So, I know this question has been asked before, but what is the procedure to move your home folder off the SSD and onto the HDD? Am I correct that it comes with it setup on the SSD?

Thx

And there it is. Thanks :apple:

Just got my iMac last night. It's BEAUTIFUL!! I stayed up until 3am to set things up. Everything is up and running now, bootcamp, Parallel.. everything.

AWESOME!!!

Just rang TNT Australia, the man wasn't sure either. There was not even a sorry during the conversation, but lots of OK^, very impatient.

bad impression for TNT

I have a theory that TNT has to change planes between Shanghai and Sydney in Singapore, maybe this means yours did not make its connection??

Ordered 6/5 with expected ship date of 7/19 and expected delivery of 7/26 to Fort Worth, TX by standard shipping. Looks like it'll be here tomorrow. I was surprised that it went from China to Memphis without stopping in Anchorage. :)

Got my iTunes $100 back to school gift card without much effort. Just ask to talk to customer svc if they refuse or donno what they are talking about. It works as long as you got your computer within the last 14 days.

i also received my imac today. finally.

first thougth: display illumination - if i compare with my old 30" cd its much brighter but the illumination is irregular.

now have problems from coping my old hard drive from my mac pro... boot strap and so on.. dont want to new-install everything..

I just called Apple, and I was told since it was not bought as an 'educational' machine, I did not qualify?

I just called Apple, and I was told since it was not bought as an 'educational' machine, I did not qualify?

O yea.. of course you have to be a student or teacher. My wife is a teacher, so therefore the discount and promo.

Finally!

TNT is really bad, really.

The "delivered" my mac to me at 11:58 am and I signed for it. But I was 10km away at the time at work, as was my wife. I dont think my cat can forge my signature and she certainly cant turn the door lock.

I called Apple and asked wtf was going on, why their site said delivered when TNT site said it was still in Holland. They checked and confirmed delivery.

So I got home a few hours later, no delivery note, no parcel at the door. Nothing. Called TNT and to make a formal complaint. The guy on the phone was not at all happy with the driver, whom he contacted, as Apple has strict no delivery to 3rd party requirements, a of course forging my signature in effect.

It turns out he had left it at another house, expecting me to be telepathic about its location I guess.

Anyway, the iMac is here, unpacked and goes faster then free beer in a sports bar. Ive decided to set this up from new, no data transfer, just install the programs I use and my iTunes fresh. Ive moved my home directory to the HD.

Someone above asked how to move the home folder, its easy.

Make a Users folder in the root of the HD
Drag and drop a copy of <yourname> folder into the new User folder
goto the account manager and right click on your name and select advanced options.
Now find the home folder path and next to it select the choose button and navigate to the HD User folder/ and select the home folder.

Now reboot (relog maybe enough)
check your home folder on the HD which should now show a little house
Delete the SSD version of your home folder.

I had a slight problem in that I did my user folder from an admin folder account and It made my ~/Library folder have the wrong rights, but this was quickly solved.

ok, now back to installing!

So I suppose waiting another month or two for Lion will not really damage my:apple: SSD?

I wouldn't worry about it too much. See the screenshot for what i did. On the left are the aliases to the selected folders on the right. Left is the SSD right is the HDD.

Good luck!

Sheesh. It has been in Shanghai for a while or it just has not been scanned yet in Anchorage.

Thanks for the reminder, called today and got the $100 gift card - student purchase.

Sorry to get a bit off topic, my iMac will be arriving in just a few more days, very excited.

I have a few questions hopefully this thread can help me with.

I plan on migrating the data from my MBP to the new iMac, all the data (300GBish) won't fit on the SSD so will the migration assistant allow me to chose the drive I transfer the data too? If not how will I get round this?

I would like (like most people) to store my iTunes, iphoto, aperture, and movies folders on the HDD and the OS on the SSD,do I create 2 home folders? Or just have 1 home folder on the HDD, and how do I do this? Any good tutorial pages etc?

Hope you guys can help me, it's my second mac, never had to transfer data, never had 2 dhard drives.

I'm not sure about the first question, but here's the second:

CONGRATULATIONS!! Especially since you are the one to start this thread!:D

If you are like me you will be peaking out the window constantly for the driver, turning off any ambient noises so that you don't miss the sound of someone knocking, and counting every minute.

id do the same lolol

were some sick people :)

It will ask you what data to transfer to your new drive (the SSD). You can select the subfolders in your homefolder (only one level deep). So, deselect music, video, photo's etc. Then continue, after all data has transferred you can manually transfer the data via your ethernet/firewire network. I transferred the data to my 2TB disk directly, created some aliasses and dragged those aliasses to my homefolder. Check my previous post about my setup, i have iPhoto on the SSD (because it fits) and video / music on the hdd. Al works great, the only thing slightly more complicated is the Downloads folder (or any other "system"-folder. Check a few posts back, there were some good answers there. Hope it helps :D
