On the one hand, it's good that Arsenal are being responsible enough to try and avoid getting any further into debt – the fact remains though that this youth policy they've adopted in recent years hasn't had the desired results out on the pitch. The question is, how long will the lack of trophies be tolerated in the boardroom and on the terraces?

It already seems people on the terraces aren't happy. Wenger himself said at the end of the season he needed to buy an experienced midfielder\defender and that doesn't look like it's going to happen. At least, not a big(ish) name the fans were hoping for. It is good Arsenal don't want to go on a silly spending spree but at this rate, they're only going downwards, and with Everton and Villa looking good, and Man City having seemingly a bottomless pit of cash, Arsenal are really going to have a battle for the 4th place Champions League spot.
This comment seemed to sum it up:
"Simply spending money does not make a team or guarantee success," said chief executive Ivan Gazidis.
While he's absolutely correct, a good manager can spend money on the right players and gel them into a successful team. I would have thought Wenger more than capable of doing that...

From the BBC's Transfer Gossip section:
1006 BST: Sunderland boss Steve Bruce hopes to push through his first summer signing over the weekend after agreeing a fee with Manchester United for Fraizer Campbell. (Press Association)
Oh dear!

Indeed, it would seem so. If you're handy with a ball Fizzoid I'd get yourself down to the KC and see if they'll have you, if you've got your own pair of boots that would be a bonus.

Sky Sports News is reporting the fee as in the region of £5million, a million less than the fee we agreed. The cheeky blighters. I wonder what fee he'd command in the MacRumors Fantasy League though? [/Gratuitous plug]

Think I may still have a pair of Peter Swan's old boots at my grandad's up in Brid. Might have to dig them out and get myself off to the KC then :)

I don't know how old you are, but if you're a similar age to me you may remember a football-based comic strip called Billy's Boots.

Basically, Billy was an ordinary lad like you or I, but he couldn't play football to save his life. All this changed one day when he found a pair of battered old boots belonging to a star player of long ago. When he put the boots on, he miracuously acquired the skills of the long-dead larker.

You ought to try 'Swannie's Shoes' on and see if you develop some of his skills. Mind, these days that mainly consists of talking rubbish on the radio and telling folk you're going to be the next Port Vale manager, but it's a start I suppose.

Well, it's official – the boy Campbell has completed his move to Sunderland. Fraizer is a Black Cat, not a Tiger.

It's disappointing, not just in so far as we've missed out on the signing but the manner in which it happened. A fee was agreed with Manchester United, personal terms with the player were apparently sorted, and Campbell Snr declared the signing would be completed once he returned from the Under-21 European Championships. Then it transpired he was straight off on a family holiday directly from Sweden, and would only be able to sort out things once he came back from there, on the 16th I believe. However, it would seem that Sunderland appeared a better option, apparently for footballing and financial reasons, so Campbell has cut short his holiday and raced to the North East for his medical and to put pen to paper on his contract.

If he didn't want to come here in the first place then I've no issue with that whatsoever, it's his choice entirely after all. However, what disappoints is the rather shabby way he and his father have behaved, essentially stringing us along as a 'Plan B' in the off chance they couldn't engineer the contract they wanted elsewhere. Campbell Snr and Jnr have emerged from this with little credit and it's unfortunate that the player's reputation has been tarnished, he's idolised by some here due to his exploits in our promotion season. But what will be will be.

We've offered the asking price to the club, a lucrative deal (by our standards, at least) to the player, and have been incredibly indulgent to the delays forced upon us over the last few weeks. But we're going to have to look elsewhere it seems.

Fizzoid – time to dig those boots out, the number 9 shirt is vacant as it happens.

Although West Ham have gone without blue sleeves in the past, to me it doesn't look right for their shirt to be all claret.

Essentially, it's along the same lines as the new Rangers shirt – a modification of Umbro's new Galicia template.

Our new home kit. And I just got my first season ticket too!

Personally, I think this is one of the best strips our club has produced in a long time (excluding the sponsors logo of course - why don't they remove the black?!?!?!)

Because if they did, it wouldn't be as prominent. ;)

Our new shirt features a 'colour' sponsor's logo – for the first time unless I'm mistaken, save for the all red IBC logo in the nineties – and the general opinion seems to be it would have looked a lot better on the shirt in just black or white. But naturally sponsors want their branding to be as prominent as possible on our polyester rags.

I think the new Rangers shirt looks rather splendid, by the way. Hopefully you'll be suitably attired as you take to your new seat. :)

Of course ;). Nevertheless, it is one the most hideous logos out there. They actually trialled it without the black a few seasons ago (on both Rangers/Celtic strips) and it looked much much better.

I agree though. It is a fantastic strip.

Now for the start of the new season and Champions League football!!!

As our new sponsor is a betting company, we aren't putting the sponsor's logo on kiddie shirts. Anything below XL Boys size is beautiful black and amber, unsullied by commercial interests.

Thing is, the dainty Miss Jaffa Cake generally buys a kids shirt, as they fit her just as well as a proper girl's shirt – meaning she's going to get her hands on sponsor-free togs. I'm well jealous, I can tell you.

Meanwhile, in back of the shirt news – Michael Owen will wear the number 7 shirt vacated by winking winger Cristiano Ronaldo. Important news for those of us sad enough to worry about this sort of thing.

Arsenal not buying any new players yet again...at least there's rumors of Ade/Ebuoe leaving somehow thats good news for me.

I think both kits are lacking. The Hull kit looked great last season.
And the Rangers kit reminds of MLB pull over jerseys from the 70's and early 80's. Plus that embossed(for lack of a better term) checkerboard pattern doesn't aid anything.

OOooopssss I forgot to hand umbrellas before I rained on your parades soory fellas...

Adebayor and Terry - one bag of nasty attitude there.

Tevez - for me his best game in a Manchester United shirt was the semi-final against Barcelona at the Nou Camp - he managed to channel his sometimes headless chicken energy. Not bothered by the talk now, he put the effort in while he was there. It'll be interesting to see him next season.

M Owen + Owen H - praying to the Gods of Football that they stay fit, asking a bit much though. May need to sacrifice a goat or two.

Who will get Crouch?

Cheers,
OW
