I am not doubting that Hamilton is a fantastic driver and one of the greatest ever, but he does not help himself in the way that he conducts himself with the press and the FIA.

From what I understand, Hamilton told the FIA that Trulli overtook him under the safety car. But in the radio clip On Youtube Hamilton said "I've let him through".

So why did he say to the FIA Trulli overtook him, whilst on the radio he said he let Trulli through.

That is why he was DQ'd.

I would question the advice being given to Lewis at the moment. As a driver I can imagine that it is difficult going against team directions.

Out of interest why was he told to discharge the KERS under the safety car?

The only thing I can think is normally under the safety car you would not thinking of using KERS, you would not need to go fast! But on the last lap of the race you will not be using it under the safety car or during the warm-down lap so that would mean turning up in Parc Ferme with a fully loaded KERS system, which would not go down too well if a marshall or mechanic dot zapped.

Thats the only explanation I can think of, they wanted an empty KERS when he got to the garage.

Just seen the footage on the 10 'o' clock news. Trulli fell off the track, Hamilton looked like he slowed down to let him through. This just shows that there needs to be further opening of the radio frequencies (I know there was talk of opening it up fully), if only to the race directors over a secure frequency.

What you guys think of the new team?

Also i though it was BS Lewis got disqualified... Also 2 best teams did not get any points.

Oh and cars look ugly, i like the old once better...

To call Brawn GP a new team is a slight misconception. They have grown out of Honda who had one of the largest chassis development budgets for the 2009 season. Couple that with the excellent Merc engine and they where bound to be very quick.

How can Lewis' DQ be BS? It has been proven that he and the team lied to the stewards. If you lied to your boss of the police and it was subsequently proven you lied then you would expect to get in trouble, yes?

How can the 2 best teams not get any points? Surely Brawn is the best team (so far in 2009) and they got a 1-2. This season will shake up Formula One fans with the notion that the 'best' teams may not win all the time. MacLaren and Ferrari spent far too much of last year developing their 2008 car for the championship battle, whilst teams like Honda worked for well over a year on the 2009 so the two 'best' teams have probably traded short term gain for a long term loss and with the testing ban it will be very hard for the to catch up.

The new cars look ugly? Yeah I suppose the front wing does, but I like the simplicity of the rest of the car.

EDIT: The team manager who was with Hamilton in the stewards meeting at Australia appears to have left the team.

Have you guys heard the latest news?

There is the prospect of the FIA handing the matter over to the World Motor Sport Council for further examination. The WMSC have the power to suspend Hamilton from future races, or even disqualify him from the championship.

I think it would've been better to just fine McLaren as this is the teams fault, kicking him out is going to be very disappointing, as he is such a huge part of Formula One now, he is arguably the Tiger Woods of F1, although he may not be that good yet.

lol pip pip.

maybe they are just sick of seeing Hamilton's dad in the pits.

You can blame MacLaren as much as you like, but from the FIA statement:

"The race director specifically asked Hamilton whether he had consciously allowed Trulli to overtake. Hamilton insisted that he had not done so."

Even if MacLaren had told Hamilton to lie, it is his own stupid fault that he did lie. I think this case, again, highlights the lack of integrity within the MacLaren team.

I completely agree with Hamilton's disqualification, but I'd like it to end now.

It's done, it doesn't need to go any further. He lied and now he's been punished with what could potentially change the outcome of the championship (it has only just started, remember).

In other news, third in practise is OK. Weather is ominous though.

This should play into the hands of the Brawns and Lewis - if only because of their drivers. IMO these 3 drivers are the best in the field in the wet.

The only problem is that the Brawns have never run in the wet before so it is a bit of a lottery....

And I think Rubens needs a gbx change so that will put him back 5 places.

Had they followed the rules they wouldn't have been DQ'd.

The two best teams did get points. I don't know if you noticed or not but there are two new "best teams"... ;)

HUZZAH FOR JARNO!!!

Well McLaren suspended their Sporting Director, Dave Ryan, and admitted that both he and Lewis Hamilton gave false testimony to the stewards.

The Melbourne stewards also slapped Vettel with a 10-spot grid penalty for colliding with Kubica. I don't often agree with Bernie, but in this case I agree with his comments that Vettel was unjustly penalized. Kubica had plenty of opportunity to pass down the road and it was his own "red mist" that caused the accident.

I swear with all these penalties I think it's getting pointless to even have a race weekend. Just put all the car numbers in a spinning ball and pull them out one at a time to determine the order. It would save billions and still get the same results.

Sounds like Hamilton's mistake was listening to his Sporting Director...hopefully nothing more than foolishness on the part of Lewis. I don't think he should see further punishment, but this should not be allowed to become a pattern.

Leaving lie-gate to one side now.

The GP starts at 17:00 local time and will run for 1:30 or so, (if it rains maybe longer) according to weather-forecast.com the sun sets in Kualalumpur at 18:20 tomorrow, hmmm!

Yeah, I have a feeling the SD was one of the main instigators for all the crap that's been happening to F1 over the last few years.

Anyway.
48 minutes until the coverage starts!
:)

Hamilton was silly to think that the information wouldn't come out in the end, but you could understand why if he was told by the sporting director. Still all very very sllly by McLaren.

Massa out in Q1. The commentators finally picked up on the odd sounds and peaking heard on the long straight. Perhaps a technical error. Although Kimi wasn't far off from being knocked out either.

Well done Button.

Why were they saying Barrichelo would be dropped 5 places?
