Ahhhh. The Saints trounce the Cowboys 42-17, and Carolina loses.

I'm feeling pretty good.
Well, the Panthers officially suck the big one. The general feeling in Charlotte right now is that we'd be better off with a blindfolded, drunken monkey throwing darts at a board than with our current coaching staff (particularly our Offensive Coordinator Dan "I Never Met a Draw Play I Didn't Like, Especially on Third-and-Long" Henning).

I guess I can root for the Saints to do well... especially since we all know they'll find a way to choke once they hit the playoffs. :p

come on....you can't root for the Saints if you're a Panther fan. I like the Falcons, and i'll never root for the Saints (unless it helps the Falcons). in fact, i dislike the Saints even more now

Well, I for damn sure will never root for the Falcons, especially not while Vick (spit) is there.

I guess if I had to pick an NFC team to root for, it'd be the Cowboys, since I was a Dallas fan before the Panthers were formed. In the AFC, I'm for anyone except the Colts.

and i'll never root for the Panthers, but you don't see me spitting on anyone

the reason i say you (you in particular) shouldn't root for the saints, is b/c they are in the same division as your panthers. why would you root for them?

Because I know they won't make it to the Super Bowl. And because in 40 years, I suppose they deserve to have at least ONE good season before another 40 years of cellar-dwelling.

And sorry, but certain words like Vick (spit) and Wal-Mart (spit) make me spit. As a Falcon fan, you must have loved that bit last weekend where he threw a double bird to the hometown fans, hmm?

well, i don't think that's a reason to root for someone. but if you do, then go ahead.

as far as Vick goes, yeah - he messed up on that one. and it wasn't last week. the week before. but really, everyone puts the blame on him, and it's not a one-man team. that same game he rushed for 166 yards. he did really all he could. and they lost. he can put the ball in the receiver's hands, but he can't make them catch it

if i were him, i'd be upset too

Sorry, you're right, it was two weekends ago.

The fact is that he's a lousy quarterback. He'd make a GREAT running back who can occasionally throw a pass as part of a trick play, but he really has no consistent pocket presence. He works a progression one time and if no one's open, he bolts. Some teams are already figuring out how to counter that, and if he's FORCED to sit back and pass, he gets sacked... a lot. Sure, it doesn't help that his receivers have stone hands lately.

Giving him a 10-year, $120M contract was a huge mistake and I think folks are now starting to figure that out.

well i guess we'll find out in the next 3 weeks.

but i disagree. what do you call the games he played against the Steelers and Bengals? and you think teams are figuring out his running? when this year he's ran the most of his career? and about to get the season record if he wants it.

i agree he's not the best passer, but he makes up for it with his legs.

without Vick, where do you think the falcons would be? we saw before when he got injured, they went 5 - 11, and he won some of those games at the end of the season

Its a mistake in terms of a football move, but if you look at football like a business its a fine investment because he sells plenty of merch.

But by definition, a quarterback's job is to deliver the ball to a back or a reciever, not to run it himself. I keep expecting the Falcons to come out with 10 offensive linemen spread across the field to block for a one-man offense ;)

Interesting games this weekend - can't believe that I scored 121 points in one of my fantasy league play-offs and still lost :(

maybe so. but his job is also to manage the game, which could mean keep it and run it himself. he's not the only quarterback to do it, he's just the best at it

21-0

bye bye brady

god I hate the fish.

Fish/Pats is one of those things.. no matter how each team might suck, beating the other counts as a major win and they always play each other hard. In this case, the fish D was great (as ususal) and the O was crappy (as usual), but the Pats O was worse and still plagued by turnovers.

I have to hand it to the fish for a fine win.

But I still hate them.

Squish the Fish!

EDIT: Much love to the Bills for trouncing the Jets and keeping them off our backs in the division. Kisses!

Not to be pedantic, but dolphins are not fish. ;)

if I could just weigh in on Vick...

back when he was at VT, WVU coach Don Nehlen said (quite rightly I thought) that the reason VT was so good was because of Vick; you take him away and they're "nothing special."

ditto with the Falcons...without Vick they are unimpressive.

however...

I'm beginning to think that Vick is as good as he's ever going to get. I don't think he'll ever be the kind of guy who can reliably throw the ball 24-30 times a game, which is what the west coast offense is supposed to do.

And yes, I know, his receivers suck.

But when you pressure him or you force him to go to his 2nd or 3rd receiver, he usually doesn't come up with the play. I think what you saw at VT is what Vick can do: he can hit his primary target, and if that's not open he can scramble. He never has been a really great passer, and IMHO it's unlikely he ever will be.

I agree with an earlier post about playing him at receiver. With his skills it's almost foolish not to.

I keep asking myself this question:
if I were building a team (not a fantasy team, a real team), who would I pick at QB? I can think of probably 10 guys I'd take before I even looked at Vick...

Beatsme, I can summarize your comments about Vick (spit) in about two sentences:

He was a GREAT college QB. He's a crap NFL QB.

In college ball, quarterbacks often are expected to run the ball. That's the nature of college ball. But in the pros, quarterbacks are expected to THROW the ball or hand it off to a dedicated running back. Running with the ball is a last resort, but Vick (spit) would probably run the ball on every play if he thought he could get away with it.

It's telling when a good QB like Donovan McNabb, who came into the league as a Vick (spit)-style QB but matured into a pocket passer, criticizes the guy. A QB who runs in the NFL is not doing his job... even if they do win partially as a result of his running, the fact is that one of these days, he's gonna get tackled hard on one of his runs and that'll be the end of his career (and a HUGE salary cap hit for Atlanta).

I cannot disagree with that.. but will add a little. College ball isn't noted for it's defense either. I think a lot of the things that made Vick a superstar in college don't translate to the NFL. Yes, he can run like a madman, which helps keep Ds honest, but he really cannot be the 1 Man Show that he might have been at VT. He was incredible to watch at VT.

If the Panthers had been as amazing as everyone predicted, and the Saints as terrible, I'd have no problem rooting for Carolina.

On Vick, he's terribly exciting to watch. He's a tremendous athlete who happens to play quarterback. I'd like to see how he would play under a different coach. But with Atlanta's owner seemingly willing to pay whatever price necessary to keep Vick around, seems he'll always be there.

However, it's all for naught, no one is going to stop San Diego.
