That was one of the worst calls I've ever seen. I can't believe Bill didn't challenge it.

He couldn't. It was inside the 2 minutes of the half so the challenges have to come from the replay booth. And I'm fairly sure that pass interference is an unchallengeable call.

Ah well... at least I have a team to root against next week.

Some friends of mine are in Chicago now, going to the game tomorrow... I could have gone with them, but it would have cost something like $1300 for me to go. Really not worth it...

What kinda football fan are you?:p It's playoff football! If there's a chance they win, and you have the cash, of course it's worth it.

When (notice the optimism) the Niners get back to the playoffs, I'll be hopping a flight from London to SF to watch it. That's also the year that I'll make it to MWSF! ;)

<sigh>

Well, it's been quite a season for Pats fans. I think ultimately the personnel losses and the injuries were too strong of factors to overcome. 2 major coaching losses, and trades/retirements. Rookies on the O-line. Nagging injuries and season ending injuries. Next year will be different.

That was one of the WORST officiated games I have ever seen. Terrible.

But, you simply cannot commit that many turnovers (and penalties) and win a game. Particularly a playoff game.

Well, it was Jeff Triplette's crew involved... I swear they're the worst crew for controversial calls; not to mention (in the past) way too many flags (including into a player's eye), inadvertent whistles on fumbles thus negating TDs. Everytime I realise he's the ref, I cringe...

don't count on it too soon

but you had plenty of chances to see great niners play from 1981-1999 and that dynasty is the second longest in the superbowl era, right behind the cowboys who spent seasons in the superbowl and pre-superbowl era in or near the top with coach landry at the helm...they were contenders in most seasons in a 22 year span but yielded only two superbowls from those extraordinary years...they had a furious pace of excellence and when they finally burned out, they took a decade to rebuild as will take the niners to get back to montana/young/rice/lott status, imo

if you want to come to america sooner, choose several more teams to root for and that way you should make it here within the next few years

Heck, I'll be out before then. That will just be my first Niners play off game! I made it out to Superbowl XXXVIII a few years back so I've done one NFL postseason game! ;) I've made the pilgrimage to see the Niners play each year since 1997 so I did get to see a Young to Rice TD. And despite having a brief flirtation when Mooch went to the Lions, I couldn't imagine supporting another team seriously. Watching Joe Montana on the highlights in the mid-80s was the reason I started watching American football.

I think the only teams I haven't seen play live are the Ravens, Chargers, Jags, Dolphins, Texans and Bears. A group of friends and I used to plan a football trip each year, driving between various NFL cities and trying to fit in 2 Sunday/2 Monday night games. I think our record was 3 NFL games in 2 days which we did twice (Arizona on a Saturday followed by 1pm Niners game and 5.30 Raiders one on Sunday and then the next year, the 1pm Cleveland game followed by the 8.30 in Pittsburgh and the MNF in Washington)

So am i.. let me dream.. (but seattle can still slaughter Indy!)

Ed

i have no doubt that the most likely scenario is seattle vs indy, but i don't know if seattle could beat indy that easily

seattle really needs a ring more than anybody considering their history...heck they need to win a conference championship first though ;)...too bad jerry rice can't be a part of this seahawks team and if he stayed in football, he might have just been a bench warmer for denver (who is still alive in the postseason)

here is a scenario for you...three month us vacation...come out in october 2007 and watch barry bonds surpass hank aaron at home in sf, then hang out in the city and bay area for awhile, then see the niners (possibly) in a playoff game at home and attend macworld sf as they release 4 ghz laptops and $69 dollar ipods

I think the Colts would beat Seattle, but first things first ... let me savor this Sunday afternoon as the Steelers eat dust. One other thing I would love to see less of in sports telecasts are the frequent sideline shots with cameras nearly fixated on coaches. I have long since reached the limit of being able to watch Bill Cowher incessantly chomp on his gum and with mouth open most of the time.

I'll be leaving for the Bears vs. Panthers game soon and I have all the confidence in the world the Bears will win yet again.:D

But seriously, it should be an outstanding game. I think the key will be for which ever team scores first. If either team can get a two score lead early in the game I don't if either team will be able to come back. I have a feeling that the Bears are going to come out firing instead of running as everyone thinks. If they could get a rhythm going on offense with the passing game I think it could hurt the Panthers because I'm sure they'll be set to stop the run. The same goes for the Panthers too. The Bears D will have to give a little more respect to their passing game, especially with the number one receiver playing today. Although Steve Smith caught 14 passes against them last time and they still held him out of the end zone.

I wonder how much of the Panthers offense has changed in the last year in terms of plays, signals etc. In other words, how useful has Muhsin Muhammed been to his defense this week in terms of coaching them in the Panthers tendencies in audibles etc.

Coming to the end of the first quarter in Indy and I'm amazed. The Steelers are passing rather than running, that 'improved' Indy D has holes (I guess it's not helped by Harper being stabbed by his wife last night)... but the Colts being held without an completion? Did they relax a little too much once they'd clinched?

Still, if any offense has the guns to come back, it's the Colts. But this is a surprise so far!

14-3 at halftime - should be a great second half!

Yes, but I was hoping to see Indy have a halftime lead of 10-14 points. Plenty of time left ... if Colts choke, I will officially be nauseous later.

Well, it's either be nauseous today or nauseous next week when they lose to the Broncos... :p ;)

No, I'm not a Broncos fan, just trying to stir the pot...

well it looks like the colts dream wont come true this year.....they arent playing all that good in the 2nd half its like they already given up.

update: except that last play...good call by Manning

Definitely the right thing to do; I couldn't believe that Dungy was sending on the punt team. However, I do think that if the Steelers hadn't blitzed on it, they might not have converted. I'd have kept Polamalu in the middle rather than having him blitz

I'm loving this game.....taking risk and it paying off for both teams....Betis is a beast

Definitely the best of the playoff games this year...

Colts caught a break with that interception call since if Polamalu hadn't got up, then presumably it would still have been an interception... bizzare ruling! I suspect there will be a lot of talk about that. The 2006 version of the Tuck Rule?

Wow, what a finish! In the end though, my prediction from a couple months ago held true - the Colts would not reach the SuperBowl - just didn't think it would happen this way! ;)

Broncos versus Steelers, Seahawks versus Panthers - should be a great couple of games next weekend! :p ;) :D
