Don't be surprised that Cam Newton will be off the team within two weeks. And this could lead to a scenario where we could end up with Boise State versus TCU at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, AZ playing for the BCS Championship--gee, didn't we see this matchup one season ago at exactly the same stadium?

More on the Newton story

Two sources who recruit for Mississippi State said that Cecil Newton and his son, quarterback Cam Newton, admitted in separate phone conversations to a pay-for-play plan while Newton was being recruited late last year.

Mississippi State compliance officials relayed the alleged conversations to Southeastern Conference compliance officials in January, according to two other sources close to the football program.

Prior to Newton's commitment to Auburn, one of the recruiters said Cecil Newton told him it would take "more than a scholarship" to bring his son to Mississippi State, a request the source said the school would not meet. Cecil Newton also referred the recruiter to a third person that would provide more specifics, the source said.

After Newton committed to Auburn, another source said an emotional Cam Newton phoned another recruiter to express regret that he wouldn't be going to Mississippi State, stating that his father Cecil had chosen Auburn for him because "the money was too much."

Edit: I see this is basically the same story as above... oh well

While the cheating scandal may not affect Auburn, the money trail will
Not sure "no comment" can be considered a viable strategy at this point

Boise St. and TCU will never play against each other for the championship, as long as there is the BCS.

Auburn plays Alabama and may lose, if not will. Then Oregon could lose to Oregon State in the civil war. TCU would get a chance to play in the national championship before Boise St. Either way it won't be TCU vs Boise St.

Boise St. and TCU will never play against each other for the championship

It's unlikely to happen, but it could if...

November 20
Stanford loses at Cal
Ohio State loses at Iowa
Wisconsin loses at Michigan

November 26
Auburn loses at Alabama
Oregon loses to Arizona

November 27
Michigan St. loses at Penn St.
Oklahoma St. loses to Oklahoma
LSU loses at Arkansas

December 4
Oregon loses at Oregon St.
Nebraska loses to Oklahoma (Big 12 Championship)
Auburn loses to Florida (SEC Championship)

Other games that could factor in if all those other things don't happen: Georgia at Auburn (11/13), Oregon at Cal (11/13), Nebraska at Texas A&M (11/20)

On the Cam Newton front...check this out (from about noon EST). Now Finebaum is a notorious Bama homer, so anything he says about Auburn has to be taken with a gigantic grain of salt, but...

ESPN Dallas' Ian Fitzimmons is reporting that within 3-4 hours the NCAA is going to suspend Cam Newton.

If you read my post it said it wouldn't but later I said it could. The chance isn't that great.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see them play for the National Championship but I don't see it happening. I live in Utah so any kind of BCS busting is good news for me.

Looks like the Cam Newton suspension rumor was bogus.

You did? Where?

Maybe I didn't say it exactly, but I believe I implied it in ways. Overall I do not believe or think or anything that TCU will play Boise St. in the National Championship game. However, I do think that it would be good to see them and I definitely feel the one of those deserves a shot in the in title game, preferably TCU.

Florida would kick the **** out of Boise.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

No...seriously...HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Florida?!? The team that lost three in a row, including a stinker to MSU, would kick the **** out of Boise???

That's one of the funniest goddamn things I've ever seen in this thread. Thanks! :D

Even though the Gators are playing better now that they have some of their criminals back on the team, I doubt they would be able to overcome a complete team like Boise that is clicking on all cylinders.

I hate the Gators™

Seriously Mr 11 arrests in 7 months?

Ya, Miss State is terrible at 7-2 while having Auburn by their balls and almost beating them.

Florida has lost to three teams in the top 20, Boise State hasn't played 3 Top 20 teams in the last 2 years..

Florida's offense sucks. I don't think they would be able to keep up with Kellen Moore and Co. And Florida's defense? Anyone who gives up 30+ to LSU is bad.

We might get a chance to find out, though, if the Gators can win out and beat Auburn/LSU in the SEC Championship. It would be nice to see Boise rape the Gators in New Orleans.

I didn't say their opponent was terrible, only that the two teams' performance was a stinker.

You're dreaming if you think Florida is a better team than Boise - Oregon is, Auburn and TCU probably are, but Boise is a legit top-5 team right now, regardless of strength of schedule.

^^well said! :D

I'd really like to see Oregon's offense match up against TCU's defense. Auburn vs. Boise would be pretty nice as well as a defense 'optional' match up.

Boise St. is a legit team but they are too over hyped. They would lose to all the teams ahead of them.

Is that how we define overhyped now?

I thought that was the point of rankings, to more or less try and line the teams up in the order of who should win in head to head competitions. (Oregon should beat Auburn, Auburn should beat TCU, TCU should beat Boise State etc.)

How do you think Boise would stack up against the teams immediately behind them? That's the real question to ask if you think they might be overhyped.

Personally I don't know, I think Stanford would give them a run for their money, and possibly (maybe even probably) beat them. That being said, since we don't get a playoff, we really will never know.

All these other people were saying that they could beat anyone and should play for the National Championship. All I think is that yes, they are good, great, whatever, but kind of overrated.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see some more BCS busting but it should be TCU and not Boise St. Now TCU versus Boise St. might be interesting.

We had that last year, and it was NOT interesting. It certainly wouldn't be interesting a 2nd year in a row.

Non AQ BCS games are only interesting if the non-AQ goes toe to toe with a BCS powerhouse. (My opinion of course)

SLC

Ya we had it last year and it wasn't that great. Remember two years ago they played in the poinsettia bowl and it was a one point game. I agree a non BCS versus a BCS would be better.

Not to forget they will play each other next year as members of the MWC.

Seriously Mr 11 arrests in 7 months?

I am not proud of the Dawg's disciplinary issues
But I am proud that Coach Richt is addressing them

Solomon Patton - alcohol under 21
Handled internally
On the team

Matt Elam - alcohol under 21

Dontavius Jackson - alcohol under 21

Josh Parrish - alcohol under 21

Demetre Baker - alcohol under 21

Caleb King - failure to appear in court on a traffic charge
Suspended two games

Tavarres King - arrested in a traffic stop
