The FIA published their 2010 calendar today. 19 rounds, which I believe either is a record or ties a recent record.

Montreal returns (pending an agreement reached with Bernie) and South Korea is the latest new Championship round.

You'd think adding races would drive up the cost and therefore counter efforts to reduce overall costs... Sarcasm aside, maybe the profits from those races offset travel costs? Maybe Bernnie needed to add an additional race to cover "loss" from reducing Canada's fee next year?

Well it does add costs, but it also adds revenues (sanctioning fees, more prize money, additional sponsors and additional sponsor exposure which increases the amounts they're willing to pay).

Personally, 19 races is awesome. The more the merrier!

on a separate note, is it known if next year they will get rid of the 'illegal-but-legal' diffusers? They served their purpose, so can we go back on the "lower downforce=more passing" track?

I expect that would require a change to the F1 Technical Regulations and are any such changes planned for the 2010 season?

I think F1 should consider allowing more advanced underfloor defusers, as is used in GP2. GP2 racing has been insanely close this year at times and I've really enjoyed the past two seasons now that SPEED broadcasts the longer Feature Race as opposed to the Sprint.
 
Now both Eccelstone and Di Montezemallo are saying Briatore's ban was too excessive. :rolleyes: Their good-old boy network is making me sick.
 
Yes, Romain Grosjean spun and hit the wall at turn 17 causing them to red flag the first practise session. According to Autosport, the media centre erupted with applause. :D
 
Oh dear.... :D

ING may have been leaving at the end of this season but it's a far bigger blow to Renault for them to pull out now. It'll only heighten any doubts of potential sponsors.

Am watching SPEED's coverage of Session 2 Practice and they noted there are rumors that Fernando Alonso was the "Witness X" who evidently was present for the discussions and gave damning evidence against Renault.

One wonders that, if Alonso is "Witness X", will Briatore put him in his sights, as well as Piquet?

And if it is proven true that Alonso was present - perhaps even implicitly involved - in the decision, how does this affect is reported deal with Ferrari?

UPDATE: I also see that Renault renewed their commitment to staying in both Formula One and motorsports in general, so I suppose the conspiracy theories will start that is why the FIA essentially let them off the hook with the suspended ban in return for them agreeing to stay.
 
Well they say "God is an Englishman" and he certainly seems determined to have JB win the title this year. He picked himself up this race, but he still benefitted from brake troubles eliminating Webber from the race and the championship and hobbling Vettel enough that he could only stay one position in front of him. And Button's own brake issues were not enough to allow Reubens to close and pass.

Had it been one more lap, the story would have been different regarding Rubens. However that one place difference wouldn't have affected things much...

As i understand it they are illegal next year. Ross Brawn originally took modified rules to the FIA which would have eliminated this years loop hole, as his version of the rules were discarded he exploited the FIAs version.

All i want is less off the track action next season.
 
To be honest it was Vettel's own fault for speeding in the pitlane and running over the chicane. I think Rubens may of caught Jenson eventually, but how could he pass him on that track unless Jensons brakes went completely in which case you would hope not to be collected in the spin.

The "Silly Season" refers to the general time period when driver contracts for the following year are negotiated. All the various permutations and possibilities can get a bit silly.

Usually, the final driver line-ups for each team are announced around the Italian Grand Prix. However, with new teams coming into Formula One, one team leaving the sport (BMW) and situations like Ferrari where they have seven drivers under contract for two race seats, this year most teams have not announced their 2010 driver line-ups as of yet. So the "Silly Season" is especially chaotic ("silly") this year.

I wonder how well Kimi does from all this. His contract with Ferrari for 2010 was said to be worth close to $50 million so I guess McLaren is picking that up?
