i went on thursday in the afternoon (that would be july 15). I was talking to someone who worked there and they said that they had just gotten them in. I assume the previous day. But they have three of them there now, so if you get a chance, I highly recommend taking a gander. When I was there, they still didnt have any 20" though.

As for the ghosting, one of the displays was running X-Men on DVD, and I noticed that it looked very smooth, but if anyone knows a really good way to check the FPS more accurately, let me know - i will be back up there pretty soon. I would be interested in knowing the actual performance, because 14ms is what Apple says, but that sounds too good to be true.

nice pictures by the way.

Cool, I went right before closing, and I rember seeing an X-Men DVD case ontop of the PM after the first white wall. Those are slick little puppies there.

Can a new owner confirm that the thing in the right front lower corner is a power light? It doesn't look lit in photos.

The only thing that surprised me as compared to the WWDC photos is that I didn't realize the sides were white. In the WWDC photos the sides looked alu like the rest. It's like a tech ice cream sandwich effect. Yum.

Maybe this answers the white keyboard question...now the white keyboard is tied into the display design so it isn't going anywhere soon?

The little white dot in the lower right hand corner is the sleep light, it fades bright to dim just like the previous models of the display. It only turns on when it's asleep, otherwise it's off.

FedEx Ground...

I'm here on the east coast, and my 20" was sent on tuesday or wednesday, when they were all shipped out. Now I've checked FedEx for the past couple of days and the damn thing just sayd "LEFT SACRAMENTO FACILITY" or something. That was two days ago. What's going on, is a donkey carrying this thing across the country?

It's scheduled for monday delivery, but at this rate I dunno when it will get here. Meanwhile, I had my iPod make it from Shanghai China to my doorstep in 23 hours... talk about a difference in service.

Of course this is all a moot point, as I HAVE NO 2.5 G5 TO HOOK IT UP TO!!

...breath in... breath out...

Thank you iDave for hosting the Cinema Display pictures, a very nice gesture.

BigEvan23, your 23" display is a truly awesome sight to believe. It must all be beyond words. I can't wait to see one in person.

Thanks

Yah its pretty incredible. When I woke up this morning to turn on my machine and saw that beast on the table my eyes lit up and I couldn't help smiling :D Its like falling in love all over again...haha. It takes a while to get used to because there is just so much real in such a sleek form factor but I really couldn't be happier with it.

How long before Apple has an update to change the display icon in the top menu to go with the new displays?
My guess would be with 10.3.5.

I hooked up my new 20" on Wednesday and I'm happy to report the same thrill as other new owners are reporting. It is just beautiful. Way better looking than the LCD on my 17" iMac. Its so bright, I had to turn it down to about 35% brightness. It was hurting my eyes even at 50%. I have tried to do a variety of tasks to really check out its performance and I can't find a flaw. I watched Pirates of the Caribbean on it and I didn't see any ghosting. I played Generals and Rainbow Six 3 and didn't see any problems with those either. The colors in the games seem even better than before too.

The default setting was 1.8 gamma but I prefer the gamma at 2.2. Monitors of this quality should include more advanced controls for more customized monitor calibration, however.

Did you check the advanced options in the Color Calibration panel? There are enough options in their to get the monitor calibrated just about any way you like (at least for me). That's how I set up my 23".

Thanks Laslo, I didn't even see that, the button is damn small...

just saw them at the Galleria Apple Store

They look pretty awesome, liked the touch sensitive ipod buttons on the side, the 20" and 23" looked equally sweet, you have to have them side by side to tell the difference

Hi guys,

Another question for those of you with the new 23".

Would you describe the top of it to be "very hot" after it's been on for a day? A couple people have written this online.

Double sweet, my 23" just shipped today (due here tuesday) and you say the galleria has em? I'll have to cruise down tomorrow to get a sneak preview. Too bad my G5 is still not shipping. Dunno if I'll hook up the monitor to my pc in the mean time or let it sit and wait for the G5.

At least my Airport Express can tide me over. Mmmm all this apple goodness.

Finally!

Well, I received my new dual 1.8 on Tuesday, but my new 23in display wasn't supposed to deliver until July 27. I figured since I'm a new switcher and wanted to maximize the awe factor, I would wait to set it up with the new display. (My old monitor is an old 17in and wouldn't do it justice.) I just got the notice that my display shipped today and will be here on Monday! :D

There's going to be an Awe Factor, alright! Congrats! Welcome to the Mac world, with a bang.

My 20" is very hot... oh you mean temperature. :D Actually the whole monitor gets pretty warm, but I wouldn't say "very hot". You are not going to burn yourself. I trust Apple's engineers built it so it won't blow up... Now the back of my dual G5 gets pretty hot.

My 20" has just started to work!

I hooked up my 20" this morning, and not to my consternation, it looks and works great as expected.

However, I have one big complaint, which is, I cannot start my Power Mac G4 (1.25GHz Dual) by pressing the power button on the side of the monitor. The manual says I can setup how this button works in the Montor Preference panel, but I couldn't find any such options. :(

Hey Laslo I'm in slo too, do you have the new display? I orded my new 23" from the Mac store in slo and its not here yet.

:(

Well, apple.be now also states the 20" en 23" are now shipping, it took them a while longer than us & uk. So I figured I could have it next week..

now, there's a special happening in the reseller's city, it's called "Gentse feesten", it's a kind of a 10 day during festival in that city, and lots of shops choose that period to close their store completely.. well, guess what, my apple reseller closes that week as well. So it'll be 10 more days until I can find out if my display arrived or not.. sigh

only good thing about it, is that the shipment dates of my display and dual 2.5 keep slipping closer together, so i won't have to go through the horror of using my 23" acd on my athlon xp 1900 for 3 weeks.. (imagine that, it would be rape ;) )

You had me all excited when I saw your title message, Galleria Apple Store. The reason being that our Cambridge Apple Store is at the Galleria. Then my hopes were dashed when I looked at your location. They aren't expecting one of the new displays till next month.

I was at the apple store and must say........... wow the displays look good.

However, anyone else that has seen the 23" does it look like it has a redish tint to you? I am sure you can configure it to be exactly how you want .. but I still am curious as to know what you guys think.

I was strongly considering the 20" but after seeing the 23" I just don't think I could say no!
