In any other division the Giants would be 20 game out and officially buried. No word yet on when or if Barry will be back this season.
The NL West sucks universally right now, none of the teams would really qualify for the wildcard spot at the moment.

So if anybody wants a chance they have to win the division.

You've got a lot of nerve complaining about injuries with a Dodger fan around. We literally have two position players that have stayed healthy. Several relievers have gone down and two starting pitchers have missed a lot of games. It's as if the baseball gods were punishing them, even though they got rid of the Fox ownership.

On the bright side, they're finding out, all at once, which of their immediate prospects have a near future. Small bright side.

Nerve is indeed my middle name and danger is my various breads and butters. But I digress. How about our entire starting outfield and most of the infield out for good parts of the season. The ace of the staff has arm troubles and the closer is out until at least September. On top of that some players, I won't point any fingers, decided this was the year to collectively play like crap. And anyway I see the Dodgers are still a game and a half ahead of the Giants, so complain I will my friend! ;)

MacNut, as always it is a pleasure talking to you too. I'll communicate your kind thoughts to Barry next time I see him. It maybe about the time he passes Ruth. :p btw, I know it is a violation of the rules to throw your helmet (automatic $500 fine I believe) but my point was umpires are too quick with the hook. There was no visible reason to throw the Bum's pitcher out last night - though I quite enjoyed the result!

Well you would, wouldn't you? ;)

I joined the game in the third inning, so I missed that particular play -- but then, so did the umpires apparently.

It's a lost season for both of us. You got to laugh. What other choice is there?

Hello to you too. :) I don't think we will see Mr Bonds any time this season, you must admit tho that it has been a nice quite summer, I haven't seen Pedro Gomez lately, does he still have work. :p

It looked to me like the correct call on the play because Penny made a move in the direction of second base and turned that way, but the argument on the call appeared to be over when Penny was walking away and threw his helmet. Fine the guy, but no reason to toss him.

Personally, I haven't got passed the crying in my beer stage yet. But I laugh between crying and complaining. ;)

Sorry, MacNut, no word on Pedro. I think he maybe the most overpaid reporter in sports for all the work he has to do this season. You might be right about Bonds; I read a statement by him saying he didn't know if he'll be back this year. If he does it will be late August at the earliest.

I console myself by having seen Eric Gagne close out a one-run game this season at Dodger stadium, one of the few saves he managed to ring up this year before the injury. Runner on third, two outs... few moments like it anywhere in baseball. And all those kids they've been forced to play -- well, they're doing better than they have any right to, considering most of them were 1-2 years away from the majors in any normal situation. Hey, when you have to promote a pitcher from AA and he ends up in the starting rotation...

But those injuries -- maddening. Sure, I've heard of pitchers blowing out their arms. It happens. But have you ever heard of a pitcher needing ankle surgery after stumbling in the bullpen? A pitch breaking a batter's wrist? Six weeks on the DL for a sprained finger? Makes you wonder what's next. Abduction by aliens? Beriberi?

Pass the beer.

is there any other braves fans here who think the braves dont get enough credit from the media the braves currently have 10 rookies on their team 3 of their 5 starters got hurt and chipper got hurt and despite all that their still in 2nd place only 1.5 games back and first in the wild card race

and if theres any tampa (which i doubt there is) bay fans just wana let you know i live next door to nick green who the braves traded for jorge sosa

anyway on another note i pick the sox to win the nl east yankees will finish second and have probaly a 60/40 shot at the wild card

I heart Al Leiter. Or anyone who can throw strikes at this point. Only .5 games back!!!
I agree that Leiter saved the day but we still need 3 more healthy starters plus Randy and Moose are still shaky. Gonna be a long road ahead with Texas and Anaheim or Los Angeles or who ever the Angels are now. Im pleased to be back in the race but a lot of season to go.

Good to see, I watched the Red Sox lose and the botched call by the ump. I swear the Red Sox are paying off the umps.

Schilling argued, prompting DeMuth to summon home plate umpire Laz Diaz. Diaz said he saw Schilling touch the base and the call was overturned, ending the inning and taking the run off the board.

The Red Sox left the field quickly, but Devil Rays manager Lou Piniella was enraged and stormed out of the dugout.

"Dana DeMuth, he's 6 feet away from the bag. And then you've got a home plate umpire who's 90 feet away and sees it better than the guy at first base. It's hard for me to believe," Piniella said. "You've got one base to call. Make the call and stand by it."

I love Lou. Always good for a sound byte.

Cross town classic

Well looking how it's going after the all-star break, it's going to be a cross town classic in Chicago. :p
I'm a northsider fan so I think every year this is the one but with the way the southside playing, I got to pick them to go all the way.

I've been to two Sox games this year, and they looked really good. Had a blast both times. Would love to go to a playoff game n watch them.

How eager, do you think, are the Red Sox to trade for Jason Schmidt? As a Giants fan, I've already given given up on the season. However, our GM has never stated whether it's time to go into reconstruction or hope for the playoffs.

what does everyone think of the trade rumors surrounding griffey theres talk about him going to atlanta as a braves fan i really hope that we get griffey we have three rookie outfielders right now and could really use jr.

I have my doubts the Giants are going to trade Schmidt. If they do who is next year's staff ace? I can see a lot of other players, including Tucker, Alfonso, Durham, Grissom, Snow, and Tomko; on the block in the next week.

Griffey has stated he wants to stay in a Reds uniform. What Griffey wants, Griffey gets.

Same down here. DePodesta hasn't given any indications as to whether he's going to be a buyer or a seller. I don't think it makes a lot of sense for the Dodgers to make any big-ticket deals that don't give them something more to work with next season. I doubt they will be picking up the last two or three months of anybody's contract, and it makes even less sense to trade anybody of any significance, given how good the team looked before they started breaking arms and legs. The only one who might go is Weaver, since he's in the last year of an expensive contract and to date remains unsigned.
