Maybe the iPhone doesn't have copy and paste and MMS and video recording and the list goes on, but even WITHOUT those things, I still think the iPhone is the best phone out there right now. Think about all the people we hear about that tried to switch to the Instinct, the Bold, the Storm and then switched BACK to the iPhone.

By the way... things I don't want on the iPhone are:

Flash
MMS
Video Recording

Things I do want on the iPhone
BlueTooth file transfer and Audio
Copy and Paste
Text Forwarding
Landscape Texting/Emailing
Push notifications

Why would you NOT want these. Just so others can remain unsatisfied? How does it hurt YOU to have these features? I will never understand the mentality of people not wanting added features..

Why oh why did I update? I really want emoji....

Does anyone know another way to get the emoji keyboard? I've been using the old way forever, and it's just not slick enough.

I spent all afternoon trying to restore the phone to an older firmware with no success (of course).

And last question: Does anyone know the difference between the DFU mode where your phone displays the iTunes icon with a USB cable and the DFU mode where the screen of the phone is completely off?

So let me get this straight. There are people whining STILL about MMS, video recording, a2dp, bluetooth file transfer, landscape SMS/email, and copy/paste? Did any of you that are complaining read a single review or browse the specs prior to buying the iphone? You do realize you had a number of choices of phones and carriers so don't use that contract bull***** excuse. The only legitimate gripe I can understand is push because apple actually mentioned that it would be an upcoming feature. Even then, if push was so important, wouldn't waiting to see how it was implemented be the smart thing to do? No, it really doesn't matter if a free phone can do something the iphone can't. It was well know what the iphone is programmed to do and what it isn't so basically if you bought the iphone expecting something that wasn't already available or promised explicitly by Apple you're an absolute moron. Really, how could you be so stupid as to buy something that doesn't offer a feature nor does the manufacturer ever mention the feature and then complain about it like it was owed to you? Just buy a different phone!

Again, I understand the grumblings about the promised push, that was one thing Apple actually did tell people to expect.

Thats BS, considering the fact that pretty much every reviewer and even some Apple store employees will tell you "it doesn't have *insert feature here* but is probably gonna be added in a future software update. Even steve/Apple have touted the use of software updates to add functionality to the phone

No offense but your criticism is utter nonsense

I have never seen a statement from Apple saying "it will be in a future update". The closest would be about copy'n'paste where an Apple official said "its on the list, but its not near the top of priorities". Excluding "push" of course.

Ok let me clarify. First off you misquoted me i said "...probably gonna be..." not "....will..." and second i meant Apple store employees not Apple execs. i.e. subtle difference and subtle persuasion

How strange:

I downloaded the update earlier today knowing I wouldn't have internet later but didn't install it then because I didn't have time. Naturally, I thought I could just plug in later and simply finish the update. But when I tried to install the update afterwards (with no internet connection), I got an error saying that iTunes could not connect to the update server. I thought it was strange but just figured that I didn't finish the download before I closed my computer. So when I finally got an internet connection, I clicked update and the software began to extract without any additional downloading. So I did finish the download but just wasn't able to install without a connection.

Why can I not update my iPhone without being connected to Apple? In retrospect, I should have disconnected during the update just to see what would have happened.
Anyone else seen or done anything like this?

It was recently made "law" (or the law removed, whichever way you want to look at it) that shops and the like are no longer forced to sell goods in metric units - they can sell in imperial again should they want to.

That's incorrect AFAIK. Here is the relevant part from the wikipedia article on imperial units:
Metric price signs may currently be accompanied by imperial price signs (known as supplementary indicators) provided that the imperial signs are no larger and no more prominent than the official metric ones. The EU's deadline of December 31, 2009 to enforce metric-only labels and ban any supplementary indicators (imperial measurements) on goods after the deadline has been abolished. On May 9, 2007 the European Commission agreed to allow supplementary indications alongside the statutory metric indications beyond 2009.

I would imagine when you ask iTunes to update it would still first try to check what the latest version is. It has no way of knowing whether the version already downloaded has been superseded or pulled back otherwise.

That's incorrect AFAIK. Here is the relevant part from the wikipedia article on imperial units:

That relates to 2007/0187/COD which is currently going through the European Parliament and amends the earlier directive 80/181/EEC to, amongst other things, scrap the deadline and requirement for the elimination of imperial measurements on packaging, and scrap the ending of the UK and Ireland's exemption on selling certain goods in imperial units.

A directive is not a law though, the national governments of members states are required to pass laws to enact directives, and so the effect would be for the UK that a law would not need to be implemented rather than one being scrapped.

It is also important to remember that the rules effectively only really apply to labelling anyway. You can sell 12oz cans of beans, you just need to label them 340g

Although has said before, none of it has absolutely no bearing on Apple as there is no law on how you measure distances. You can say something is 6 miles, 6km, or 6 football pitches away, all are perfectly acceptable as far as the law is concerned.

I am not sure whether it was available in 2.2 but one thing I noticed after upgrading is that the likes of Manx is offered as a location. An unofficial language spoken by around 1,600 people, of which only a few hundred can do so at a conversational level. It is an utterly bizarre sense of priorities from Apple to ignore the majority of Britons who use miles while giving a concession to a tiny percentage of people who speaking English anyway allowing them to see dates written in a different language. Adding separate UK (Imperial) and UK (metric) settings should really not be that difficult to implement.

I have emoji still. I used a nice hack - buy that software and then fiddle with it. Oh yes.

I can't put into words how annoying the response 'you shouldnt have bought the iPhone then' or 'research before you buy'. I don't know about you but I've never owned a product that did everything I want.

People buy the iPhone for what it does best, and thats the UI and such. I think it's a completely legitimate to complain about features that no other phone manufacturer has left out since these technologies were first introduced. MMS, text forwarding and other features are literally on every other phone being manufactured this day and age and there's absolutely no reason for them to be missing.

I'm sure a vast majority of people buying the iPhone knew/know these features are not yet implemented but they decide to buy anyways. That doesn't mean they don't have the right to complain.

As someone posted earlier, if no one complained, products would never improve.

Exactly! finally someone who understand it. I mean we are all aware of what we are buying and i think most of us (atleast me) are very happy with iPhone but still that is no excuse why we should not have other good and useful features available out there. And just as you say if we dont complain we will never see improvment! So dont fall in line blindly because its a apple product please even if they do great no awesome products sometimes they are arrogant to the customers and their needs.
Btw why do you think DRM protected music was removed from iTunes!

Adding separate UK (Imperial) and UK (metric) settings should really not be that difficult to implement.

The problem is that as a young person in the UK, I have been brought up with metric units, with the exception of miles. So really, I need a metric with miles option.

As for the metric VS imperial debate. Metric makes far more sense. Those who say otherwise, tend to be older people that just aren't used to it. Also, is it not better to be able to teach people a system that is the same the world over, so if they need to work abroad, are simply travelling or even moving to another country, they don't need to decipher a new system of measures?

When your phone displays the iTunes logo, you are actually in recovery mode, not DFU mode. DFU mode your screen is completely black.
I downgraded to 2.2 from 2.2.1 via DFU successfully last night. Although it was on a 2G...

I would agree with that, and I'm 35 (so not exactly "young"). I have no idea at all how many ounces and in a pound, how many pounds are in a stone, how many yards are in a mile etc.

When I started school in 1978 I was taught the metric system, nothing else. Anyone my age or younger (which is probably more than half the population now) has no idea what the imperial system is all about, so those who complain about it need to bear that in mind.
