I know it has been a few days but I just wanted to remind everyone that Alabama Won the National Championship! :D

Ok on to more serious stuff. The "stuff" that is going on at USC right now. Ouch ouch and ouch!

Sounds like they are losing recruits. This could be really bad for them if they don't hire a big name and soon

Now comes one of my favorite times of year. I love to watch the last month of recruiting and all the speculation about coaching changes.

With the coaching convention going on this week in Orlando, lots of rumors are also swirling about the DC job at UGA (I read they offered Kirby Smart $750k) and the head jobs at USC and USF. Looks like Mike Riley signed a 3-year extension with Oregon State, so he's likely off the table for USC.

At A&M, the names swirling around for the new defensive coordinator are Air Force's Tim DeRuyter, Boise State's Justin Wilcox, Pitt's Phil Bennett and (just this morning) Kentucky's Steve Brown.

This is priceless. The MNC trophy went on display at a Tuscaloosa WalMart. Check out the story here.

The saying is a picture is worth 1000 words, so here are a few thousand words in non-slideshow format.

Dr. Pepper's idea, not ours.

I wonder how much time the owners of that site spent poring over the thousands of pictures that were taken to find the ones that reinforce certain stereotypes the most.

Meanwhile, we are yet to hire a DC. I just hope it doesn't hurt recruiting. Supposedly, Mullen will be doing some face-to-face talking at the coaches' convention. I hope he gets somebody good. We haven't had a really good defense since Ellis Johnson left. We did sign Brett Favre's nephew. Too bad he doesn't have Brett's size or cannon arm. He did set all kinds of records in high school, so hopefully he can turn out ok.

Jim Leavitt is demanding his job back! This could get really interesting...

I don't believe he has a case
But let's say he does, and gets the job back
How do we think that would work out??
Maybe it gets him the money, but it would never work again there
The damage has been done

Is that a poem?

Anyway, it could work out about how Tommy Tuberville worked out at Auburn after the JetGate incident. He had some real success there for a few years, but there was always tension and it ended up costing him his job in the long run.

As for Leavitt, I can understand him wanting his job back (instead of just wanting a payoff) since he made that program and turned down other jobs to stay there.

Oh, I agree, he wanted to be Bobby Bowden there, and made that clear
But I think there is just too much going on, especially with these incidents
I don't see how it could ever work
Just my opinion

Oh come, you live in Tuscaloosa. You know as well as I do that people like that are all over the place. We have the same types here, just replace the Bama shirts with Ole Miss shirts. :D (Ok, we have the our share of rednecks as well. We just admit it.)

Yeah, even if he got the job back, there would be serious tension there. I don't think I would want to work anywhere where management has shown they don't want me there. The same thing happened with Tubberviile at Auburn. It seemed to me that after the whole Petrino affair, the Auburn administration was just looking for an excuse to fire him.

Looks like Pete is officially gone from USC. I find this the most interesting. Wonder where USC will sit next year and I am wondering if this will be the decline of the program for a few years. I hope so! :D

Maybe they'll just throw $6M per year at Saban. He'll go pretty much anywhere that offers him more jack than he's getting now. Plus, LA is a lot prettier than Tuscaloosa.

I think people are overreacting a bit with the doom and gloom about USC. If they get the right guy in there, I think they'll be fine. They're still loaded with talent, and if they hire well, recruits will keep coming. I don't know what the NCAA will do, but I bet it's lighter than what people are predicting. The NCAA only cares about the illusion of integrity in college athletics - as long as the money is coming in, they're not going to seriously hurt such a high profile program. USC is betting that their sacrificial lamb to the NCAA (the basketball team) will be enough - it'll be interesting to see how it all goes down.

Couldn't have said it better myself, especially since I heard Muschamp is now candidate #1 to replace Carroll.

O RLY?

This is good news for just about everybody except UT, actually. He's a damn good coach, and he'll be pretty successful recruiting out west, I have a feeling. Might even be able to lure some Texas H.S. players out there, at least the first few years.

I'm interested to see how this plays out.

There's been some talk, but I actually don't think there's any chance of it happening. I posted it mostly to see our burnt orange friend squirm.

Update on the UGA DC search. Tom Dienhart tweeted the following tonight:

I have been told by someone close to the Georgia DC search that Kirby Smart is staying at Alabama. Todd Grantham looks like the main target.

If the Bulldog brass is really throwing the $700k number around like I've read, I hope A&M gets their DC hire done ASAP, because I've read that the Ags are "only" looking to pay in the neighborhood of $400k.

I haven't heard that rumor. Sounds like you've retracted. I listened to the entire press conference today at work. 15 mins or so of solid, positive talk from the coach. Strangest, but good, resignation press conference ever. It was more like a pep rally with the you're all great, we're great, the university is great, listing out all the great players and team achievements and then...peace out, Seattle here I come.
