mscriv, you are more than welcome to root for the University of Texas. Don't let those ********s from A&M steer you any other way. ;)

I don't think I could root for another team. Maybe if they were in another conference, but I really couldn't root for any other SEC team. No, I'm not one of these idiots who start chanting "SEC! SEC!". In fact, I take great pleasure in seeing other SEC teams lose. Well, ok, maybe not Vandy, but I tend to root for them like you root for the kids in Special Olympics. See, every other team in the SEC seems to be highly annoyed by our little cowbells. So annoyed, in fact, that they have taken action against them three times and the vote has been 11-1 every time. So, screw 'em.

I really just can't root for another team, though. We have a 1-AA team here, and I really don't care. I did root for the Div. II team in the town I used to live in, mainly because they had a weird mascot, the Fightin' Okra. (Look it up) There are a few other teams I kind of root for because of odd reasons, often because of unusual nicknames or mascots. I like TCU because I think the Horned Frog is just weird. Oh yeah, and I won two national championships with them on NCAA Football. :D

^^^ I'm the same way. I don't have much conference allegiance beyond what I think Texas needs for SOS purposes. But sometimes things happen and I start rooting for certain schools. For example I was at UT when the bonfire collapsed in '99, and had some friends at A&M at the time. I spent enough time helping out in College Station that I'll never see A&M in the same 'rival' way again, and root for them whenever they're not playing Texas.

Of course don't tell IgnatiusTheKing any of this - I'll never hear the ***** end of it. ;)

Go Bucks!

I think the ESPN ranking of #2 is a bit high. I would love to see them live up to that, but this team is going to live and die by Pryor and I don't think I'll be comfortable with that until I see him play a few games. This is the year he either morphs into a play making monster or completely crumbles.

Anyone remember the old rule from the 80's (and before) that the crowd was not allowed be too loud? What a dumb rule...

That was actually the rule the SEC tried to use on us regarding the cowbells the second time they banned 'em. See, they banned "artificial noismakers" years ago when Shug Jordan at Auburn got pissy about cowbells, but they never did anything about them except take 'em from you if you got caught with one. Then, in the 90s, the SEC again banned "artificial noisemakers" and added in penalties for "excessive noise" using that stupid rule. Thankfully, the NCAA actually did something intelligent a couple of years later and got rid of that rule.

Man that's lame. I don't think teams should be able to pump noise through the stadium PA or have the band play during the action (**cough**BoomerSooner**cough**RockyTop**cough**) to make it louder, but fans ringing bells and doing other loud, annoying things are part of the atmosphere.

If you watch that YouTube link, you'll see that ref and the opposing team's QB were just waiting for the crowd to get quiet (I was at that game and remember the QB complaining to the ref repeatedly that he couldn't hear his own snap count, but the ref never did anything but allow him to wait. There were other games during the same time period where the ref would get on his mic and ask the crowd to quiet down—that didn't work either). Eventually he just gives up and snaps the ball. And then awesomeness ensued.

I just want to mention how much I HATE Rocky Top. 1st down? Play Rocky Top. 5 yard run? Rocky Top! And I swear that song is played across the entire state of Tennessee. You can be in Memphis on game day and hear it. Ugh.

Anyway, I can't watch the clip at work (YouTube Blocked), but what they did to use a few times if the QB or coach complained he couldn't hear was for us to burn a time out. They would usually give "crowd noise warnings" a couple of times before that, though. The SEC also gave the refs the ability to call delay of game on us because of the noise.

This year, the SEC did a compromise. We are officially allowed to bring in the cowbells and ring them, but only at approved times, which is basically whenever the band is allowed to play. I don't know how that will work out. I find it amazing that it wasn't a big deal when we were sucking throughout most of the decade, but we win a couple of games and scare a couple of teams, and it becomes the biggest topic at this years SEC AD meetings.

Hey now!?! Don't be hatin' homey!

Embrace the religious experience that is The Pride of the Southland Band and Rocky Top!

I watched my Ags get slaughtered by the Vols in the Cotton Bowl a few years ago and can definitely attest to the mind-numbingness that is "Rocky Top" but even they can't...uh...top "Boomer Sooner" for sheer annoyance. My god...can you imagine the cacophony inside a stadium where those two teams were squaring off against one another?

I bet your wife LOVES have so many Sooners around, not to mention Techies (Fort Worth, at least, is full of those, too).

It surprised her - being from Austin, there really aren't any of us there; but Denton and Frisco have quite a few Sooners.

And I know exactly what you mean about Techies - I'm an engineer, and I run into FAR more Techies than Aggies or Longhorns in my job.

I suspect because it was just a handful of years ago the Ags lost to the Sooners 77-0. Geez, even I got sick of hearing Boomer Sooner after that. :p

I don't go to Norman, but I've seen more than a few lopsided A&M-OU games in the last decade. A couple of good ones, too. Either way, "Boomer Sooner" sucks. ;)

Badandy is pissed off because his beloved Trojans were cheaters and were caught and are now sitting out the post season for the next two years!

He is just a very unhappy college football guy right now.

Yea, I knew the bitter jealousy had to come from somewhere. Makes a ton of sense now. His team just keep getting screwed, and Kiffin is only going to continue taking USC to the gutter.

Bring the hate back. You know you want to. Perhaps another Aggie win in Austin this Thanksgiving will stoke the fire?

I'd love to, but you guys have become so completely harmless that it's like getting all pissed off about a Pomeranian biting at your ankles. At first it's sort of annoying, but then you begin to laugh at the absurdity of this little dog doing everything in it's power to take you down. :p:p
