Once it switched me of off of 3G, I still have the full EDGE reception that I did before.
Well this update is taking forever. It's my first time doing an iPhone update, but it seems like it is taking too long. How long do these usually take to install?
restore back up?
is it just me? after I updated to 2.0.1 it didn't ask me if I wanted to restore the back up? I remember it would ask after I updated firmware if I wanted to restore the phone from a back up and I would have to sync all my music/podcast etc. not complaining, just thought it was something different.

SUMMARY:
So, it appears there is a concensus that the overall phone seems "SNAPPIER!!!" and Safari seems "SNAPPIER!!!"
-HOWEVER, it appears that some people are finding improved 3G reception, and some people are finding decreased 3G reception. What could possibly account for this ????????????????????????????????

Updated my first gen iPhone. At least at home, my edge reception is the same as before. 3-4 bars.
Oh really? My iPod touch must have an identity crisis then because it just got the 2.0.1 update installed. Soon we'll start hearing from fan-bois that the iPod touch will not get the 2.0.1 update buecause it's just: (REPEAT WITH ME) "an iPod"

That my speaker is a tad louder, reception is great now! Used to have 2-3 bars on 3G at my house now have 4-5!
Contacts doesn't lag, and the SLOW keyboard is now fast!!!! I was so irritated when i was typing faster than the phone! I had to wait at least a minute for it to get back on track. My first gen did the same thing! NOW ITS FIXED THANKS APPLE!

Pretty new to macs and I understand that "unknown" probably isn't too helpful, but does anyone have any idea why I am getting this?

Yeah edge reception is still the same on my 1st generation phone. Now downloading 2.01 again for my 3G iPhone. It's taking a very long time to download this time because well, everyone in the world is downloading it now.
I got this, too. First do a complete Sync (don't update the software). Then with the phone still connected, run the update software. It should work (at least it did for me and I had the same error).
Just installed 2.01 then went to check for any app store updates, and, well... this 'aint right...
same here. also been like this for a couple of days...
iphone won't be here till tomorrow...but to update it you just plug it into your laptop (MBP for me) and go to itunes? or what do you do?

I noticed a faster boot time and faster launch times from my installed apps (my iPod is realy full, maximum number of applications...) and syncing/backup/restore is faster also.
Great update Apple. I guess the Apple Support guy I contacted last week was right when he wrote me about a coming update.

Correction: Everyone on chat websites around the world is updating now, but there are MILLIONS of everyday people that have absolutely no idea yet that an update is available.
Mine did that at first too. I restarted my iPhone and it worked perfectly. Hopefully the same works for you.
