I was hoping they'd fix the "third-party apps stop working" problem, so I could stop installing and deleting a free app to get them working again. To me, this is the most galling existing bug they have with the iPhone.

Oh well. Maybe next time.

I used to have this problem. To get it to go away, I had to restore the firmware on my iPhone and NOT restore the backup.

Well the end of my workday on day two is less than an hour away and I have yet to see anything that makes this update worth losing or even redoing (once they crack it) my jailbreak.

Looks like I'll be waiting for the next one!

can anyone disagree with this?? I am just not seeing this update as a big deal... could be wrong tho

No, can't really. This update is basically a negative update. It was designed to disable or subtract certain undesired features (from Apple's point-of-view) rather than improve or add features/functions.

read something about the keys not popping up in safari, "h" key still not properly working. when typing it pops up for the first h but not for any after that. anyone having this problem?

Is anyone else noticing a louder speaker output on a 3g iphone when playing through the ipod? It sounds like a 5db gain.

Can someone please let me/us know if Media Monkey will work on this firmware.

Also iPhone has never worked on my work PC with outlook 2003 (same for other colleages) so if anyone can tell about their sucess story it would be wonderful.
and yes i have searched and done like hmm LOTS of things to make it work from different forums and tips from many people that i have given up. Outlook 2007 work great though.

Has anyone else noticed the battery is lasting longer? Or did the update screw up the measuring. I've been using this thing all day and my power meter hasn't dropped.

Cut & Paste!

CUT & PASTE, STUPID (I mean, Apple)!

And while even cheap phones, including the ones from Sprint, have functional Turn-by-Turn Navigation, the iPhone offers lame Google maps! Yuhoo!

No more fuzzy pics?!! There shouldn't have been any in the first place!

Some people here get happy really easily....

I just reset the phone and my battery was almost dead. I hope it was just a glitch limited to my phone and not the whole update

Dude, they aren't going to change it back. Get over it. I happen to like seeing who texted me and what they said, it allows me to not have to actually go and look at the text if i don't need to! Lock your phone so if someone else picks it up, they can't see the text, keep it in your pocket, whatever. Sheesh, are you cheating on your wife or your significant other?

Here's a chill pill, actually have two.

Like seeing the name and a preview of who and what they texted you? Oh look at that! There's an option for that, actually there are several!

Want just the name but no message? Hey! Looky, an option for that too!

Want no name and no preview? No! You CANNOT HAVE THAT! What are you? Cheating on your wife? Balancing some hookers, girlfriends AND a wife? Sicko...

Hope you don't get what you're looking for in the next update :)

I went ahead and updated, despite my reservations. To my surprise, the one app that I had problems with, with the built in browser, seems to be working great now. It is the first time I have been able to access more than one or two articles before it crashed. So far I haven't had any at all after browsing 10-15 articles. Apart from that, I'm not noticing anything new. I was hoping that they might sneak in streetview into the maps app, since it was rumored that the reason they didn't put it in with the last update was that they were having problems with the battery life. I thought they may have fixed it by now, but no such luck.

I still get that bug where you open & quit an app too quickly, and you see half the icons from the next desktop just frozen.

Safari has definitely improved. And OMG! No more lagging when scrolling through photos! Sweet. :D

The day people stop complaining about Apple products is the day Apple stops improving their products.

You can't seriously believe that? You think competitors, continued sales... nothing but people complaining is an incentive to improve a product?

Ok.

I must admit, i'm a little surprised that this update didn't add support for the volume control on the Apple in-ear headphones.

LOL @ this update. Really? Safari stability improvement? No useful features? I really hope someone challenges the iPhone soon so they will start adding things that actually make it worth updating.

If you use Safari at all frequently, say on the full eBay site, you'll appreciate the improved stability a lot. Well worth updating for me....

I've only owned my phone for about four months and I've only needed cut-and-paste 3 times. Maybe it's because most uses for cut-and-paste are already built into the phone.

For me, with a mobile device when creating notes or composing emails it is easier to quickly type things out roughly and then refine them afterwards, rather than sitting and thinking things through which is not so easy when out and about. So this means wanting to move blocks of text around to put thoughts into a coherent order.

I use YouNote, and to properly format notes I have to backup them up, decompress the zip and edit the text file on my MacBook, rezip the backup, then restore from it. All because the only way around it on the iPhone is to scroll down, read, scroll up, retype, scroll down, delete.

Also a peripheral part of cut and paste is the ability to delete chunks of text. Replying to an email or on a forum you have to quote everything or nothing, because it is so much hassle deleting whole lines of text. You have to press and hold delete which eventually goes from deleting characters and words, but when you release your finger you see it continue and delete the part you wanted to keep.

Obviously different people will have different needs, but there is still a lot of value for some of us in copy and paste. Just like I have no need at all for the Stocks application.

Michael.

Same experience here...I was about to celebrate my mammoth battery life improvement :(

I powered off and back on..only to be hit almost immediately by the 20% warning...hopefully the battery indicator code is not b0rked.

And some people complain about everything. Just sayin'.

Nope, not about everything.

Only about basic features available on "free" cellphones, which we just can't get on our iPhones. Like CUT & PASTE, or Turn-by-Turn Navigation. Or Landscape keyboard for texting....

When a brick falls on some people's head, they thank their God for being merciful and not killing them....

Apple said this update was a bug fixer, not a feature adder. iPhone 3.0 should be around the corner. Be patient

Not just see it. The whiners need to see it, approve it, modify priorities and change it where necessary.

hahaha so true. Even then, there will still be something to whine about. After a keynote, around the forums it's as if there was some sort of major tragedy.
