Okay here are a few tips for everyone with slow syncing times. Reboot your iPhone. Try to limit your apps to the ones you need. I went through my Apps I downloaded and put a hacksaw to them. Everything is much more fluid and snappier.
So your resolution to the problem is to not use your phone for the reason it was purchased.

Sync only takes seconds for me... but the backup before it syncs literally takes an hour + on my phone. Until I disabled the auto backups that is. Now at least I can back up when I have time (at night? lol)

Even thou I NEVER got a one hour backup time. I disabled automatic syncing anyway. :D

Have to wait until an updated PwnageTool is released to mod this firmware and then "restore" it.

That's my solution. I don't need toys. Maybe you do. It's up to you really. ;) Another option would be to just get rid of automatic backing up all-together.

Exactly, just like achieving acceptable battery life: Disable the 3g, the location service, push mail, bluetooth, and all the other features you bought the phone for.

Enjoy!

!&@^%#$&@^#$%@&^#%$

Another 1.5 hours wasted.

Whew...after a failed update...I'm back up an running.

Took awhile due to having to restore and re-install all apps, but I'm good now.:D

Reception is about the same (but it was good to begin with) but things are definitely snappier...yyyyeeeeeeaaaaaahhhh!

Try putting some sizeable apps on it and then they won't be. Then you'll b*tching about it like the rest of us.

The only applications I have on my iPhone are Super Monkey Ball, Dizzy Bee, Enigmo, AIM, and Apple's remote application. It backs up less than a minute. :D

I'm still noticing the initial lag when starting the Contacts app that doesn't allow me to start scrolling through my contacts until 3 secs after I've opened it. Apps also don't retain their place after being updated, I still have to rearrange them every time I update an app.

Any word on whether or not NetShare works on 2.0.1?

Netshare still works. Some ppl who already downloaed + installed it claims it works. And I'm currently downloading it. Woot! I hate having out-of-date firmware. And btw, I have alot of apps, almost 20, and a few games, and my backups are about 5 minutes or so. Is this b/c I'm using some supercomputer or are you guys exaggerating? Anyway, Cheers!

I see no lag for me. Try rebooting (it always helps). Apps do not retain their original place but I asked Apple to fix this in the next release. This is an issue for those who have over 16 apps or more.

mine doesnt seem to work either and i have full service. also it probably doesnt belong in here but it might be in the update but doesnt anyone know how to make groups in contacts it seems u can view the groups but u cannot make them so it just has all groups. whats the deal? and ok my location finally worked took longer than usual tho

None of my apps would locate me. Did a hard reset (held down the home and power buttons until I got the apple). Appears to be back to normal.

OT - as for the contacts, try making the group in your address book (mac right?) or outlook (not sure how to do it) and it should sync up.....that is if you are using MobileMe and it is working at the moment.

Why must we get the whole software in a package, It does a "forever lasting backup",then it wipes the phone, then installs the firmware, then you have to do a restore which takes 1.5 hrs and then on top of all that then you have to sync it and wait another .5hr until your media is put back on it. Retarded......

Or having to click the "X"...

Except when you cancel a backup that has started it leaves the last backup unusable. So until you do complete a backup you won't have a usable backup.

I found out about this feature the hard way.

IPHONE 3G 16 GB Rogers Status 2.01 Firmware

I have provided my iphone type in the topic so that you can compare with the 1st gen phones.

- Update to 2.0.1 firmware flawless and only took a few minutes, after it was downloaded
- GPS , works without a hitch pinpoints my locations just fine
- Signal Level 4 bars at home, used to be 2 to 3
- Snappier UI
- Battery life, not sure, time will tell
- Volume, seems louder.
- Safari seems snappier
- No cracks on case as reported by some

My findings with 2.01

Safari does feel a little snappier, I don't think thats just because I read it here first, it feels more responsive to touch gestures.

Contacts: I still get delay on opening contacts. 3-4 seconds

Sms: I still get delay on opening Sms. 3 seconds.

Lagging typing: Not experienced it yet, but it was always fairly random when I did get it, and would have to hold home button to force quit the app, then renter and lag was gone.

Stability: Whilst typing this I was also browsing app store. The phone reset. That's never happened before. The phone then stayed on the apple screen, every minute or so the phone would do 2 quick vibrations, I assume this is some sort of error code. Did a force reset and it's back up and running.

I just have this gut feeling like there is some hidden trigger in this update that can kill apps with the flip of a button on Apples end. I have Netshare and I really don't want to loose it, but I'll update.
