Is it really that bad? I know about the Reggie Bush situation, but that's not a case of the school or staff being involved, so I'd imagine worse case USC has to forfeit some wins (which doesn't strike me as that big a deal).

Now it is Joe McKnight, and he is bailing and going pro

rare i think.

i know i would love coaching the college game much more

while still a buisness, its one with a great atmopshere and players play to play, not to get paid imo

ive been to broncos games and csu/nebraska games and college games are just much more fun

there is no pep band in the pro stands

I don't understand. We can afford to pay him more than $7,000,000 per year.

Pete wasn't the best tactician in the game, but he's the best recruiter in the nation and he had an aura about him that just made people want to play for him. Unless we get Jeff Fisher I don't see how this won't be terrible for the program.

Initial reports are they are targeting Mike Riley from Oregon State
Or former assistant and first year head coach Steve Sarkisian from Washington

And what does everyone make of the Mangino, Leach and Leavitt firings?
Bad coaches or whiny players?

Re: Texas Tech, it's a mixed bag but the consensus seems to think Adam James is a whiny brat and that Leach was the best coach they ever had, and he shouldn't have been fired. That opinion may be subject to change if facts about this case some to light that I don't know about.

Where do you think Leach will end up?
I can't see him staying out of coaching

I can't, either.

Some of the talking heads at ESPN think that because of the allegations against him he'll be thought of as coaching poison, but there are enough programs out there I think someone will give him a shot. It's hard to deny the success he had at TTU, surely there's a program out there that would take a chance on him.

He might not get as high a profile position as he's leaving, but he'll end up somewhere.

when oh when will people learn that being good in college does not mean you will be good in nfl

i cant think of any good college to nfl coaches
i can think of some good nfl to college though, namely carrol

same with bball

College to pro: Bill Walsh

Of course, going the other way rarely produces great coaches. For every Pete Carroll, there are coaches like Al Groh and Charlie Weis.

Sadly, the college game is become just as much a business as the NFL game. Did anyone happen to catch the part about Brown's and Saban's salaries during the game last night? Insane. With the amount of money involved with big time college football, it has become as pressure-filled as the NFL. These programs want winners, and won't tolerate losing. College coaching is a year round affair with long days, even out of season. These guys have to go to fundraising events, publicity events, etc.

Then, of course, you have all the restrictions. The NCAA has an insane amount of nitpicky regulations. Regulations on recruiting, practice time, interaction with boosters, and more. If the NCAA actually enforces all these regs, every major football program could be put on probation. I can easily see how all these rules and regulations can drive a coach to leaving or even health problems. As far as Carroll goes, I can see him wanting to go back to the NFL. His record wasn't that great in the NFL, and I can understand him wanting another chance to prove himself there.

Personally, I prefer college to the NFL. I love the tradition, the rivals, the mascots, tailgating, and more. I feel a much closer bond with my alma mater than I ever will to any professional franchise. I found it amusing when NFL programs were talking about how big the new Cowboys stadium is. It's the biggest NFL stadium, yet would still be around 2-3rd largest in the SEC. (And probably the Big12. I know Texas and Texas A&M have huge stadiums) I worry, though, that all this increased money and competition is hurting the game. The gap between the best programs and the rest seems to be getting larger, and I find it a bit disturbing.

The problem with Mike Leach was that every time he had an issue with the Tech administration or athletic department, he lawyered up. I can't think of a single coach...ever...that tried to file a restraining order against their university in order to let them coach a game.

Despite the man's obvious football genius when it comes to offense, the poison he created between himself and his bosses is likely to haunt him for a while. It also doesn't help that many of the current Tech players spoke out in favor of Adam James rather than Mike Leach.

He is a lawyer, so I suppose that isn't very surprising. :D

But, yeah, those problems with the TT administration will cause problems down the road for him. Not many ADs will want to hire Leach if they think they will be in a constant battle with him.

Wow, four trophies and a statue erected for Saban

A statue? Seriously? Outside the stadium in Tuscaloosa?
That's a little lot much don't you think?
Well to be fair, his statue is going alongside those of Bear Bryant, Wallace Wade, Gene Stallings, and the other guy whose name I can't recall at the moment. Not quite like we're setting up a monument to Saban the Redeemer.

And only in Alabama, the Championship trophy will be displayed at Walmart
Milk.
Bread.
Cat food.
Toilet paper.
Photo next to big shiny trophy.

I think I'll skip the photo op even though I do need the other 4 items.

I swear, what does it take before you take non BCS teams seriously....even after 1 year from being pounded by one

This is exactly why the Fiesta Bowl sucked this year...to save BCS schools from being beaten

BSU has played 2 top 25 teams

TCU has played 3 including BSU

But those dont count do they

All I know is the MWC is 4-1 this year in bowl season, the WAC about to be 3-2 whereas the SEC is 5-4

Do you see 6-4. that means there was 10 teams out of 12. The SEC is the most powerful conference

Going to bowls doesn't necessarily mean that you're the best. It means that you have at least 6 wins and you are sure to bring a lot of fans to the game. There were plenty of bowl eligible schools that didn't go to a bowl game because they weren't popular enough. All the "10 out of 12" go to bowl games proves is that the SEC is the most popular conference and people want to watch those schools.

Now, I agree that the SEC is the best conference all around. But I don't believe that they are head-and-shoulders above the rest. I don't believe all the talk of "The winner of the MWC couldn't hang with the 3rd place SEC team" garbage. The SEC is good, but it isn't the be-all-end-all of college football.

Roll Tide. I just got back from Pasadena. Best time of my life. You have to feel bad for Colt.

That's awesome that you were able to go! :)

Yeah, I do feel bad for McCoy. It's just one of those things though, but it sure was awful timing.

I have a feeling USC is in real trouble here. I think they're going to lose a lot of recruits with Carroll bolting for Seattle.

They definitely have talent on the team right now, but every team is going to have to go through a transition year (or two) when a new coach comes to town.

Badandy, what are your thoughts on the whole thing? You obviously have a better seat than the rest of us...

I know it has been a few days but I just wanted to remind everyone that Alabama Won the National Championship! :D

Ok on to more serious stuff. The "stuff" that is going on at USC right now. Ouch ouch and ouch!
