could I ask why people choose the 27inch iMac over the 21inch. I haven't got an iMac at the moment so I dont really know as i'm only using a 15inch laptop.

27" has the better quality GPU.

----------

I still don't understand how they'd have part numbers if some of them won't get released, does that make any sense, I'm so pissed if the 27 inch I want is not out by then, this is really effin annoying

Annoying? Ok, yes. But isn't waiting and knowing it's coming better than waiting and not knowing it's coming?

By the middle of next week you should know exactly what it looks like, what the specs are, and even probably exactly what day you can own one. I find that to be a marked improvement over the past .. ermm... year.

I guess you're right but at the same time a lot of have been waiting for this it's kinda sad that we waited all this long and now we have to wait even more. Don't get me wrong I'm I'm happy about all the news and all but how unlucky am I? Waited for the Mac Pro, they gave us a crappy "update" then they don't release the iMacs we have to wait the iMacs now the iMacs get release and no 27 inch :( you know it feels bad after crap like this happening you know.

Quite the hypocrisy! you are always telling people to "gtfo" if they are going to be negative, yet here you are complaining, like I said before, like a petulant child! Despite all the great news that graces us today, you are still whining like a true pessimist! You really need to "stf*" and be appreciative that we are getting new and redesigned iMacs. Big freaking deal you will be waiting while "effin annoyed" for a couple extra weeks. Grow up and realize that there are people that wait without food, shelter, and safety in different parts of the world. I'm sure you could muster up enough will, to get on by an extra couple of weeks, until you get your precious iMac. You are the very definition of negative, and yet your lack of insight sickens me. End rant :D
What's wrong there bud, you have some sand in your vagina ?

forty2j, my condolences to your dead iMac. I'm sure it will always have a special place in your heart :'(

Yeah I got some sand, but you should get treated for your flaming yeast infection!

p.s. quite the unsophisticated retort if you ask me. It seems like a new iMac for you, would actually be a waste of great technology. I'm not sure what someone, with limited faculty such as yourself, would want with a marvelous machine such as the iMac? A true quandary if you ask me.

After a bad evening at home, you never cease to cheer me up, "what's wrong there bud, you have some sand in your vagina" is defiantly the quote of the day for me. Thank you :)

I don't want to be having a stupid childish argument with you in a forum please ignore my post ill will do the same don't refer to me I will do the same and we can move on ok, I'm not a kid I'm not gonna fight over what you think because I simply don't care don't like my post ignore them ok. So can we please move on.

With one event, apple automagically updates all products plus bring in new one. Awesome!! :D

We never have anything like this before, apple event without specific theme.

  • As far as the waiting game for the 27"...I wouldn't put too much emphasis on that at this point. That's a lingering rumour that may or may not happen. The imac update APPEARS to be happening beyond a reasonable doubt...what we dont' know is release dates. Even if these release dates are day 1 for all models, there is very likely the possibility a wait of a few weeks may be in order simply based on back order.

I think simply knowing what we're buying will satisfy any lingering impatience built up over the past few months chasing this rumour.

I can respect that, I'm really not a tit-for-tat person, but you provoked me with your ridiculous comment about my supposed "bragging about the iPhone 5," which wasn't the case at all, and me being negative about the lack of a new iMac release, because there wasn't an iPad mini announcement. You stand corrected and as you can see based on several reports and rumors now that corroborate prior reports, that in fact, a massive across-the-board Mac refresh was indeed associated with the iPad mini event. So a lack of the iPad mini announcement and reported manufacturing delays gave rise to plausible assertion, that we may not have seen the new Macs being released this year. Even Brian Tong, in his recent "Apple Byte" video, had heard nothing on the rMBP 13" and iMac, and suggested that we may see new Macs in early 2013, which was very depressing, to say the least. I have been waiting since last February and have hoped for this time to come, and I am delighted, so don't tell me I haven't been supportive or was trying to incite negativity upon this forum because I wasn't. My first Mac should've been an iMac and I held out for the longest time, and had to settle for a MBA to hold me over. I am happy that this miserable wait is finally coming to an end and that new iMacs are insight. Next time, don't get me started...just my 2 cents.

Geekbench can tell us lots of things:
- Models exist
- Models are working well enough to run computations
- Part #'s for certain bits (BIOS/EFI, motherboard) to compare to part #'s of older bits and speculate on degree of difference
- Possible configurations (these had 3.4 GHz i7's with 16 GB RAM)
- Expected performance relative to other computers, at least in terms of computational activities

They can also be faked, so they don't definitively tell you anything, but people in the know can spot the real results (or at least extremely well done fakes) vs. the hogwash. These look plausible.

I would hate to interrupt the personal venting - don't they have wives, children or any other relative that can't escape the abuse. Nevertheless, I wanted to thank forty2j for the info above and elsewhere. More, sir, more.

It's also nice to read about theories on expectations at a time like this. There is much to learn about expectations in these heady moments of anticipation. I don't want to get my hopes up, but I'm a junky for that sht.

Thanks. :(

SOOOOOOO many hours of WoW logged on that poor iMac.

Ha! There are many hours of Diablo 3 I couldve logged, but the MBA isn't really up to the task, and allows for a sub-par experience. The iMac served its purpose all right. I shall be putting the new iMac to great gaming use and I can't wait. You seem like an avid gamer, hence your obession, with updated GPUs lol...just a personal observation ;)

Wise words...wise words indeed. Crap, and to think I almost caved and got a rMBP. Wow, tomorrow would've been my deadline!:eek::eek: Based on the reports, the new iMac appears to be a grand machine. I'm looking for 21.5" fully specced out! Hoping for a great GPU and I'll probably configure with all SSD (hopefully at least 512GB). Don't need a regular HDD...got 4TB of thunderbolt storage for that.

It could either be a sign for new imacs, or the new design :3

I've been working on the tagline:

We've got a little more to show you

OR!!!

Weave Gotye lit all moor tush owe ewe

which obviously means that Gotye will unveil his muslim heritage by mooning a sheep and lighting on fire a handwoven IOU... not sure what that means for possible iMacs though

What makes you believe that there will be an update of the imac next week? So far the "little" in the invitation points rather to the ipad mini and the mac mini? May be also the mbp 13? The potential leaked images + sku can this be taken seriously? Biggest disappointment would clearly be the release of ipad mini, mac mini, mbp 13, but no new imacs, although i do not hope so ...

Now that we have a date at least don't argue against each other but discuss with ...

Funniest comment I've seen in weeks, thanks for the chuckle!

We still don't know this.

Call me negative all you want. I would call myself "accurate."

I'm with you on this I think. AppleInsider and 9to5 are saying this so there is some reason to be optimistic. It still doesn't mean it's a sure thing though. Only thing to do is wait and see. :)

Why does this continue ????????

Check that video out about the Optimism Bias, and perhaps pick up some of the papers from their lab. It's pretty convincing, and shows how extremely useless being "accurate" can be when it comes to stuff like this.

TLDR;
Its far more rewarding and generally positive to be "inaccurate/ optimistic" than to be "accurate". I don't mind others being "accurate" but please don't shove this down our throat. We enjoy being happy :)!
