Mainly HALiON & Battery but sometimes use Virtual Guitarist and Reason.

I wouldn't need 60 instances playing all at the same time, but at present do use typically 15 - 30. It's better to spread a piece over more tracks - for example putting something that perhaps plays one note during the whole piece in it's own track.

***ACTUALLY***....
Chip makers cheat a bit when it comes to their prefixes. While the link that you included accurately describes storage, it doesn't precisely describe processor speed.

1MB is 1024Kb. Most folks know that.

But 1Ghz is simply 1000Mhz. You lose the extra "24" that you get with the disk storage analogy. (This should make sense to everyone because processor speeds are going to be some multiplier of bus speeds.)

Re: Re: Re: Re: Daytona 500; speed.

Sounds cool. I'm a Reaktor/Logic user myself, planning on Dual G5 2.? upgrade in April. As much as I use VSTis, I still love having a selection of keyboards and modules to work with.

1 ghz is 1000 mhz :p

Oops, stupid error by me. Now corrected in the original post.

Thanks for catching my brain fart. :)

I want to compose film scores and soundtracks with GB, is it possible?

Im not too into the loops thingy, but I'd like some violins and trumpets, harps, etc and multiply them by like 50 so they sound like an orchestra. That would be cool if GB could do this.

I'd also like to create mood tracks for my films... which would be ubercool.

;) Yeah, talk about bait and switch. Guess people need to jabber until tomorrow even though they don't have anything to say about the G5.

As for me, I'm already pricing out new systems (in my dreams)!

Man I'm so ready for tomorrow...I've sold tons of stuff (car audio, random electronics, lol) on eBay & now I've got the cash to drop on a new top-of-the-line G5 that I so hope comes out tomorrow. A Dual 2.6Ghz (or more!) G5 would be too sweet :D

I too, am very ready for tomorrow. I've sold speakers, mp3 players, other electronics, and tons of other crap. I've also got JBL Invaders and a Revolution 7.1 Sound Card ready to be set up. Plus a new 17 inch LCD is on the way.:D

Why tomorrow? Apple's 20th isn't until the the 24th although most likely on the 26th or the 27th? But I haven't been kept in the loop for these sorts of things so if someone could fill me in.....

Heh, just read a couple of the 9 pages of posts here and you'll understand ;)

Basically we're expecting speed-bumped G5s tomorrow; the "20th Anniversary" thing will probably be something completely different and have nothing to do w/ the much needed speed updates to the G5 Tower lineup.

If these speed updates don't come tomorrow, they should certainly come by the SuperBowl, or else Apple is definitely falling behind again w/ updates.

Man you guys! Don't get your expectation too high! You know how Apple Rumors are...you might get your heart broken. Remember how long it took for Aluminum 15inch powerbooks to come out?

Take it easy.

What, are you jealous? :D

No ProTools here, just lots o' good clean MOTU fun. (PCI-324 based setup w/ U2W SCSI). I can get 70-80 tracks at 44.1/24bit without too much of a proc hit. GUI gets a little chuggy, but the rig seems solid.

The point is tho, by the time I slap on some VI's and/or reverb plugs, my rig slows to a literal crawl. Ergo, I need every last tasty morsel of processor juice I can get my little paws on.

I'll take the dual 3GHz, please. :D

You tell one fib about where you went to school and the whole world starts tracking your movements... :)

Good to see you too. This place is huge, which is why I don't post very much...but here's hoping for new G5s this month!

at what time to we give up the ghost?

well, today is/was supposed to be the day (unless you actually believe apple would squander the publicity value of such an announcement by doing it on the weekend for sentimental reasons). what time do these things normally take place? I guess if it isn't before noon PST it's not going to happen at all, is it?

Somehow you could forsee that it would not have happend today

cause the anniversary is still in front of us, and not behind us.

we will need to wait until monday or tuesday next week.

(whats the reason to release information on tuesday not on monday?)

Since AMD and IBM are working raather closley with each other in their SOI process, I wounder if We can expect to see jumps in the AMD64's clock speed arround the time of the next G5 speed bump.
Or even 90nm AMD64's/Opterons
