop. I have a 16 pro max and wife has a 15 plus. I’m considering selling both and buying two base 17. Not sure yet though. Looking to hear some opinions.

If I sell my 1 TB pro max and her 15 plus, I think we might almost break even with the upgrade or pay a very small amount.

You are right… I debt it will be new „feature” in the next iPhone or iOS

I’ll be upgrading, my GF needs a new phone so she will get my 16PM if she didn’t need a phone I would probably hold off this year and get the air 2 next year or maybe the fold. This is the year we get rid of the last lightning devices in our house.
