He tried to nonchalantly raise his elbow and give him a shot with it. He was trying to make it seem like it wasn't deliberate.

It wasn't a shoulder check- he didn't lead with his shoulder. He wasn't trying to just bump him. He raised his arm and elbowed the guy in the head while trying to make it look innocent by not looking directly at Umberger during the play.

What a jackass.

You need to take your homer-glasses off.

First, I agree this is a hit to the head and I have no problem with the suspension.

I watched this a number of times and I think that he's trying to elbow him. But, with Umberger going backwards and his legs compressing it lowers his head. At 40 seconds in it looks like Marchand is going to hit him vaguely in the shoulder (but, admittedly more in the back) and it gets him in the head.

Either way -- the guy has been a little ambitious and got what he deserved.

Even with crappy refs, a bunch of whiny little bruins, some of the best acting I've seen in a long time, and being short-handed we still managed to beat the Bruins.

The NHL has fined Nashville Predators forward Patric Hornqvist $2,500 but decided not to suspend him for his elbow to the head of Boston Bruins rookie forward Tyler Seguin in Thursday night's game.

The Predators announced the league's decision via its official Twitter feed.

Hornqvist got a five-minute major for elbowing and a game misconduct. Seguin stayed in the game.

The fine was the maximum allowed via supplemental discipline in the league's collective bargaining agreement.

So much for consistency. If Marchand gets 2 games, I don't see how this guy escapes with nothing more than a petty fine.

$2,500????

Christ, that's like a $20 parking ticket to you and me.

Why fans continue to support this 'entertainment' is beyond me.

Oh well, any escape from the ***** in the World is welcome, I guess??

^^^^^Huge, self-deprecating closeted fan.

I bet you paint your face blue and white when you go to Leaf games watch the Leafs on TV.

:D

You are so wrong, it is not even funny. :p

Back in the Original Six day, I used to go to The Gardens, and join the 7:00 PM rush for standing room behind the (then) Greens or the Greys.

Expansion killed the game for me. Sorry. :(

Ok Surely - B's Leaf's Saturday. Hopefully your boys play cleanly. I wouldn't want them to hurt our new defensive star ;)

^^^^ <ignored> :D

I actually won't be able to watch until tomorrow night by the looks of things. So, I'll be avoiding the forums and news until then.

It's hard to imagine how the elbow to the head could have been more intentional.

exactly how I feel...this crap is getting ridiculous in the NHL. It seems the more the NHL attempts to crackdown the more the thugs come out of the woodwork. That being said the crackdown has been a joke. As usual G.B. is all talk and no show. Seems the Governors meeting has become nothing more than an expensive golf outing for them at the players and fans expense.

haa haaa....hell even the Leafs are managing that tonight...5 to 1 LOL and another game with a Rask temper tantrum. Thats some classy hockey right there.

Your new defensive star was a -1 tonight.:D

5-2 Leafs win over the big bad Bruins.

Rask is quite the team player.

Looks like James Reimer is going to be a star in this league.

So when I read a blog today saying that new concussion protocol requires a player to go into a nice quiet room for 15 minutes, he was half kidding. Sadly he wasn't-

Am I the only one who finds this insulting ? How does this help? Why the hell wasn't this done before? Basically giving a guy a timeout in the corner and turning off the lights and putting him in a room alone only helps after the fact-we need to address the acts.

I think it's a joke. It does nothing to reduce the number of head shots in the league.

What's to stop a goon from targeting a star player with a head shot when he knows that the star will have to sit in the dressing room for 15 minutes....that's practically an entire period.

Surely
Sorry for the off-topic post, but I worked ECAC college hockey championships this weekend. Yale is scary good.:D There ranked number one in country.
I even got a picture of my son rolling with the Hoby Baker;). A good time was had by all.:)

Well it looks like Cooke is going to be the talk again. I didn't see the game tho.

Looked like an " Intent to Injure" to me. What do you think? 10 games?

I say he gets 10 games.

I can also see the Pens putting him on waivers or not playing him anymore. It would sure make Mario look like a huge hypocrite if he kept him in the lineup......

I stopped caring about hockey after their strike. Just couldn't get back into it

Yay.

well apparently the bruins suck. lets see if they can turn it around before the habs game. probably not though. julien needs to go, we need a coach who is competent.

I am thinking more like the Pens are going to have to get rid of him. I like Cooke but he should know better. Its like he has the devil on his shoulder and cant help him self.
