No lag in contacts or SMS so far.
3G reception is the same at home (poor).
Backing up still taking forever.
Waiting for the ability the jailbreak again.
That is all.

Error 6 is normally because of the USB connector you are using. So if you aren't using the USB cord that came with the iPhone 3G, then I would suggest using that. If you are using the cord then I don;t know what it could be... Are you connecting through a USB hub? If so, then try a direct connection.

yeah i'm using the cord that came with the phone and it is plugged into my macbook ahhhhhhhh

The long backup is definitely not fixed. I was backing up for like 30 minutes and got a call and... yeah. Start over

Mine downloaded fine, but it has been "backing up" for about an hour now. This is ridiculous.

my iPhone 3G 16 Gig backs up in less than 1 minute and it only has 4 gig left, so 10 gig full.

I am not sure why there are so many people saying 1 to 2 hours!!!!!!

Is it that you all have a lot of Apps????
I have about 10 apps besides what came with the iPhone from the factory.

Weird.

Mine did that at first too. I restarted my iPhone and it worked perfectly. Hopefully the same works for you.

My phone did this as well, but restarting my iphone, and even my computer didn't do anything. After checking the Apple website I connected my iPhone directly to my USB port instead of into a USB Hub and that seems to be doing the trick as it recognized my phone again. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Having followed the guide thread about shortening backup times:
Total backup took ~100 seconds, 80 in the actual backing up stage, the rest the start up and wind down stages.

But then, I looked at the "3" updates going... RSS! And it was all going so well. No, wait - horrendous queues, O2 foulups, MobileMe nightmare.
I think 4 of every update isn't too bad afterall... Strange things is, iTunes is picking up 8 apps to update (and giving 4 copies each) the App Store on the phone is only seeing two.

I noticed that the contacts app loads faster, I was always experiencing a delay when opening it, after the update it's working much quicker.. I was never experiencing lag with sms so I don't notice anything different with it after the update..

Backups still taking forever

Unfortunately mine still takes about 20 minutes to backup. This is the main fix I was looking forward to.

So, it appears there is a concensus that the overall phone seems "SNAPPIER!!!" and Safari seems "SNAPPIER!!!"

-HOWEVER, it appears that some people are finding improved 3G reception, and some people are finding decreased 3G reception. What could possibly account for this ????????????????????????????????

I used to have 5 bars here in my house and now I'm lucky to be getting 3 bars. FYI This is an EDGE first gen iPhone.

I wonder if Apple is intentionally slowing down the first gen EDGE phones, and speeding up the new 3G phones ???????????:confused::):D:D:D:apple:

Safari thread priority fix?

After installing the update Safari seems to be significantly more responsive. The lag of the user interface is almost completely gone. The page load times are the same, the rendering is about as fast as before but most of the touch interface issues disappeared. Great job Apple!

Earlier there might have been some thread priority problems. Especially with lots of javascript stuff going on in the background Safari got very sluggish. In the update they probably increased the priority of the user interface thread.

This really wants me want to trow my iphone against the wall. Is there anyway I can downgrade my iphones 3g firmware to 1. something?

my 16gb black isnt having any trouble with the update (did it an hour ago)
and guess what!

copy and paste!!!!:D

jkjkjkjkjkjkjk i know thats mean

Anyone try putting this through the pwnage tool and restoring a phone with that firmware?

One issue I had in the original 2.0 for my iPod touch was when I was downloading an app through the App Store, and it starts downloading, the App Store locks up. In other words, whenever I download an app, I didn't even near the App Store, because that lead to an eventual reset. Hopefully 2.0.1 fixes that.;)

**** guys, I don't know what happened. I had netshare before updating iTunes to 7.7.1 and now its gone. I originally bought it on the phone and I'm mid backup. This is absolutely ridiculous. I'm going to be so pissed if I lost it!

This has resolved my issues with having appointments entered into the phone transferring to the host machine!

Thank you Apple!!

Finished now posting this with my iPhone tethered to my Macbook Air and yes Netshare is still working.

So from my last post to this one is how long it took to d/l and install and tether my iPhone to test it. So far so good.

Did you ever back it up to iTunes after you purchased it via the phone? if not, it's gone...

your back up time is proportional to how much your phone changed since the last time you backed it up. If you install or remove a bunch of apps it will take a while to back up. people saying their back up times are faster probably havent changed much on their phone since their last backup.
