Ugh. I can not stand Texas' pompous attitude...

No kidding. "We are the Joneses", eh? He might want to check his facts, at least as far as football is concerned.

Despite all the 10 win seasons and all the other success, UT has won the Big 12 title in football twice in the past ten years and only three times since the conference was founded. By comparison, LSU and Florida have both won the SEC three times since 2000, and both have two BCS titles. Alabama has one conference title and one BCS title.

Overall, I'd say UT has a great athletics program. Their baseball program has been good for a long time, and their basketball program has been very good in recent years. They have one of the highest student populations in the country, and I have no doubt they are one of the most popular brand names in college athletics. But we all know football is king in the state of Texas. So, you might want to consider winning some more titles before calling yourself the team that everyone else is trying to play catch up with.

As far as going independent: I hate all these teams going independent. I have long believed the BCS should ditch the Notre Dame rule and only award spots to teams in a conference. Being in a conference gives you a better shot at a BCS spot anyway. Notre Dame has to be in the top 8 (or is it 12? I forget) to get a slot. You can be #20 or unranked and win your conference you are in. See the Big East and ACC recently for examples.

^^^ Deloss Dodds only sees things in terms of dollar signs. Titles only matter insofar as they help the program make money. The fact is, Texas makes more of it than any other athletic program in the country. I think that's where he's coming from.

Truth spoken here for sure

College athletics are big business for the schools
Fans care about titles and bragging rights far more than administrators and boards do

Yep. Winning is a by-product of making money for most athletic directors, and from that perspective, Dodds and UT-Austin are the kings (or the Joneses, if you will).

It make me nauseous just thinking about it, but sometimes you just have to tip your cap.

This is sadly true. I figured Texas made the most money off of marketing their brand. I was going to point out that being in the BCS title game generated lots of money, but it seems it makes the same amount as all the other BCS games. So, really, they only need to be successful enough to make an at-large BCS bid. Of course, if they don't make it to a BCS, they lose a lot of money. The highest payout for a non-BCS bowl is $4 mil. The BCS games pay $18 mil. However, I suppose all of this takes a backseat to the marketing machine.

TCU wasn't very sharp for the first two and a half quarters, or so, but the cream rose to the top in the end. Credit June Jones and SMU for putting up a fight, but in the end they just couldn't hang with TCU's superior athletes.

This game was a little weird. Even though the schools and conferences are on a similar level, and even though there's a rivalry element, this game felt a lot like a BCS school against a non-AQ school, where the "little" school punches the "big" school in the mouth, and hangs around for a while, but eventually wears down.

On a different note, what are everyone's thoughts on Boise-Oregon State? I have a weird feeling the Beavers are going to pull the upset. No idea why...

I think we see Boise control the whole game and pull out a win, but Oregon State hangs with them and never quite let's Boise pull away. I say Boise by 5.

Being in London for the past 2 months, I am sorta out of touch

My Dawgs are still undefeated and leading the SEC pack, right?

Good luck tonight steve2112

^^Georgia could have really made some noise this year. That A.J. Green suspension is hurting them A LOT more than anyone thought it would; they were one or two plays away last week from ending the hype that is Ryan Mallett...oh well.

On a lighter note, anyone else think the Iowa throwback jersey's today are SAH-WHEAT!? :D

I just want to thank the NCAA for continuing the A.J. Green suspension for this game. I feel 100% confident in predicting that the Bulldogs will win this game. :D

Anyway, if our O-line can figure out how to block somebody again, we have a chance. Otherwise, it could get ugly. It's really frustrating, too, since the offensive line was supposed to be a strength this year. And Dan Mullen needs to remember that the passing game is not our strength.

And I am just as confident that the Bulldogs will lose this game too

Not sure our defense will challenge you all that much :(

I hate looking towards next year without even having a chance to watch a game yet this year :(

Somebody just beat the Gators so the year won't be a total loss
I hate the Gators™

That Texas - UCLA score looked surreal to me

Wish I could watch be watching the Bama/Arkansas game right now
Alas, in London they think football is played with a round ball :(

Priceless pic. If I were anyone involved with UT athletics, I would never put UCLA on the schedule again. At least it wasn't 66-3 again. :)

Bama's defense pulls them out of the fire again. And probably kills any chance of Mallet winning the Heisman.

So much for Texas' arrogance in athletics
Sorry dmr727, that's gotta hurt

And good for 'Bama
I like anything that causes Bobby Petrino to gnash his teeth ;)
