hahaha so true. Even then, there will still be something to whine about. After a keynote, around the forums it's as if there was some sort of major tragedy.

Little meaningful progress? What in God's name are you talking about?

Google Street View, Mass Transit/Walking Directions, Downloading podcasts (and now entire songs) over the air, making the App Store/apps much more stable, etc.

What do people want to see? Are some of you folks that obsessed with MMS?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5H11 Safari/525.20)

Apple said this update was a bug fixer, not a feature adder. iPhone 3.0 should be around the corner. Be patient

I think people's patience is just about run out after 18 months of Apple making little meaningful progress with the iPhone firmware.

3.0 is still six months away in all likelihood, and might well deliver nothing at all.

No update for me???

My iPhone is still on 2.2 and while checking updates on iTunes it tels me i am up to date???
Any idea?

So after a day of browning sites that guarantees a crash, you know like Gizmodo, Safari has not crashed once. Even when zooming in and out. So for this update, thumbs up for the Safari bug fixes. It's about time that Safari finally got its much needed stability fix. :)

I'm downloading it now. I really really hope that your right :)

Oh .... while its downloading, I'm feeling Snappier!!! That has to be a good thing :D

This place kind of reminds me of a large family of rich children. One Christmas, the parents spend considerable amounts and really give good gifts. Thereafter, the children get upset and pout when the parents are struggling with the slowing of the economy or their bonus wasn't as big.

The people in this forum really need to take a step back and look at how good we have it. How many other smartphone providers offer upgrades of any kind? Bug fixes offered for free over the internet? Guaranteed updates in the future? Take what's given to you and be grateful, for s**ts sake.

On the other hand, I will admit that the other phone providers aren't leaving basic features out that warrant people begging for things that should be there in the first place. And other phone providers aren't announcing release dates for certain features and then leaving their customers in the dark when said date rolls by with no mention of that feature and five months later people are wondering if that provider developed alzheimers and completely forgot they had even mentioned it.

But that kind of goes without saying...

I agree to some extent, but what if you woke up one Christmas morning and the doors on your favorite Tonka truck no longer opened like they were able to do the day before? :(

Spot on. It's like reading what a bunch of spoiled brats think ... oh wait. :p

I'd be livid. But how does that compare to our situation? Our phone has never done these things everybody is constantly complaining about.

Answering to myself "hmmm no idea...i restarted my MBP but still itunes tells me that 2.2 is the latest update available...where is my 2.2.1 sdk?"

I'd be livid. But how does that compare to our situation? Our phone has never done these things everybody is constantly complaining about.

I'm just talking about this latest update that has blocked people's ability to have Emoji on their phone. They had a potential feature one moment, now they don't.

The 2.2.1 sdk is through the Developer connection website, not iTunes. Do you mean firmware update.

Thanks for the answer...what is the difference between an update on iTunes and one from the develpoer connection website (DCW)? Does it mean the 2.2.1 is a beta version or trial? Given the minor update why would it be necessary to update my iphone through DCW? Why is the update not avaiable through itunes?

I guess you wern't around for the 1.1.1/1.1.2/1.1.3 updates, each of which added funcionality...1.1.3 in particular added massive functionality.

It has been a while since a proper update maybe they have hit a wall with the hardware. So far since 2.0 its mostly been bug fixes, 2.1 was marketed as one giant fix to the cluster**** that was 2.0

I stand corrected, I lose track of what number updates gave what. The main thing I got out of 1.1.3 aside from moving icons was the location triangulation, which became irrelevant to those who bought an iPhone 3G and perhaps that is why I forgot about it adding a lot.

Nope, not about everything.

Only about basic features available on "free" cellphones, which we just can't get on our iPhones. Like CUT & PASTE, or Turn-by-Turn Navigation. Or Landscape keyboard for texting....

When a brick falls on some people's head, they thank their God for being merciful and not killing them....

I really love the iphone but i totally agree with you here!
cut&paste and Turn-by-Turn Navigation AND A2DP+File transfer for Bluetooth are things you come to EXPECT from any modern phone these dayes.

Counting with iPhone 2G and now 3G its ridiculous they still have not added these basic items.

I mean we are not talking about a company of 5 people and considering what they deliver in each update i see it as a joke!

I consider myself a fanboy and the truth is no matter how much i like the iphone the fact remains that Apple is lazy and/or ignorant to its users needs (even though not everyone need the features i mentioned they are the most basic ones you come to expect more or less)

I am still running 2.1 on my jailbroken phone, I want to update but I have some important videos on cyrecorder that I can't for the life of me get off my phone and onto my comp :( I am afraid I will be stuck on 2.1 forever.

I think people's patience is just about run out...

I must have missed the announcement that forces people to keep their iPhone. Perhaps these people whose 'patience is just about run out' should go buy a new phone. That'll teach Apple and ATT!

Currently I have the iP3g.

Well, when my contract is done, 2010, I'm finish with the iPhone. At the rate Apple is developing the OS, Core Apps and integration, Palm has leapfrogged them already right of the gate. I don't expect Apple to catch up in 6 months.

Palm and maybe some others will have a robust enough App store by then. iTunes music being DRM free soon, by then I can load it on the Palm Pre.

Maybe the iPhone doesn't have copy and paste and MMS and video recording and the list goes on, but even WITHOUT those things, I still think the iPhone is the best phone out there right now. Think about all the people we hear about that tried to switch to the Instinct, the Bold, the Storm and then switched BACK to the iPhone.

By the way... things I don't want on the iPhone are:

Flash
MMS
Video Recording

Things I do want on the iPhone
BlueTooth file transfer and Audio
Copy and Paste
Text Forwarding
Landscape Texting/Emailing
Push notifications

I wanted to add... what's with people saying that 2.2.1 broke Emoji? I still have it... what are they talking about?

Just did the update and had zero issues....as always....knock on wood!

I have had one Safari crash since I updated to 2.2....so I'm not sure what the new update is stabilizing....buy what the hey!

Steve

It doesn't. It just breaks the ability to enable them. If you already enabled them before the "update," you're golden.

I must have missed the announcement that forces people to keep their iPhone. Perhaps these people whose 'patience is just about run out' should go buy a new phone. That'll teach Apple and ATT!

That's great thinking and all, but there's these things called contracts....

I generally agree with your thinking, but let's be realistic. The Pre's not even out yet and the iPhone is arguably the best phone on the market right now.
