when oh when will people learn that being good in college does not mean you will be good in nfl
i cant think of any good college to nfl coaches
i can think of some good nfl to college though, namely carrol
same with bball
College to pro: Bill Walsh
Of course, going the other way rarely produces great coaches. For every Pete Carroll, there are coaches like Al Groh and Charlie Weis.
i know i would love coaching the college game much more
while still a buisness, its one with a great atmopshere and players play to play, not to get paid imo
ive been to broncos games and csu/nebraska games and college games are just much more fun
there is no pep band in the pro stands
Sadly, the college game is become just as much a business as the NFL game. Did anyone happen to catch the part about Brown's and Saban's salaries during the game last night? Insane. With the amount of money involved with big time college football, it has become as pressure-filled as the NFL. These programs want winners, and won't tolerate losing. College coaching is a year round affair with long days, even out of season. These guys have to go to fundraising events, publicity events, etc.
Then, of course, you have all the restrictions. The NCAA has an insane amount of nitpicky regulations. Regulations on recruiting, practice time, interaction with boosters, and more. If the NCAA actually enforces all these regs, every major football program could be put on probation. I can easily see how all these rules and regulations can drive a coach to leaving or even health problems. As far as Carroll goes, I can see him wanting to go back to the NFL. His record wasn't that great in the NFL, and I can understand him wanting another chance to prove himself there.
Personally, I prefer college to the NFL. I love the tradition, the rivals, the mascots, tailgating, and more. I feel a much closer bond with my alma mater than I ever will to any professional franchise. I found it amusing when NFL programs were talking about how big the new Cowboys stadium is. It's the biggest NFL stadium, yet would still be around 2-3rd largest in the SEC. (And probably the Big12. I know Texas and Texas A&M have huge stadiums) I worry, though, that all this increased money and competition is hurting the game. The gap between the best programs and the rest seems to be getting larger, and I find it a bit disturbing.
