Can anyone tell me if this update works on a 2.0 pwned unlocked/jailbroken 2g iPhone? Thanks.

Yes, it works by just updating it through iTunes as I have just done successfully, however, it will remove Cydia and all of its apps and only keep the official App store apps.

Overall good upgrade on 2G Unlocked iPhone.

No Delay While Scrolling Contacts! Yippee!

So immediately after you open contacts you can scroll? My update was fast and smooth and while contacts and SMS, etc. seem to load faster, there is still about a 2-3 second lag before I can scroll through my contacts.

That's because you can't pwn 2.0.1. So no, it doesn't work. :)

In essence, you can upgrade to "normal" 2.0.1 sure. However you can't pwn it so it's not jailbroken and thus you cannot add Cydia and install any non-Apple distributed apps.

Although the current system of using duplicate apps is inconvenient (and will probably be replaced by a more efficient system), the duplicate apps are, in fact, *needed* by the system. It looks at the numbered apps and downloads the next one in the sequence.

So if you cleared yours, you can't claim that the update feature is "getting worse," because you have, in effect, broken it by removing them.

No it doesn't.

The only reason the files in the apps folder have numbers at the end is because of duplicate file names. Each time it downloads a new version that has the same file name as an existing file it appends an incremented number to the end of the file name. Once you delete all the old versions the next one it downloads won't have a number on it.

So I haven't broken anything. Check your facts next time.

I think the contact delay which is small is due to it checking with push server that alot of us are apart of. Kind of like when you open mail app it check to make sure it didnt miss any mail.

-illusion

Ps. Down the road they might find a better way to fix that delay.

My phone has now been connected for 30 min, and it's still just halfway through the backup. Is this taking a long time for anyone else? I had an error the first time, so I hope I didn't mess anything up.

1st gen iPhone. Just did the update and now my "locate me" button in the maps app does not work.
My 1st gen still works. The old 1.1.4 firmware would often locate me many miles away, but the 2.0 firmwares have been scarily accurate.

1. Same LOUSY Notes app.
2. Same LOUSY, USELESS, AWEFUL ringtones.
3. NO DOCUMENTS VIEWER!
4. NO MMS!

You folks at Apple are certainly LAZY! The phone is EXCEPTIONAL but certainly is DEVOID of BASIC SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED FEATURES! YOU CALL THIS A FRIGGIN UPDATE! BE SERIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Someone needs a hug...

1) I find it relatively useful.
2) You can create all you want. Search through the forums for how...
3) MS Word, Excel, etc view FINE on mine.
4) Yep. Definitely not there. Never has been. Send an email.

It continues to astound me how folks seem to think that minor updates are great places to put in major functions.

Ugh. Unexpected error (-1) during the install. I have to perform a restore.

Did I say, "Ugh"????

Mine just got better after update I think. Safari seems stabler than before, keypad seems faster, no non-working apps so far.
I'm happy. :)

This is 100 percent correct. There is no need for any App file beyond the current one. All of the information the software needs to determine version is contained within the app file itself.

My update took a very long time, close to 1 hour. This was due mostly to the "Backing up". God only knows what it's backing up and where these "backups" are being stored. This is getting extremely tedious and annoying, hijacking my iPhone every time I plug into iTunes. I get the spinning beachball for a couple minutes before my iPhone even shows up. It reminds me of my windows days.

I haven't noticed any major improvements with 2.0.1.

I'm still waiting for the firmware update that allows you to turn off the auto accelerometer. I really don't care for it.

3G went from 1-2 bars (inside my house) to No Service. I'll have to try it put in other parts of town where I used to get 5 bars to see what I get now.

Edge is still 5 bars.

No more lag in Contacts or SMS.

Safari is "snappier."

I've had a quick play and I reckon they haven't changed or fixed anything. At this very moment all the iPhone dev team are sat browsing these forums and having a laugh at everyone who thinks they've found an improvement.

I'm not sure this is accurate... its supposed to be "push." That should nullify any need for it to check in with a server every time you load contacts.

My impressions of Firmware 2.0.1 (5B10B), application by application on a 3G 16GB iPhone:

NOTE: I have never had any issues with backing up taking forever, my iPhone experience has been very very smooth.

SMS
While typing, the keys raise and fall much more in tune with where your fingers are. Much nicer, more direct feeling. Delays from 2.0 are greatly reduced.
Addressing new SMSs is quicker.
Calendar
Overall quicker response. Application launches faster
Photos
Photos rotate soon after iPhone is tilted. Faster than 2.0
Camera
nothing new here
Youtube
transitions between the application and movies are smoother.
app launches faster.
movies load faster.
I believe there is a quality improvement of the videos.
Stocks
Application actually launched slow on first tap.
Maps
Application effects (little page curl) and address look ups are faster. Moving the map around seems to be the same.
Weather
same
Clock
same
Calculator
rotating seems to be slightly faster. not by much
Notes
nothing different
Settings
Didn't really poke around here much yet for the sake of time
iTunes store
Did all the album art always load when you searched? It does now.
App store
Bottom buttons seem to be more responsive
Phone
No delay when looking at contacts! Bottom buttons switch to that part of the app very quickly; no delay. Everything is snappier here.
Mail (I have 4 IMAP mailboxes in mail)
Everything is faster here. switching between accounts and mailboxes is fast now! Can scroll soon as you get into the desired mailbox or folder.
Safari
I don't notice much different here
iPod
Seems like there is still some 2.0 style delays here when you press the bottom buttons to switch between artist, video, etc...

Can't seem to update from the last iPod Touch 2.0 Dev build (5A345?) to 2.0.1. Bought the iPod Touch 2.0 update from iTunes. No new update is showing up. Wasted $10 :( 2.0 Update file not showing up anywhere on my computer, seems like it's completely gone. Please, any help would be awesome

Update my iPod touch to 2.0.1, still long backups... I´ll let this one finish, buy a song and update again...

My iPhone 3g doesn't seem to be working now that it is updated. Here's what I have done:

1. Updated to 2.0.1
2. Disconnected to iPhone to test out
3. Safari and all original apps worked fine
...here's the problem though...
4. Not one of my installed apps, like Google/AIM/Pandora will work. When I click on them they try to open and then shut back down. So, I deleted all the apps from iPhone manually (on the phone), then did a hard restart. After the restart they all work back on my phone again!!! So, I synced up to iTunes and deleted them in iTunes. After I got done syncing, some of the apps are still there AND not one of them will work still.

Any advice?!?! I'm new to this, be nice.

Thanks!

I'm traveling to another country right now.
Of course, ATT isn't available.
Can I still update my iPhone? Do I need ATT network to activate my phone?

3G->EDGE handoff without call drop!

I was reading online last week about people having their calls dropped when going from a 3G area to an EDGE-only area. I was just in a call and heard a bit of a studder but the call continued. After hanging up I realized that the phone was in EDGE. Looks like handoff improvements may have been made.
