yeah, every team has bad games. but really, that fumble at the end of the game, shouldn't have been a fumble. James was clearly stopped, and they didn't blow the whistle.

but besides that game, their offense hasnt been very good at all. i mean, a quarterback rating of 1.3!

but maybe they will make it far in the playoffs, we'll see

so, who do you propose is a better team than the bears? preferably at least one team from each conference

And? Grossman also has six games over 100 QB rating. His QB rating on the season is 72.6. Vick is 73.6

Twice now, jello beats me by four minutes! Plus I'm far exceeding my .14 posts per day average. From now on I'll let him do all the refuting.

i'm not even a bears fan really, but i don't see the logic in bashing them compared to all the other (flawed) teams out there.

Alright, I'll make an exception and post for a third time today. Thanks for nothing.

I think it has a lot to do with the Bears sucking so badly for the second half of the 90's and the early part of the 00's. 2001 was a total fluke as that team should have been 9-7 at best. So now, when they have a lot going for them there's been a huge surge of obnoxious homers everywhere.

The ESPN boards were filled with posts about the Bears the first five or six weeks of the season. So I think it's brought out a lot of hate for the Bears based on some really big morons posting ridiculous predictions and proclamations. Frankly I don't care if they get bashed on. It's fun to argue about it like it is being debated here. The sports website boards are next to impossible to avoid it turning into some ridiculous pissing match. So I don't bother.

And just a bit more refuteage. If the offense is so terrible, how come when you take away the (9) touchdowns scored by the defense and Hester, the Bears have still scored more points than 25 teams?

well of course i have to pick my team - Falcons (not that i say that they are better, but i have to say they have a chance)

but really, as much as i hate to say, the saints do look pretty good. even though i think i'd rather see the bears win, but i'm not sure about that. also, i think dallas is better than what they showed sunday night, even though i hope my falcons beat them

but i think there are several in the AFC that are looking good. the Ravens and the Chargers.

ha! see, even Vick (a terrible quarterback, according to the people around here) even has a better rating. and if you factor in his legs....he's leaps and bounds better!

I think it is the whole NFC that is suspect...maybe all of football.

The Bears, like Seattle play in soft divisions. Minnesota started the season OK, but quickly sucked after that. It is hard to give respect to a team that gets 6 wins from their division by default. When they have faced any defense that was average to good - Grossman has sucked - once they get to the playoffs they should only see good D's. Seattle is a similar story - they get respect for beating up on the division and are really a soft team. They will make the playoffs, but they have many problems. In the South, New Orleans has played well, but something keeps me from believing, in the East - Dallas? Come on. The wild card possibilities of Giants, Eagles or Falcons? Does anyone see any of the NFC playoff contenders being able to keep pace with any playoff team in the AFC? I don't.
So I guess that is why no one is respecting the Bears - they may be the best in the NFC, but does it matter in the grand scheme of the NFL? Does anyone really think that a New Orleans, Dallas or other NFC playoff team stands no chance against them in the playoffs?

Sorry, wrong stat was posted. I was looking at career on Grossman. His season QB rating is better than Vick's at 74.5, so almost a point higher. I guess Vick does suck!:D

As for Ziwi's comments, I think it's funny how in the 80's/90's that's exactly what everyone was saying about the AFC. Interesting how the tables have turned.

falcons lost to the lions and the browns... what more needs to be said? (based on your logic of picking one game to exemplify a team's ability)

dallas has lost to each of its nfc east foes, including the redskins (flukey as that game may have been). they also got seriously manhandled by the saints (this past week. ie, very recently. ie, more telling of their team than the first couple games of the season)

the saints are good, i agree. their potent offense vs. the bears' defense will be interesting. sort of similar to what we'd see in an SD vs CHI matchup, though i think SD's defense is better than NO's. NO's worst loss is to the steelers, in pittsburgh, which isn't horrible, despite the steelers' ugly season.

i've already analyzed why there's just as much reason to doubt the two afc leaders as there is the bears.

overall i don't think there's a singular powerhouse, and it'll be interesting to see who puts it all together down the stretch. i'm guessing all the top teams could lose another game before it's all done, but the next 3 weeks should be fairly telling.

also- i don't think vick sucks. he's great to watch and very talented. the question is whether he's enough to lead his team... in other words, vick IS a lot of the falcons' offense, and they don't have as much room for error as chicago because their D is not nearly as good as chicago's, so vick has a lot more burden to carry. he may be a "better" qb than grossman, but compared to what he's asked to provide to his team, he doesn't seem to be able to measure up

I completely agree with you. Honestly I think Vick gets way more criticism than he deserves.

yeah i know the Falcons lost to those teams. they had injuries and all, and i know, there's no excuse, so i won't give them one. it's like they have 2 different identites.....when the receives catch, and when they drop.

the falcons looked the best i've ever seen against the steelers and bengals, but then they lost 4 in a row. and they didn't look to good against tampa bay, but it's always hard for them to win in tampa. this weekend will tell us how good they are, big game.

but i really agree that there is no real powerhouse. there are several good teams out there that could make it to the superbowl. that's why the NFL is better than college. there is no gimmie games.

i personally just don't like the bears, but it doesn't mean that they aren't any good.

and you are right about Vick, the whole offense revolves around him, and the threat of him running. it's usually safe to say that when he runs, they win. but when they lost that game when he ran for 166 yards (and he gave the bird) it showed that he gave everything he had, and they still lost. couldn't ask more from him, but he still got blamed

Lamar Hunt, who founded the AFL and was instrumental in getting the NFL and AFL to eventually merge, passed away last night at the age of 74.

That's a real shame. He truly was one of the giants of football and was a great guy. He and the Chiefs organisation have embraced the game, new innovation and constantly strived to make the game more competitive and more fun. He's a great loss to the game...

Steelers!

went to my first Steelers game yesterday, after having been a fan for years. The Panthers have a very nice stadium, and I must admit they have some very gracious fans; the Panther fans I spoke to were universally polite and friendly, before, during, and after the game.

tickets cost me a fortune...scalpers. What are you gonna do?

ClayJ, were you roaming about in a Panther-blue Santa suit, with a piece of duct tape across the back? If that was you, I drove right past you...

The Chargers keep taking full advantage of the rule book. The Vincent Jackson "forward pass" a few weeks ago and now the blocked/muffed punt rule last night. Its great being lucky.

Most winning teams have a little luck on their way to success - football is a game of inches, sometimes the bounce of the ball one way or other is all it takes. The Chargers and the Bears are both lucky this year... a little like the Pats a few years ago. Of course, you still have to be a good team to take advantage of them. I sat up to watch the game last night and was awed yet again by LT - truly deserves to use that moniker.

He is definitely fun to watch though I think he probably shouldn't have been in on the last drive (when they were trying to run out the clock). They were just trying to get him over 200 yards and it looked like he might of tweaked his jaw abit. In those situations thats why you have Turner (which in himself had a good night).

i've always found it amusing that the placement of the ball is very much inexact after any given play, but then so much importance rests on that that they actually measure it with a chain link measuring device. so exactly inexact.

I enjoy watching the players try to gain advantages with placement. Like a lineman "accidently" nudging the ball with his foot, whilst he stands with arms akimbo chatting with a teammate.

No, I was wearing a jersey ("JOHANSON 37") just like I always do.

And the Panthers SUCKED on Sunday.
