In my perfect world Fresno and Nevada wouldn't have accepted the MWC invitations, allowing BYU to make it's move official, then forcing Boise State to look for an invitation back to the WAC. When/if that happened TCU would then look at the WAC and rejoin making the WAC a 10 team football conference.

Likewise...the MWC apparently has thrown academic excellence criteria out the window by adding fresno in the name of football

quite pathetic by the MWC

Step away from the ledge...

But I like it here. :)

I've read that too, but as far as I could tell it was nothing more than a light discussion between MWC and CUSA folks.

But when you look at the alternative it was likely the best thing the league could have done.

Had the MWC not invited Fresno and Nevada it could have spelled the death of the MWC.

I love how Utah State is making all sorts of statements about how faithful they are to the WAC, meanwhile in the back rooms they've got to just be kicking themselves for not accepting the MWC invite.

Silly Aggies.

As far as I'm concerned, anyone that talks about academic excellence in the same context as college football is full of crap. It's all about the money - period.

**cough**UT "too good" for the SEC**cough**

Heh! :D I truly believe that if UT thought they could make more money in the SEC - they'd be there. I don't like it - I really don't - but we showed our true colors this off season. Not that I necessarily blame them, but as a fan, it bothers me.

I actually don't blame them for not wanting to go to the SEC, but I don't believe for one second that it's because of academics as much as it's about control. UT rules the roost in the Big X(II) and wanted a deal from the Pac-16 that let them do pretty much the same. In the SEC, they would be just another member. A very strong one, but an equal one. I don't think the Horns believe anyone is their equal (and athletically their often correct) and aren't about to give up the power they have. The argument that they will suffer academically from a move to the SEC is just a smokescreen.

I predict the final poll will not look anything remotely like this ;)

I think that is a safe bet :)

I still think people are underestimating how big the losses of Tim Tebow and Colt McCoy (among others) are for Florida and Texas, respectively. Plus, I am still waiting on OSU's Pryor to live up to the hype. I am a huge OU fan, but until Landry Jones and our O-line prove they can play on the road worth a hell, I think the Sooners are getting too much credit. The good thing is that the season will clear things up for us. Only 2 more weeks!!

My Utes didn't make the Top 25. :( It seems like every year Utah has to prove themselves on the field to work up the ladder when there's other teams that get the benefit of the doubt. Oh well, it's the nature of the beast.

It's too bad, but I think we have some serious potential. We open with 15th ranked Pitt and we also play Notre Dame in November. Because we play both BYU and TCU at home, we have serious potential to make a splash.

See you all September 2nd. :D

If Utah is undefeated at the end of September, they'll be ranked for sure.

It's just hard climb up the ladder if you don't start at the top.

Hard, yes - but not impossible.

From ESPN:

Since 1991, college football's national championship has come from outside the top 10 of the preseason Associated Press top 25 poll only four times -- Michigan was 14th in 1997, Oklahoma was 19th in 2000, Ohio State was 13th in 2002 and LSU was 14th in 2003.

If they're underrated after September 2nd they'll be ranked. It's just hard climb up the ladder if you don't start at the top.

I don't have to go out on a limb to say that the Utes probably won't be going undefeated this year, anyway, so that's sort of moot. And anyway, you guys will not be facing these issues anymore once Utah moves to the Pac-10, if indeed that still happens.

Colt McCoy might get cut by the Browns before his first NFL season even starts. Is there a laughing/crying emoticon on this board?

One of the big four college star quarterbacks drafted into the NFL in 2010 may not survive into the regular season. While Sam Bradford (Rams), Tim Tebow (Broncos) and Jimmy Clausen (Panthers) are assured of making their teams, former University of Texas standout Colt McCoy might need to prove himself in the Browns’ final two preseason games to make their roster.

According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, McCoy, a third-round pick in April, is among one of eight players “on the bubble” for Eric Mangini’s team. That includes fellow QB Brett Ratliff, and two young running backs, James Davis and Chris Jennings.

Et tu, dmr727? Just last year you called Cart the "best passer in UT history."

That doesn't mean he'll be worth a crap in the pros. It doesn't matter to me because Texas isn't in the NFL. All I care about is how a player helps Texas win games, and I'm pretty sure Colt was pretty successful by that standard.
