That doesn't mean he'll be worth a crap in the pros. It doesn't matter to me because Texas isn't in the NFL. All I care about is how a player helps Texas win games, and I'm pretty sure Colt was pretty successful by that standard.

Ahh, fair enough. I might call McCoy one of the better players in UT history (well no, I wouldn't, but he certainly had the numbers to make the argument) but not one of the best passers. But I guess that's just splitting hairs.

You know, our opinions probably aren't all that different from one another. I used some sloppy/lazy verbiage initially, and like the good Ag that you are, you zeroed in on it. ;) I was saying what I said based on his results, but I do agree that from a pure passing talent standpoint, there were far better Texas QBs than Colt.

Well it's finally game week. I'm predicting a few upsets to start the season (sorry, evilgEEk). I think...

  • Virginia Tech (+3) beats Boise St.
  • Oregon State (+13) beats TCU
  • SMU (+13) beats Texas Tech

Good news for dmr727 and all the other socal teasippers.

It's definitely good news! I'm also happy to see us growing some balls with regard to non-conference scheduling. These last few years have been pretty lame.

And yes, it's GAME WEEK! I love this time of year. :D

Wow, that's a bold prediction for SMU. Of course, Tech has a bunch of unknowns. I also didn't realize the spread on that Oregon State/TCU game was that big.

As long as this stays the same I will be a happy camper!!!!

I'll be happy as long as it's anybody BUT Bama. :) Sadly, I don't see anyone else in the conference capable of stopping the evil elephants.

Friggin' Tech. Every year that school can beat anyone, or lose to anyone. How many times have I seen them ruin our season, just to watch them get blasted by some directional school for midget amputees the following week.

Heh. That was what always baffled me about Tech and Mike Leach. They would beat a team like Oklahoma and then lose to say, UTEP. You know, those types of games that just make you say "WTF??"

I think Tuberville is going to have some growing pains this year, and I know I wouldn't want to put a new defense up against June Jones's offense in my first game. And yeah, they always lose to someone they shouldn't

I think Vegas is overcompensating for TCU playing at Cowboys Stadium. TCU should be very good again this year, but I think Oregon State might be the best team in the Pac-10. If they can ever learn how to play in September, they could really make some noise.

Hey, let's not get ahead of ourselves yet. The first game that is sure to be a barn burner is on Thusrday and it's #15 ranked Pitt vs unranked Utah. I predict a close game where Utah pulls away at the end. Utah-35, Pitt-24.

Also of note, I just picked up my student season tickets and I lucked out enough to get row 18.

Where is the game?

Is that good? At most stadiums I've been to, you can't see much of anything that close to the field.

What?

The game is at Rice Eccles Stadium (Utah), so it makes some interesting challenges for Pitt's opener. Not only is it a two time zone difference, but it is also much hier altitude. Pitt has the players to manage that, but it will be harder than they are used to. As for the seats, I am excited. One year I had row 15 and I loved it. The student section at Utah gets pretty crazy and it's exciting to be at the front of it.

Finally, Ki Yi is a Ute tribe war cry. It's part of the school song and is often said in anticipation of the upcoming 'battle.'

Sounds good. Congrats on the seats and good luck against Pitt. I suspect if the Utes can handle Pitt's running game, they'll win.

The what conference? And they thought the MWC had a bad TV deal.

Bold move. I wish A&M's pathetic administration had that kind of guts. BYU will be fine if their football deal is any good (which it has to be or else they never would have left). The WCC is stronger than the MWC in basketball (Gonzaga, St. Mary's) and none of the other sports generate much revenue, anyway, so I think this is actually better for them than going to the WAC would have been.

Poof! goes the MWC.

No kidding. All I can assume is that they are hoping to get picked up by the Big 12 in the next couple of years and not be tied to a contract.

The Little 10 won't be around in a couple of years. UT-Austin is going to see how bold BYU was and do the same, A&M and OU will go to the SEC and the rest of the league will merge with the remnants of the MWC.

Gameday! College football is back!

My wife and I already have the bar (and beer) all picked out to commemorate the event at 4:30pm. Woohoo! :)
