You're gonna have to stop calling him "The Monster". It sounds like you're mocking him by giving him an ironic nickname, like calling a massive guy "Tiny". ;)

Heh..... I didn't make it up. That's his nick from before he was on the Leafs.

You mean like this guy (I know him). He legally changed his name to "Tiny Ron". That's his full name..... no last name anymore.

Well there's no official report that says you need to stop calling him The Monster, but have you noticed that more and more newspapers are calling him Gustavsson now instead of The Monster? It's like people don't refer to Bargnani 'Il Mago' anymore either.

And why wouldn't they? Gustavsson's SV% in 2011 is around 82%. :p

You're right.....I guess I just haven't noticed. I hope he comes back from the Marlies a better goalie...... Reimer got shelled tonight in Buffalo. We never friggin' play well in Buffalo.*sigh*

Oh yeah......Gustavsson's SV% is actually .890.

And the game wasn't even on NHL Network today. At least they showed Coach's Corner. I had to put up with the Stars @ Flyers game:rolleyes:
;)

As difficult as I find it to follow the Leafs where I live (not so much follow, but actually see games), it must be near impossible where you are. My brother lives there too, and he gave up on even following them. (He is, however, going to skip work and watch the Super Bowl with some friends on Monday morning.:p)

He hasn't played that bad all year, but his play in 2011 so far (just 2 games, and both are after coming back from an injury, mind you) he has played atrocious enough to be sent back for "conditioning".

NHL and NBA games start at around 11:30 AM here, so I can't actually watch games unless I go home, get on the interwebz, and search out some streams! Usually I don't even bother. I'll just watch the video highlights.....same video summaries you'd see on the news. Actually, I do that at work. :D

I do get to see many of the goals scored by the Leafs, and some of the ones that get by our goaltenders. That's good. Now, if you asked me about our defence, all I can go by is our team GAA!!

Dam! Calgary's streak is over at 6 =(

At least they got a point, and it was a pretty intense shootout

thats such a load of ********.

savard's career is pretty much over mostly due to the concussion from the hit by matt cooke. he didn't get suspended.

paille gets 4 games for that? it wasn't even that bad of a hit. this league is such a joke

Look it's hockey not ballroom dancing. Hits are gonna happen and thats life. Am I sitting here whining about the fact we have lost Sid and Gino from hits? NO. The hits on Sid where BS..oh well move on . The last fatal blow to Malkin was a complete fluke and just a wrong place wrong time incident.

To be honest...we play better hockey with out those two

How many athletes have had careers cut short by concussions?

1. Big E.
2. Jeff Courtnall
3. Michel Goulet
4.Steve Young

At some point, players must be responsible. I know these sports are contact sports and injuries are inevitable and unavoidable, but either make the diagnosis more intensive and recovery longer, or make the punishment so severe that the only way someone gets a concussion is a freak accident.

We cannot make the boards out of foam or outlaw AstroTurf, but there must be major changes soon; I mean we are now seeing children getting concussions from sports-what will it take for someone to stand up and take serious action?

My guess is that we can add Savard to that list after the announcement yesterday. Interesting the Savard calls it a clean hit and Hunwick has called him a few times since. No one wants to end someones career regardless how it happened.

going to the bruins-canadiens game tomorrow night! should be a great one

lets go black and gold

Open question-

Could the NHL make any hit from behind or unnecessary hit(those hits after a puck leaves the stick or while a player is gliding through the zone) a match penalty and 5 game suspension ? We can't stop those open ice hits or hard, solid checks to the shoulder. But, if we make hitting someone in a completely helpless position unacceptable, regardless of outcome, hitter, hittee or rap sheet, wee can at least diminish one aspect of dangerous play.

I pray it doesn't take another Bill Masteron incident to force change.

I really don't know what could be done to stop these hits. The players need to have more respect for each other. Maybe they need unguaranteed contracts, like in the NFL. That way, a player would perhaps think twice before doing something that could injure a guy and take food off of his family's plate.

They put stop signs on the back of the sweaters just below the neck in the kiddie leagues in Canada.

@surely-

You gonna miss Beauchemin?

Nope. He just couldn't perform at the level he played at in Anaheim. At the time he was signed, it was a good signing. Who knew that he just couldn't step up? Burke did a good job on that trade. We got a promising defensive prospect (Jake Gardiner), who was the target of the trade. Lupul was a salary dump by Anaheim (to offset Bauch's salary), but perhaps that guy could get back to the way he played a few years ago. He was in a diminished role in Anaheim, so maybe with more minutes and PP time, he could score. And we got a 4th rounder. I'm actually surprised that he was able to get that much for him....I figured a 2nd rounder at the most.

Maybe we need to put signs that have dollar signs with Xs through them, to signify lost money if you hit the guy ....

I have a feeling that something will come out of the GM meetings coming up-I am sure by now peter chiarelli has some ideas and I bet Ray Shero is pondering some too.

well that was the best game i have ever been to. what a ****ing game

No ****... I haven't seen six guys in the box since the old "Bullies" days:D
Old school hockey at it's best;)
Go Flyers...

Yeah, that was amazing. 187 total penalty mins . Campbell got into it at the end and gave that one guy a good beating.

Not extremely well played but high energy and goal scoring. That's what we need see.

with like a minute left in the game, they showed a guy in the stands holding up a sign saying "Old Time Hockey" on the video board. everyone in the place went absolutely nuts. :D
