From past experience I NEVER download and install all in one swoop. I always get screwed. Instead I simply download only. After that I sync up and install again. That works perfectly!!!

Installing Now

I'm currently downloading & installing the update. Hopefully everything will go smoothly.

While my experience with iPhone OS 2.0 has not been as bumpy as some others', I have experienced a few crashes and several performance issues. Hopefully, this 2.0.1 update will clear much of that up.

Apple probably rushed through the 2.0 update; in fact, it has probably been over a month (or at least around a month) since the OS went Gold Master; hypothetically, there should be many bug fixes and many performance improvements.

Try deleting the MISC folder.

I had problems with my camera not saving pictures. After I deleted the MISC folder and any other folders in the DCIM folder, everything was OK. To do this I used the demo version of phoneview http://www.ecamm.com/mac/phoneview/

I posted this fix at Apple's discussion board...it seems to have worked for others.

Ok, I did as you said and deleted the MISC folder...Photos App now OPENS...BUT the Camera App and "Wallpapers" settings screen still immediately crashes...what else can I delete?!

Does 2.0.1 fix the bluetooth / visual voicemail problem with some bluetooth headsets? For example, I have the Plantronics 925, and you can't listen to your visual voicemail messages through the headset. In firmware 1.0 - 1.1.4 you could. In the top right corner of the screen in visual voicemail there is a button that should read "audio". Tapping that button would allow you to choose between iPhone audio, speakerphone audio, and bluetooth audio.

In the 2.0 software, "audio" appears with these options with only a few bluetooth headsets (jawbone and apple included). However, with many more (motorola, plantronics, blue ant, etc.) bluetooth headsets these options are not available. Instead of seeing "audio" the button only reads "speaker" with no further options when tapped. It just toggles between the iPhone ear and speakerphone.

This is a major bug / programming error that I hope is corrected with this release. Please post if there is any information on this or if someone gets it working. Thanks.

I can't remember where, but I remember an Apple iphone dev. stating somewhere this was done on purpose...I think you're screwed!

I can confirm that this will not resolve your issue... a SIM card has nothing to do with signal reception.

Uh sort of. If your SIM is improperly registered in the AT&T database you'll have trouble connecting to some towers and it will appear that your getting "poor" reception.

Usually the solution above is to have AT&T swap out and reregister your SIM on the network.

Yeah, I think I read that too, but it doesn't make sense that they would leave that functionality available intentionally for some bluetooth devices and not others. I have confirmed that the Jawbone works with the new firmware, and of course, I believe the Apple BT does as well. It doesn't make sense that this would be intentional. I'm still holding out that this will get fixed.

backup speeds are only slightly better for me, when will this annoyance be part of the past for heavens sake!!

Well am I the only one that experienced no changes in the software?

Backups still take unusually long and I have to wait 4 seconds for the contacts app to fully load because I can't scroll when it first loads. Though that doesn't trouble me a lot. I'm just saying though because people are saying contacts are faster to load. And now when I'm typing this up on my iPhone the keyboard is still lagging. Is this happening to anyone?

Oh and when I started to play aurora feint it crashed on me and the phone restarted. -_-

The only good thing about the software I noticed is that when I play music and I'm on safari, it doesn't lag as much.

2.0.1 = No Cydia = No T-Zones = No Thanks. Am I wrong about this?

Yes, you are. It's not Apple's responsibility to make sure your phone works with unsupported software and networks. If you've hacked your iPhone in any way, just sit there quietly and wait for a new pwnage application to be released, like the rest of us. It shouldn't come as any surprise to you that your mods are not supported in the new release...they never have been. In time (probably a short time), they will be. But, until then, I doubt there's anyone here that cares to hear from you.

Ok here is what i have noticed with this update:

It is indeed "snappier" with Contacts and Safari loading pages a little quicker..

SMS seems much better

Backup was quicker for me.

Apps load faster

One thing i did notice is that embedded YouTube clips on websites are now "clickable" and you can now watch the videos.. I was not able to do that before.. Try going to a site like PerezHilton.com or Blabbermouth.net (both have an abundance of embedded clips on their sites) and see for yourself..

My Safari did crash once when i was on a site earlier.. Other then that everything is much better.

Notes on iPod Touch updating

After the download, the update really got borked. It never finished and made my Touch unusable. I had to put the iPod in DUF mode, go back to the 2.0 firmware, and then do a restore. After this, tried the update again, and now it works.

Perhaps I didn't have enough disk space the first time to unexpand everything? I did clear out some more disk space after I got warnings that my C: drive was getting filled.

You're question was not if you were right that cydia and tmobile were not supported. If you have to ask that question, you probably shouldn't be jailbreaking you iPhone in the first place. Your statement asked if you were right in saying that those things added up to "no thanks." This may be true for you, but not for most of the people who use the iPhone the way that it was intended. I personally use it unlocked as well (out of the country), but I don't see the need to post when updates temporarily disable the hacks.

Not sure if it has been mentioned, but is anyone else experiencing a possible crash/hang while completing the mandatory backup?

My backup has been parked on the following screen for the past 30-minutes (without any progress):

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks.

just a guess here, but try a "normal" iphone name, without the option-characters

my 2.0.1 report, 1st gen iphone- contacts from exchange: fast!!! location: fast and much more accurate! at my house, it used to give me a result 3 miles away. now it wobbles for a second and then snaps right onto my street in front of the house! maybe the Skyhook van drove by.

App Store?

Is anyone else experiencing problems with the app store on the phone? It's crashing every time I try to access an app, the spinning wheel, and...crash.

Wow, calm down. Yeah, I realize this about Apple. And I'm right about it then. If I install this update I will lose my T-Zones hack. That's all I was asking and couldn't seem to get a straight answer. You don't have to be rude.

So any word on the jailbroken/unlock front for this update? Does it brick anything?

lol i dont have the balls nor the absolute obsession to find out...
