Maybe I am just sentimental but I like the older displays better. Never was a huge fan of the aluminum look, thats why I went for the iMac 17" instead of a low end PowerMac with display.

me too! Those "old" displays are so beautiful, I just stare and stare. I finally got to the point where I was able to by myself one, and they come out with new ones. I think the aluminum ones look kinda "PCish" and more like all the other lcd monitors/flat panel TVs out there. I'm getting one of the new 20" ones anyway -- the price of the old one hasn't dropped enough or else I would get one of those. It's only about $100 cheaper which is the same price as the new one with my edu discount. Sigh.

They had one of the new Cinema Display monitors only on Tuesday. So sadly it was gone when I visited on Wednesday and Thursday. The Apple guy said that they had specific instructions, only available for the one day.

When I visited my local Apple Store last evening, they didn't have any of the new displays. They said that they expect some by the first of August.

WOW

I am sitting here in front of the beautiful glow of a 23 inch Cinema HD display...and its pixel perfect in every way. Sooooooo sexy! Its really just uber-sleek.

Saw the 23 incher at Short Pump

Hey all, i just wanted to let you know that they have the 23" displays at the Short Pump Apple Store, Richmond, VA. And let me tell you, they are AMAZING! It used to be the case that the 20" looked far better, and I had decided that I would buy one as soon as they updated the line. But now, the 23" makes the 20" look like crap (well not crap, but a little to dark anyway). I was completely blown away! Also, i can confirm the "yellower" color of the new panels - which is great because the cause of that yellow cast is actually the native white point of the displays - now 6500k, perfect for digital photography and color-intensive tasks! Luckily for me, my 17" Mitsubishi CRT is crapping out on me, so I am in the market for a new display. Now if I can only find $1800 (edu discount).

Pictures

I have sent my pictures to iDave. He will be posting them whenever he gets around to it...it doesn't get much sweeter than this...ok maybe 7 inches sweeter :)

Oops, I thought BigEvan23 was going to post them. Don't want to keep the people waiting. Here are a couple of teasers.

What is the thing in the bottom right hand corner? I'd assume it was the power-on light, but it doesn't look lit in any of the photos I've seen yet.

SO jealous

I have to wait until Auf 11th (so says Stevie J) for my "NOW SHIPPING" 23 inch! - it would really be sad to get the dual 2.5 with 6800 card (July 30th - says Stevie) and have NO monitor to use - last I heard that card was dual dual DVI - no VGA on that bad boy. My 17in LCD is not DVI and of course all of my extra CRTs are not either - maybe I can dug up an adapter.... sigh.

Patients is supposed to be the virtue of a jedi - guess I'm going to the Dark Side these days....  ;) :p

Irie Jedi!

Specs

Don't the old Formac screens all have better specs than these new Apple ones? The new screens do look noticeably brighter than the old.
I have to agree with the guy that said the old Apple displays were a more attractive design. When they show up here I'll see if they pass the GF test. (Whether my girlfriend can pick one out from a distance when they are mixed up with all the PC products)

Off thread but just another quickie; In the US, can students/teachers buy ANY Apple product with education discount?

Thanks

oh god! we received the first 20" display at work today! it looks so tiny compared to the EOL'd 20"er!! it's soooooo nice.

can't wait till we get one of those 30"s! it will be HUGE! hmm gonna try Medal of Honor with that one............ :D

I know it's early, but can someone give an indication of the level of ghosting on the 20 and 23 inchers?

Keep the reports coming folks... :)

Yes, that's what I'd like to know. Someone please fire up a FPS and let us know, along with what video card you are using please!

Just got a ship date of 7/23 from MacConnection. I can wait a week to save $100.

When did you go? That post I made was FROM the Short Pump Apple Store! :p

Anyway, one cool feature is the side of the display has controlls like the iPod, they are touch sensative, and they look just like the iPod front, white and glossy.... :D

More pics of the silver bullet

Here are the rest of my pics! Thanks to iDave for hosting them.

AHHH I WANT ONE!

Geezz I want one. Anyone have any FPS comments?

Anyone get the 20" to work on a PC? I can't seem to find a card that supports native resolution.

sorry, i haven't read the entire thread, but will a 12" powerbook even be able to run these monitors. will the geforce 5200go with 32mb/64mb have enough juice to get to the native resolutions of the 20" or 23" properly?

If it has DVI it will run the new displays.

Monitors have arrived at Aspen Grove in Colorado. I am going after work to see them! They have 1 23" in stock, but nothing else.

But someone should post their expiriences with response time, how do things look? Is the 16ms apple claimed really true?

i went on thursday in the afternoon (that would be july 15). I was talking to someone who worked there and they said that they had just gotten them in. I assume the previous day. But they have three of them there now, so if you get a chance, I highly recommend taking a gander. When I was there, they still didnt have any 20" though.

As for the ghosting, one of the displays was running X-Men on DVD, and I noticed that it looked very smooth, but if anyone knows a really good way to check the FPS more accurately, let me know - i will be back up there pretty soon. I would be interested in knowing the actual performance, because 14ms is what Apple says, but that sounds too good to be true.

nice pictures by the way.
