I believe that the Big 10 has had 11 teams for a while

Yes, the Big 10 has had 11 teams ever since Penn State joined, and it has been a mess for them. There have been lots of years (and this year is no exception) where they've had a shared conference title because everyone doesn't play everyone AND they have no conference championship game.

Notre Dame is in the conference for everything except football, right?

Nope. All of ND's other teams are in the Big East.

There is one team leaving after this season I think though.

No. The Big "10" is adding Nebraska next year to get to 12 teams. They will be splitting into divisions and adding a championship game next year.

I feel dumb.

Oh wow. This whole Wrigleyville thing is looking dumber and dumber. Wipe the egg off your face, ESPN clowns...

Only one end zone will be used at Wrigley Field on Saturday for the Illinois-Northwestern game because of safety concerns, the Big Ten announced Friday.

The east end zone is feet away from the right-field wall, and although there is padding, there was still concerns that injuries could take place. Northwestern coach Pat Fitzgerald had said he would have different game plans for the different end zones to avoid the possibility of injury.

When a team is on offense Saturday, it will be positioned to head to the west end zone.

Wow...that IS stupid.

The most stupidest idea I've ever seen in this thread - it even beats using graduation rates to break ties in conference standings. ;)

Congratulations, sir - you win the "Understatement of the Day" award. One free internet for you!

This game at Wrigley Field just sounds terrible. I don't care about those teams and it think it is bad.

Especially for the fans who have tickets near the endzone that won't be used. They won't be able to see any football the whole game.

Well, they can hope for a lot of interceptions and runbacks for touchdowns...

On a different note, A&M has sold 31,005 student tickets (supposedly a national record) for tomorrow's game against Nebraska. Looks like it might be the largest crowd in Kyle Field history with over 89,000 in attendance. The previous record was 88,253 in 2007 against Texas. Normal capacity is 82,600.

Should be fun.

If they sell over 31,000 student tickets then how many students do they have?

Just found the number for Fall 2010 enrollment: 49,129.

A funny stat I just read: The 31,005 students at the A&M game tomorrow is more than the total enrollment of Big 12 schools Iowa St, Kansas St, Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, Baylor, Oklahoma St, and Oklahoma.

Personally I think A&M is to big for enrollment but then again that was among the reason why I did not want to go there. UT was way to big. A&M was to big and I did not want to be part of the cult.

It makes me sad that TTU is trying to push for a huge enrollment as well... I liked being there when it was less than 30k.

As for another random funny fact about A&M. When they were expanding the statduim they had the everything designed and then one of the engineers said "don't the students sway at the game? Did we design for that?"
I want to say that was after it was done and they had to go back in and retrofit it to make sure it could take it. I always found that funny.

have to dig for it. It was something from one of my professors and it was a while ago. I just find it funny that it was something the designers failed to account for and it caused mass problems.
It is not something I was trying to make from of A&M for. It was used as an example in class that in designing you have to make sure you look for non standard factors that require additional designed. A&M student sections was one of them. They fail to account for the swaying of the standard that put a huge amount of stress on the structure.

Wow, that's huge. I knew A&M was big, but wow. And to think I was surprised by MSU hitting 19k. It was around 15k when I was there a little over 10 years ago. The funny thing is I almost went to LSU but it just seemed too crowded, but looking at it now, they are only about 6k ahead of us. I got curious and did some research on biggest enrollments and was a bit surprised. I had no idea Central Florida was that big.

Did anyone watch the Boise/Fresno game tonight?

As a longtime fan, I have to say that only scoring 3 points in the first quarter is really, really bizarre. It took the offense a few drives to get going, but we eventually found the groove.

But how about that defense?? It's the first time in 12 years that Fresno State has been shut out. After the game, Fresno coach Pat Hill had some pretty lofty praise for us. Saying we were the best team he has ever faced (including #1 USC in 2005).

We kicked your ass last time around when Boise was all uppity :D
Are you sure you want to smell like dawg-poo all season?

Ha ha!

I must admit, this game scares me a heckofa lot more than Va. Tech did this year.

I'm just concerned about our receivers for next year. Moore will be back (and likely won't throw four interceptions in the first half), but our star receiving duo will be gone. So who does Moore go to? A QB is only as good as his receivers...

But, I figure we'll still have a pretty strong team.

So, how does it feel to open the 2011 season against the National Champions?? ;):D

It is a shame that in a year where TCU and Boise have their best shot at the BCS Championship they will be shut out of the game by an Auburn team that will have to vacate their season shortly after the BCS game.

Overall it is a pretty weak slate of games this week

I'm still pulling for an Alabama win at the Iron Bowl, which should keep them out of Glendale.

Very well could happen. Nick Saban in not in a good mood, and if anybody can scheme to stop Newton, its him. Bama played Tebow tough every time. I too would like to see a Bama win, or a Gamecock win... or both! The Tide better have an eye on Fairley though. I hope the officials have a zero tolerance and eject him early.

that's correct, the original BIG 10 schools where large government land grants to midwestern states to expand higher education in the region. Penn state was not one of them.

How about those Badgers? if they had beaten MSU this year theyw ould be right up there with Auburn.

Boise and TCU being ranked so high is just unfair considering how weak their schedules are. I really don't care how badly Boise blows our Fresno. If they're gonna be ranked so high they need to beat real teams.

If they're gonna be ranked so high they need to beat real teams.

They can only beat the teams that will play them, and they are doing all they can to schedule "those" teams, like the Dawgs in 2011 and Ole Miss in 2014. Too often "those" teams are not willing to play Boise (travel, home and home arrangements, finances, etc), not the other way around. I agree their schedule is weak, but they have been consistent.

I still think it's complete bull$**t that the SEC didn't penalize Fairley after the Georgia game.

He should have been suspended at least a half, if not the entire game.

The Dawgs get to swat the "bees" in a rare night game between the hedges this year.
You gonna be there chris975d?
I've got my tickets and I am looking forward to working out our frustrations on the Trade School from North Avenue.
For everyone else, it will be on ESPN, but put the kids to bed early, cause it will be an ugly beat down. :)
