We were talking a week or two ago about realignment due to the Winnipeg Jets (which, I've heard will be the name of the team due to public pressure).

I just heard an interview of Ken Holland (executive VP and GM of the Red Wings) on PrimeTime Sports on the FAN590 (Sirius 157). He said that Red Wings management and ownership would love it if the Wings were relocated to the East. He said it would be better for the players and better for the fans (less West Coast late starting away games). I don't think he specifically said that they were pushing for it, but I was under the impression that they've expressed their wishes to the NHL.

------------

So the Leafs decided to hire two new assistant coaches (Scott Gordon and Greg Cronin) to replace their current assistants. Basically, without actually saying it, they've decided to blame these two guys for the team's lack of success the past couple of seasons.......instead of blaming Ron Wilson.....you know, the HEAD coach. Burke did make sure to put the responsibility of hiring these two coaches on Wilson's shoulders. He said that Wilson was the one who interviewed them and hired them. If things don't start working out this season, I think it'll finally be time for Wilson to get the boot (he has not been offered a contract extension yet).

So now the Leafs have an all-American GM and coaching staff! It's a conspiracy!;)
I have said it once and I will repeat it-your problem has been and will always be Ron Wilson-Burke hasn't gotten rid of him because they are friends. Until someone (MLSE) breaks the bond, you will go nowhere. You guys proved at the end of the year that you are getting close and that you have players who are getting better. Now you need to get a coach who can take you to the next level.

I wonder if it is the same jersey-

It's not....in the movie, there was no name or number on the back.

This season is Wilson's make it or break it season with the Leafs. Burke made it pretty clear at the press conference announcing the two new assistant coaches that these guys are Ron Wilson's choices. He said that Wilson interviewed and hired them. If the special teams don't improve and the team doesn't start winning, Burke will fire Wilson.

Wilson is up for a contract extension.....the upcoming season will be the final year of his contract. Typically, if a team isn't planning on firing the coach, the extension is pretty much automatic. Not this time. Burke has pretty much stated that Wilson has to give him a reason to offer the extension to him.

Wilson will be on a very short leash. If the Leafs go 2-8 or something like that to start the season, I think he'll be gone.

It begins......

Jeff*Carter has been told he's been traded from the Philadelphia Flyers to the Columbus Blue Jackets. In exchange for Carter, the Flyers are expected to receive Jakub*Voracek, plus first and third round draft picks.

And:

Sources say Robyn*Regehr has been asked to waive his no-move clause and accept a trade to the Buffalo Sabres.

Winnipeg has named their coach as well. It's Claude Noel, who was the Moose head coach.

I think we'll see some decent action today and tomorrow. July 1st will be interesting.....

Now I just heard on tsn radio that the Flyers have traded Mike Richards to Los Angeles for Brayden Schenn and Wayne Simmonds.

Wow Philly!

Fire sale in Philly. Did they pick up any goalies or do they think they're ok in that area lol. :p

They are about to give Bryzgalov a $7 million per year deal, so they needed to get cap space. I didnt think they would move both Carter AND Richards! There was a report that the Panthers got Versteeg from the Flyers as well, but that was unfortunately not true, per Bob McKenzie.

I was wondering why all the movement but none of it involving a goalie. Starting to make a little sense but wow those are very aggressive moves.

BIG DAY FOR THE FLYERS!

Flyers trade Richards to LA for Schenn and Simmonds, and they also traded Carter to Columbus for a 1st round draft pick, 3rd round draft pic, and Voracek...

Now rumors are coming in that Stamkos is headed to Philly!

Oh and the Flyers signed Byrzgalov for 9 years @$51million

^^^We know.;)

Oh I didn't notice the Bryzgalov signing. Nine years is crazy for a goalie IMO.

Stamkos ain't goin' nowhere. He tweeted yesterday that they're close to a deal in TB. And if Yzerman trades Stamkos, he should be fired and banished from the league.

Schedules are out!? Philly @ Boston for the home opener. At least the Philly fans get to see the cup. see how I did that :)

Winnepeg is on the schedule 4 times or the Bs.
Hopefully I'm not just confused at what I'm reading.

http://espn.go.com/nhl/team/schedule/_/name/bos/boston-bruins

That's what it looks like. Here's the Winnipeg team page: http://espn.go.com/nhl/team/_/name/wpg/winnipeg

I guess they're going to stay in the SouthEast division for now. I'd imagine that the NHl will realign things the following season. No way Winnipeg stays in the SW.

I like the Moose as the team's name. :D

The Jets failed, and you want to distance yourself from that.

Plus, all the old shirts are immediately passé.

Bean-counters like that part. ;)

Wow:rolleyes: I don't have a real problem with the Richard's/Carter trade;)
The thing that bugs me is the nine years for a goalie:confused:

Richards had some locker room issues with the coach and Carter never showed up the playoffs;) Will see how they do in the draft;)

Peace

Who would you give the C to now?

What do ppl think will happen with Smyth? Will he get his wish? With today's trades, I think yes-they have no deal with Richards's massive contract and will need to free up a little space

oh and if he ends up in Calgary-I don't think the reception he gets when he is with other teams will be the same one

I thought Pronger should of got it from the get go ;) Usually captain's lead by example, and Richards never did in my opinion

Peace

Is "Moose" really up for consideration for Winnipeg's new name? I admit I've only been following that story tangentially. That's horrible, if so. I mean, I'm naturally no fan of anything called the Jets, but that's better than Moose.

Anyone catch the NHL awards last night?

Let's see.....

I think Pronger will probably get the C. It was mostly his locker room anyway- now it'll be all his. There were two groups in there. Oh look, the Flyers have five goalies on their roster now.:p

I think Smyth will get his wish to be traded to the Oilers. cuestakid, why did you say Calgary? The question is: will he sob like a little girl again at the press conference?:D

I think that this league can't learn from other GM's mistakes. 9 years for a goalie is N-V-T-S nuts (if you can guess the movie reference, I'll buy you a Coke. No googling). So did he get the no-games-in-Winnipeg clause that he wanted?;)

Yes, Moose is an option as a name. It is/was the name of the AHL team that this ownership group owns and played in Winnipeg until all of this happened. They were called the Manitoba Moose, and they're moving to St. John's, Newfoundland for next season (which is where the St. John's Maple Leafs played until the Leafs moved them to Toronto as the Marlies). From what I've heard/read, the ownership group has a lot of pressure on them to call the team the Jets. Whether it's the Winnipeg Jets or the Manitoba Jets remains to be seen.

I didn't catch the NHL awards laszzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Okay, I'm awake again. I did see on the news that Corey Perry was in Santa Monica today with the hardware he won last night posing for pictures in his Ducks sweater. I would have gone if I would have known. Why wasn't he posing for pics in Anaheim?
