Why are there so many threads about size?

Anyways, coming from a 17" owner, it's not too big for me at all. I LOVE the extra screen real estate. When I snap pages in half or even in quarters, it's really nice to see more on each page. I do a lot of page snapping, so it works out really nicely for me. It's also all subjective whether a 17" is too big for you to carry around. I have an Incase Nylon Tech Brief messenger bag that was made for the 17", and it is perfect. It fits the 17" snuggly inside and there's plenty of room for other things such as books, notebooks, and so forth.

If you're at your desk a lot and don't want to connect to an external monitor, then the 17" is the way to go. If you're feeble and have a tough time carrying a notebook that is 1lb heavier than the 15", then I'd recommend going with the 15". Perhaps lose some weight to offset it? :p

The resolution is just fine. If you have eye problems, just raise the size of the text. If you have 20/20 vision (and also with glasses), then it'll be fine for you. I never understood why people were saying "The font is too tiny."

Now, would I say that the 13" is too small?... in terms of resolution. YES. The best resolution is either the 17" or the hi-res display on 15".

Page... snapping...?

how about 13 mbp

For sure, people are on the go more and more and I think maybe there's an increased desire to have more power on the go than a smart phone, netbook or iPad offer.

Ultraportable notebooks are in extreme high demand, always have been *but* the majority of people don't want to spend much money on them so computer manufacturers filled the gap with (high profit / low quality) netbooks.

I wish instead of netbooks companies were busy making quality 12/13" ultraportables.

13 mbp needs i5/i7/maybe the air will get ulv i5

For 17" owners do you all use messenger style bags? Im partial to backpacks and i haven't found a semi decent one that will take 17 inches. For that sole reason i vote 15".

I have the Booq Vyper XL and it does wonders. It is by far the most comfortable messenger bag/backpack that I own.

I think 17" is just too big. It's not the weight but the size. I think 13" is the perfect size but I needed the discrete graphics of the 15" so that's what I bought. Anything bigger renders the portability of a notebook useless.

yes. The whole 1.12 inch increase makes the 17 inch simply immobile. I'm going to demand a crane next time.

lol this forum is great.

You are forgetting that it weighs 6.5 pounds! What kind of freak can carry that kind of weight around in a well designed backpack or messenger bag?

Page... snapping...?

The BetterTouchTool app that will allow you to make pages either go half/half of the screen or even in quarters. So that means you can have your web browser taking half the screen while having itunes on the other half without having to manually adjust the size of both.

It's a MUST HAVE! I love this feature in Windows 7 and am glad that it's on SL because I use it a lot.

Is that sarcasm? I can't really tell.

A freak that is healthy and fit? normal? 1lb more vs. the 15" in a messenger bag is hardly noticeable... especially if you carry around books too.

Added: That WAS sarcasm! :)

1) i assumed that some were buying the 15 because it was the cheap entry level macbook pro and i thought many of them were students. i can see the 13 inch as the me too macbook
2) what do people say to you at starbucks about your mbp?

1) I see a LOT of Macbook Pros here at school, but I've only seen 2 or 3 15" models in my few years here. I've maybe seen 2 or 3 17" notebooks (any brand, never a MBP) in my entire time here. Even the people I know in visual/media arts have the 13" and use the Mac Pro lab to do their editing and such. Weird, I know. I've also only seen a couple 2010 MacBooks, but I suspect this will change in the new school year as those came out an awkward time to buy a computer. Unrelated, I've never seen anyone with an iPad on campus, which is weird because you could swear Apple sponsors my university.

2) People always kind of stare for a while and then come up and say "yours is like mine, but bigger! Didn't know they made others sizes", etc. Some people come up to me and talk about how heavy it must be. Then I pick it up and let them hold it (sometimes) and they're usually pretty surprised and how light it is. 100% of the time, when someone says something, they always mention how awesome the screen is.

However, one d-bag I know with a MacBook Air who is "writing a novel" all the time at the Starbucks I frequent with my buds always comes up and shows me how small computers have got, and tells me I should invest in a new one. The next time he does this I'm going to punch him in the soul.

You must have a dry sense of humor. The 17" is heavy enough to incorporate into a weight lifting workout.

I suppose Jobs and his clique of princes don't care about the weight given that they suck hundreds of millions of dollars every year out of the sweat of Foxconn workers, so they just hire an illegal immigrant to carry their laptop around.

6.5 founds is way too light for a weight lifting workout. Maybe for beginners ;) I use 15 pounds as the mininum for my weakest muscles ( my shoulders )

17 inch is fine to carry around and weight. If you're going to use it on planes, then maybe it's a bit too big.

holy cow check out that behemoth on the right. What is that next to it? An iPod? It's so tiny in comparison :D:D:D

there is not that much of a difference between 15 and 17 as between 17 and 15.

the air is so out dated. 2 gigs of ram, no glass track pad, still has a button, and has not had an update in forever. i would not consider an air. not sure how someone could say look how thin computers got between air and mbp. mbp is one of the thinner computers. also cant imagine the air is a very good seller at this point compared to mb/mbp.

I'm assuming that's the 13" vs. the 17", right?

My friend came over yesterday with his 13.3" PC notebook and WOW it looked so tiny. I've become really accustomed to the 17" screen that the 13.3" looks miniscule. We were watching Youtube stuff and it was definitely much better to watch on mine that it was on his.

Love the resolution. I was contemplating on upgrading my 15.4" to a WUXGA (1920x1200) panel. 6.6lbs isn't very heavy for a notebook, especially when compared to windows offerings.

Yeah definitely.

Some examples:

Sony Vaio EC = 7.3lbs
HP Envy 17 = 7.5lbs
Gateway P = 9.05lbs
Dell Studio 17 = 7.08lbs

Apple has the lightest and definitely thinnest 17".

Still too heavy for me. No, not really. I own a 17", and it's just fine for me, anything else would be small. Although, I read somewhere on a thread somewhere that sometimes, people choose their MBP size based on their height.

woah, wait a second. why are the flashing white sleep indicator thingamajigs on the left on these notebooks?

i thought they were on the right !

I just checked mine and for sure it's lit up on the right hand side. Hmm older model OR.................... clones? I've seen iphone clones for sure (English client actually and the clones were quite impressive), but never thought about Macbook Pros clones. Interesting.
