Cowherd is an idiot and has zero connections at UF.

Stab meaning Gruden though maybe? Chuckie stabbed people..Gruden lives in Tampa I believe and is close friend with Urban

That was my take on it. There are rumors coming out that some boosters and the AD want to return to a pro-style offense, so that would make sense.

My favorite one from the boards was Petrino backstabbing the Arkansas fans by leaving. I laughed at that one. My other favorite was "Saban Taking A Billion (dollars)" to coach.

I also saw the Bo Pelini story, but had him talking to Miami. That could be interesting, but I really don't see why he would go there. I really don't see Miami as being a better job than Nebraska.

No way at all is Miami a better job. Miami has went downhill fast. They didn't even have 20k fans at Clemson game. AND THEY WERE BUY 1 GET 2 FREE!

I'll have to find it, but I read a report that he (Pelini) had already basically shot down the Miami talks, but hadn't said anything regarding the Florida position.

Yeah, I read that but I wondered how accurate it was. I also wonder how many supporters he had before the bank collapse and the feds started investigating.
We moved there in 1978, and although granted I was just a kid then, in all that time I don't remember ever knowing anyone who I'd describe as a Lowder supporter.

The sad fact is that he is still there and in power and may be dragging Auburn down with him.
QFT.

So HE15MAN, will your opinion of Meyer change when he takes the Denver job in February?

Fixed that for ya! ;)

Announcing now gives him the buffer before taking the Denver job
A work stoppage for the NFL in 2011 may give him a year off
The timing works

Not saying it WILL happen, but I wouldn't be surprised at all

Nope, its because the Dawgs RULZ!!!11 :D

Yes, Moderators have a bigger avatar limit

Look, if you are gonna make it bigger, you could have at least picked a better looking Bulldawg. :D

I found this funny. There's a guy named LSUFreek who hangs out at a couple of different sports board. He's a Photoshop guru and has produced some hilarious images and animated gifs through the season. I wasn't sure if animated images would work here, so I just put a link to it.

Warning: language and some images in that thread may be NSFW.

This isn't a fark, but what a great representation of how fans of every other SEC team must feel right now.

Everyone (media types) keeps saying that Florida is one of the top one or two jobs in the country, but I just don't see it. Sure, they are in a recruiting hotbed and have tons of money and fan support, but they're also in the SEC. The road to a national title coming out of the SEC East is much more difficult than it is in the ACC, Big East, Pac-12, Big 10, or Little 10.

I know he has ties to FU, but the idea that Bob Stoops would leave OU seems ludicrious, too. Starting next year, he will get the "North" cupcakes on the schedule every year. And though A&M, Okie St and Missouri (and Baylor to a lesser, Baylorish degree) appear to be on the rise, the only "blue blood" he has to compete with is UT-Austin, who are coming off their worst season in a decade. And with no conference championship game to serve as a late-season trip-up, why would anyone leave? It could happen, I guess, but I just don't see it.

I think the Gators are going to throw around a bunch of "hot" names but end up with someone a little further off the radar. I'm not saying he won't be good (whomever he is), but I just don't see them stealing a coach from a major, BCS program.

Though with everything that has befallen Boise (come back, evilGEEK) in recent weeks, I bet Peterson will finally be willing to make the jump.

That argument was what some of our people were saying with Dan Mullen. Miami would be a quicker path to a conference and possible BCS title. I just don't see that, though since Miami has a terrible fan base, and terrible admin. As for competing in the SEC, though...every good coach has an ego. They have to in order to survive in the field. They have to believe that THEY can succeed where others have failed. Any good coach will thrive on competition.

I don't see them swiping Stoops, though. He has a good thing going at Oklahoma, but that can change in a hurry. Personalities clash, people get tired of each other, and somebody leaves. As was posted here earlier, there are rumblings among some boosters to push out Mack Brown, despite his achievements. So, strange things can happen.

I think they are going to go after some big names, but I don't know how successful they will be. Florida is a good program, with a huge recruiting base, huge fan base, and huge budget. And the competition doesn't get any better than the SEC. I think any coach that wants to prove himself will have a great opportunity. In the end, I think they may end up going the same route they did to get Meyer: A guy who has had success at a non-AQ school. They say they want a proven winner, (like this moron columnist) but that may come back and bite them if they overlook a good assistant. I mean, did anybody really thing Jimbo Fisher, for example, would have FSU in the ACC title game in his first year? Anyway, I think they are going to go after Petersen at BSU really hard. They have also tossed out Gary Patterson's name, but I would totally shocked if he leaves TCU. I also don't seem them getting someone like Harbough. I think he's holding out for Michigan.

Miami has the same recruiting base as FU and has always had a terrible fan base, even when they were winning national championships. I agree with the ego thing, but sometimes ego can be tempered by reality, and the reality is that there are marquee jobs that are easier than others. Miami is definitely an easier place to win than Florida and you'll get just as much love for doing it there as you will in Gainesville.

Let's not forget, also, that Florida football was pretty much **** for 100 years before Spurrier got hired and went back in the toilet as soon as he left. The Meyer hire was genius, but just because you've had two great coaches in the last couple of decades doesn't suddenly put you on the same footing with Alabama, Texas, Oklahoma, Michigan, Notre Dame, etc.

Quick, when was Florida's first conference championship?

1990*

I dunno, they have had a damn good run for 20 or so years (excluding the Zook years). Honestly, in the modern game, I think they are on par with the big boys and ahead of traditional powers like Notre Dame. Think about it: today's recruit have never known a time when Florida wasn't good. Conversely, I don't know that I would call Miami as an elite program anymore. For modern recruits, they haven't been good most of their lives. And yet, they still fire coaches after winning 7 games. With the way the ACC is, winning it is about like winning CUSA, except you get a BCS bowl out of it. You won the ACC? Big deal. They are only slightly ahead of the Big East.

I still think any coach worth his salt will want to prove himself against the best. Besides, if a coach wants to go the SEC, the East is the place to go. Before this year, only three teams had ever won the SEC East. In the West, 5/6 teams have been to the SEC championship game. Let's face it: Vandy and Kentucky probably are not going to win that division. And, without Spurrier (and Lattimore), USC is probably not winning that division. And if I were a coach, I would rather have the resources and fan base of Florida over Miami. It has to be depressing to players and coaches to walk out into a stadium and see 20k people there vs. 80k rabid fans.

Edit: It looks like Hawaii has made the jump to the MWC official. Can we start the death watch for the WAC yet?

Double Edit: This time of year cracks me up. After saying he wasn't in consideration, now comes this blurb that Tommy Tuberville is in consideration for the Miami job.

To be far don't most schools "buy" their trophies through they're recruiting. They all sweet deal the recruits with scholarships. What is the Heisman winner by school breakdown?

Notre and and Ohio State are tied at 7 winners. Check the list here. At least the number of Heismans is one area Auburn can claim they are better than Alabama.

Just wanted to add: scratch one more name off the Florida coaching list. It looks like Petrino has signed a raise and contract extension at Arkansas. Of course, given his past actions, this may not be enough to keep him there.

Anyone seen the recent Tweet from Tebow: @TimTebow: Welcome to the Gator family Coach Muschamp!

Looks like the Gators may have gotten them a coach!
