Interestingly, my last backup took over an hour... then I ran it again manually without having even disconnected the iPhone, and it took < 4 minutes. I'm updating some apps now (new AOL IM, and Radio) then I'll backup again.

Something needs to change to trigger a backup, then it does a backup of everything, if nothing has changed then it won't back anything up. Using an app triggers it, not sure about other things (eg sms, notes, call history).

1. Same LOUSY Notes app.
2. Same LOUSY, USELESS, AWEFUL ringtones.
3. NO DOCUMENTS VIEWER!
4. NO MMS!

You folks at Apple are certainly LAZY! The phone is EXCEPTIONAL but certainly is DEVOID of BASIC SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED FEATURES! YOU CALL THIS A FRIGGIN UPDATE! BE SERIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought the update itself was pretty clear when it said it was only for 'Bug Fixes'.

Multiple copies of the app in the Mobile Applications folder isn't what's causing the problem with multiple update's showing for a single app. I'm getting that problem and I cleared out all the duplicate apps from the folder a day or so ago.

The app update feature hasn't worked properly from day one and it seems to be getting worse rather than better at the moment.

Although the current system of using duplicate apps is inconvenient (and will probably be replaced by a more efficient system), the duplicate apps are, in fact, *needed* by the system. It looks at the numbered apps and downloads the next one in the sequence.

So if you cleared yours, you can't claim that the update feature is "getting worse," because you have, in effect, broken it by removing them.

Just downloaded and installed the update. No problems and only took 10-15 minutes start to finish. Can't tell any difference on the phone yet. But it hasn't crashed so far, which is a good sign (I hope).... :)

The refund line is considerably shorter than the purchase line. Have a ball.

Come on. Really? Six full pages of posts and nothing regarding Edge reception?
Reception seems the same to me. The number of bars might occasionally be lower, but that might be my imagination (but, I think it really should be lower, as my gen-1 iPhone would seem to report service in areas where there really wasn't any).

Open note to all of the idiots expecting that an incremental x.x.1 release will solve all of their gripes with the software: get a life. This is a bug fix for some items but doesn't introduce new features worthy of a x.1 release.

If you don't like your iPhone there are plenty of alternatives available, of which I'm certain you may never get a firmware update.

This isn't 3.0 or even 2.1....it is 2.0.1. Just looking at that should tell you that it is just bug fixes and nothing else. It isn't like Steve Jobs got on the web and promised all this new S$@! and didn't deliver. It's a bug fix and with all of the bugs on my phone I happy with just that for now.

The update was 2.0.1, not 2.1.

I do have a question, though. If you wanted all of those features, why do you have an iPhone?

Apparently this guy doesn't understand what the iPhone 2.0 is. The beginning of a huge platform. All platforms take time to build and master perfectly. Give me a break, will you? :apple:

unable to update

update package downloaded very slowly, extracted normally and started backing up. theres's no X available, all i get is a pop-up window.
starts backing up, but there's no syncing message on the iphone, just the regular homepage.

after about 30 minutes, it stops, says the iphone disconected and it can't perform a back up. twice.

one hour lost, and i'm trying for a third time.

Can't seem to update from the last iPod Touch 2.0 Dev build (5A345?) to 2.0.1. Bought the iPod Touch 2.0 update from iTunes. No new update is showing up. Wasted $10 :( 2.0 Update file not showing up anywhere on my computer, seems like it's completely gone

My impressions of Firmware 2.0.1 (5B10B), application by application on a 3G 16GB iPhone:

NOTE: I have never had any issues with backing up taking forever, my iPhone experience has been very very smooth.

SMS
While typing, the keys raise and fall much more in tune with where your fingers are. Much nicer, more direct feeling. Delays from 2.0 are greatly reduced.
Addressing new SMSs is quicker.
Calendar
Overall quicker response. Application launches faster
Photos
Photos rotate soon after iPhone is tilted. Faster than 2.0
Camera
nothing new here
Youtube
transitions between the application and movies are smoother.
app launches faster.
movies load faster.
I believe there is a quality improvement of the videos.
Stocks
Application actually launched slow on first tap.
Maps
Application effects (little page curl) and address look ups are faster. Moving the map around seems to be the same.
Weather
same
Clock
same
Calculator
rotating seems to be slightly faster. not by much
Notes
nothing different
Settings
Didn't really poke around here much yet for the sake of time
iTunes store
Did all the album art always load when you searched? It does now.
App store
Bottom buttons seem to be more responsive
Phone
No delay when looking at contacts! Bottom buttons switch to that part of the app very quickly; no delay. Everything is snappier here.
Mail (I have 4 IMAP mailboxes in mail)
Everything is faster here. switching between accounts and mailboxes is fast now! Can scroll soon as you get into the desired mailbox or folder.
Safari
I don't notice much different here
iPod
Seems like there is still some 2.0 style delays here when you press the bottom buttons to switch between artist, video, etc...

Reception seems the same to me. The number of bars might occasionally be lower, but that might be my imagination (but, I think it really should be lower, as my gen-1 iPhone would seem to report service in areas where there really wasn't any).

my reception seems lower too.
from 3 bars to 2
If ATT's motto is more bars in more places, Apple's should now be less bars in more places
