woah, wait a second. why are the flashing white sleep indicator thingamajigs on the left on these notebooks?

i thought they were on the right !

They're definitely not clones. These are actual MacBooks - my 17" and a coworker's 13". Took them at work, on the desk next to mine. I think it's the camera phone. The HTC HD2 takes photos mirrored for some reason. If I flip it horizontally in Preview they look normal and I believe that's how I took it - with the 17" on the left.

Rest of the set:

I saw those on Amazon. lol The 17" looks glorious. :) Do you know what background you're using?

Yeah, I posted those. I'm a top 500 reviewer over there so I review what I can.

Almost all of my backgrounds come from DeviantArt. The guy goes by the name of "grafixeye" and he has all sorts of professional photography as well as some fusion stuff like that one. He calls it his "A Dreamy World" series. Excellent stuff.

This thread almost tricked me into getting a 15" i5.

The 17" i5 is amazing. I know you've seen it said over and over and over again, but if you set your preferences and use it to it's fullest potential, you'll be very happy. As far as size, I wouldn't do any mobile blogging with it or anything, but it performs simple tasks amazingly well and complex tasks with ease.

I vote, just right. If they had a 19" MBP, then we could start talking.

I'd trade my 17" MBP for a 15" Hi-res in a heartbeat. I bought my 17" Anti-Glare before the 15" Hi-res anti-glare came out.

That's exactly what happened to me. 2 weeks after my 17" arrived they added the BTO matte on the 15". And I really wanted the matte version, I wouldn't buy a glossy screen.

anything bigger than a 17 would be too big.

17" is great! Probably will be my next purchase size. (Next revision?) It isn't heavy at all... (look at acer, 15" weighing 8 LBS )

I think the 15" is a bit too small. I'll probably upgrade to a 17" when Apple releases their Ivy Bridge MBP ( I don't think Apple will use Quad cores for the Sandy Bridge update )

I do carry it around all day though, and I have no problems with the 15". So perhaps I could go for a bigger model :p

I'm surprised at the number of threads asking these subjective questions.

I don't think the 17" is too big or too heavy, but that's me. I can totally understand why one would not want anything bigger than 13" or really not want to carry anything heavier than an 11" MBA.

I'm going with a 15" i7 because of price (the 17" i7 is just over the amount I want to spend, plus the 15" High Res Glossy is pretty sweet.)

Not for me. If apple decides to stop making a 17 inch, oh well. Bye Bye Apple....

I love mine in every way. I love a big screen.

I don't think it's too big. What I do think is too big is the 15" and 17" price tags lol. that's why I'll always stick to the 13" :(

I would really love a 17" but I could never justify the price. If I found one for ~$1500 refurbished on Apple I would buy it in a heartbeat ... but until then, the 15" inch is quite nice too :) ... (but until then:eek:), I'll just take my 13" MBP. Still love it.

I like my 13" a lot. I've toyed with maybe getting a 15" next, but I'm very comfortable with the portability of this 13 incher. So for me, yes, 17" is too big, unless it spends most of it's time on a desk, in which case, an iMac would be a better use of the money.

I had a 15" and then got a 17", the differences are not big. The 17" has a smaller bezel compared to the 15", so the 15" is bigger than the screen-size suggests.

15":

Height:
0.95 inch (2.41 cm)
Width:
14.35 inches (36.4 cm)
Depth:
9.82 inches (24.9 cm)
Weight:
5.6 pounds (2.54 kg)

17":

Height:
0.98 inch (2.50 cm) +0.09 cm
Width:
15.47 inches (39.3 cm) + 2.9 cm
Depth:
10.51 inches (26.7 cm) + 1.8 cm
Weight:
6.6 pounds (2.99 kg) + 0.45 kg

The differences between the 13" and the 15" are bigger (especially in relation, 0.5 kg on top of 2.0 kg is relatively more than 0.5 kg on top of 2.5 kg).

Concerning weight the 17" has one distinct advantage over the 15": weight is better distributed/balanced. On the 15" most of the weight is at the screen side, on the 17" the bigger battery makes up for the weight of the screen.

a 17" laptop is actually not that big, my sister is considered a "normal" user and she has a 17" where she brings to places and such and thinks its just fine.

i also have the 17" mbp but i use my pc more often so my mbp just sits next to me on idle so i dont move it often but 17" is actually small for me.
