I agree with this. Going for two is pretty bush league. But also, what goes around, comes around. USC won't be down for long, and I'll bet Pete Carroll doesn't forget this.

It reminds me of a few years ago when we were playing Auburn. They were up by 28 in the 4th quarter, and we actually stopped them on a drive on about our 35 or so. Tommy Tubberville brings out his FG team, then proceeds to run a fake field goal for a huge gain and, a few plays later, another TD. I actually would not have had a problem with him leaving the offense on the field and going for it, but a fake field goal? Totally classless. (And yet another reason I can't stand Tubberville)

That makes no sense. Why would Tuberville waste a fake FG play in that instance?

You don't think an undefeated Cincinatti would get left out in favor of, say, Florida and Texas?

Even that scenario wouldn't be a first. In the 2004 season, Auburn (from the SEC, a BCS conference) was undefeated and finished 3rd in the rankings. They weren't in the championship game. In 1997, the Bowl Alliance (which did not include the Big 10) left undefeated Michigan out of the mix, setting up a split championship with Nebraska (which got to play in the NC game). In 1994, Penn State was undefeated, but not selected by the Bowl Coalition (which also did not include the Big 10) to play for the NC.

The moral of the story is, "Never say never."

my point was that it would never happen to a bcs conference 2 years in a row

I have no idea. The only thing I can figure out is that he and Jackie Sherrill never seemed to like each other, and he wanted to really rub it in. It was one of Sherrill's last (and worst) years. Now that I think about it, they may have only been up 21, but it was still damn annoying to watch.

Sometimes I think coaches go for two or run trick plays when they have big leads because it gives the team a chance to practice against a real opponent without the pressure and risk of losing the game if they don't succeed.

However, I'm kinda from the old school when it comes to this sort of thing. On semi pro and pro levels in sports you need to do your part not to get embarrased. Don't whine or moan because you had a bad day and the other team "took it to you".

To think of it another way a coach should always want his opponent to be doing his best because it makes his own team better. If you're down by 4 scores and the game is lost then most coaches put in their non starters to avoid meaningless injury. At this point you want to evaluate the talent of your second or third string players. How can you seriously evaluate them if the other team is not playing hard or giving it 100%.

I'll add a disclaimer here that I'm talking about semi-pro or pro level sports. No one wants to see running up the score in little league.

It seems like Mr. Cardinal needs a little bit of help with trash-talking. I know you're new at it so I don't blame you too much.

I have a message to all you USC fans who were ticked off about Our Stanford Cardinal going for the two-point conversion

I attend USC and I have not heard one person complain about your two-point conversion. Not one.

Last year, you thumped Washington state 69 TO ZERO!! Later, you beat Washington 56 TO ZERO! How is that NOT running up the score ?

Because you apparently didn't watch those games. We played through the half and then put in our scrubs and ran the ball every possession. What do you want us to do, throw interceptions on purpose? We ran up the middle every single play with our backups and scored that many.

3rd Stringers to be exact. I don't recall SC running a single pass play in the second half.

Gameday! GO HORNS!

A UCLA buddy of mine scored me an extra ticket to their game against ASU. Should be fun!

So Notre Dame take the lead 20-17 early in the fourth.

If UConn comes out with the W in South Bend does Charlie keep his job?

I say no.

I respect McCoy. He seems to be a great player on and off the field. Thats kinda like Tebow, but for some reason I don't like Tebow. Maybe its because he is so good.

It's a shame that you basically have to be a QB or a RB to win the Heisman, because Suh is a great player and by all reports a really nice guy.

I think it's a shame C.J. Spiller from Clemson isn't getting more attention for the Heisman. He is amazing, and has put up great numbers. He has scored in almost every manner: kick/punt returns, receptions, and rushing. Sportscenter mentioned he is the only player in FBS to score in every game this season. If he played for Texas or Florida, he'd be the leader. I also think Masoli from Oregon should be getting some consideration. He's been amazing all year.
