My phone has now been connected for 30 min, and it's still just halfway through the backup. Is this taking a long time for anyone else? I had an error the first time, so I hope I didn't mess anything up.

Mine is also taking a very long time. It's been at least 30 minutes for me as well.

Yikes!

This has been quite the hassle. Starting around 7:30 pm I decided to update my firmware, almost 3 hrs later I'm still dealing with this.

After downloading the update my phone crashes and won't be recognized by my computer with error (-1619). After resetting the phone and resetting my computer, I try directly plugging the phone into the USB port instead of through my USB hub, that had previously been working fine. This seemed to help and so it goes on installing.

It then asks me to restore my phone, so I go ahead, it takes FOREVER to do, and it seems like it's done, but then it wants to do the restore AGAIN. As this is happening, my laptop refuses to let me use any other applications, it seems iTunes has monopolized everything. Finally in trying to close some windows, I force iTunes shut. When I restart iTunes, this time THANKFULLY, it doesn't want to restore my phone.

Now I just have to wait for it to re-sync all my videos and music to the phone, which will probably take at least 30 more mins. Not a fun or expected experience from Apple.

Another observation:

GPS took a very long time to locate me while on WiFi. Even then it was off by two blocks and took several more minutes to get one block closer.

Under edge, it was even worse. It showed me about six blocks away from where I am.

Yes, it works by just updating it through iTunes as I have just done successfully, however, it will remove Cydia and all of its apps and only keep the official App store apps.

Overall good upgrade on 2G Unlocked iPhone.

Guess that means it removes the T-Mobile Edge hack. Think I'll pass. Thanks for the response.

Still performing the mandatory backup...

Not sure if it has been mentioned, but is anyone else experiencing a possible crash/hang while completing the mandatory backup?

My backup has been parked on the following screen for the past 30-minutes (without any progress):

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks.

Contacts, though somewhat faster, are not as snappy / responsive as they were in 1.0

:(

I've been wondering about this since I've only had an iPhone (original, not 3g) with the 2.0 software. I didn't realize that this lag didn't exist with 1.0 until I read about it on these forums.

mine doesnt seem to work either and i have full service. also it probably doesnt belong in here but it might be in the update but doesnt anyone know how to make groups in contacts it seems u can view the groups but u cannot make them so it just has all groups. whats the deal? and ok my location finally worked took longer than usual tho

I believe the only way to create a new group is to do it in Address Book on your Mac (or respective app on your PC) or on MobileMe and sync.

I just updated and have to say i dont get the raves, 2.0.1 is still no where as stable as 1.1.4. Its still jerky to me. Granted its not as bad as 2.0 but i still think it needs some more polishing but in the meantime its stable enough for me to leave 1.1.4 behind after downgrading to it from the crap that was 2.0.

September cant get here fast enough, 2.1...here's looking at you

sync and backup much improved.

however, don't trust Restore just yet unless you want to wipe it clean...including any data associated with your apps (passwords, etc).

Error!

After upgrading to 2.0.1 .... itunes said that are new adjustments for my iphone... I selected to install them and then I get an error  it says that I should check my internet conection, but I do have my internet fine..

What's going on??

I think the contact delay which is small is due to it checking with push server that alot of us are apart of. Kind of like when you open mail app it check to make sure it didnt miss any mail.

-illusion

Ps. Down the road they might find a better way to fix that delay.

I'm not using MobileMe or push-anything, but I definitely experience a slight delay before I can scroll my contacts after the app is launched.

I guess I'm one of the lucky ones because I've never had any issues with the backups. The longest one I've had was like 3 minutes. I have 32 apps installed, too, so..

Downloading 2.0.1 took about 10 minutes for me, then installing (including the backup) took about 3 minutes.

The phone all together does seem faster, but I never had much of an issue with it before, other than a MobileSafari crash after installing 2.0.

This was done on 2G iPhone.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks.

mine stood like yours two times. then it just said the iphone had disconnected, and i had to start over. i'm on my third try, 90 minutes since i started this...

not very nice. and it's 3.30am where i live...

So I ran another backup after having installed the AIM 1.2 update and an update to AOL Radio. I checked a couple SMSs from Twitter, and opened Mobile Fotos (it downloaded some thumbnails). Nothing else.

Ready for the stats?

15 minutes
347 items
4.3 MEGABYTES of data.

Someone seriously tell me that isn't broken and I'll spew coffee all over my Macbook Pro 17" 4GB RAM 200GB 7200 HD 1920*1200 display. lol.

Anyone get errors when installing this update? I received a 2005 error during both of my phone updates. The phones would be in recovery mode until iTunes performed a restore and update.

Well what am I not doing right then??? I'm tellin' ya, it only takes about 10 seconds! (Mine is not Jailbroken, not sure if that makes a difference...)

You're not doing anything wrong. It's only backing up SMS, settings like WiFi access points, etc. Your mail messages, songs, movies and postcasts are not being backed up as they just need to be re-sync'd after a restore. :)

The 2.0.1 update hasn't fixed all of my bugs yet, Contacts still occasionally takes 3-4 seconds to load, and I've experienced a laggy SMS keyboard twice now (still less often than before.) The UI does seem snappier though, but it was depressing the first time I had the slow texting keyboard on 2.0.1.

Bricked my iphone

Unknown error 6. Can't restore (same error)... Sigh, I guess it's off to the apple store in the morning...:mad::mad::(
