I keep thinking that the IMAC may be the opening act, rather than the main event or the chaser..... ... can start out with the non-drama stuff (in the eyes of the public and/or share holders) and work up to the bigger items....

No, the opening act is "look how much money we made on the iphone this quater bla bla bla bla"

How can they be "pushed back" They have had many many many months to sort this out. Epic fail in the wings!! I'm really loosing faith in Apple. First the Mac Pro, now this? I hope this isn't right. I'm getting myself all worked up to be very mad about this.

This is really starting to sound like another big let down like last time. Sounds like maybe they might have some whimpy base config models at best. "gameday decision"? what a load of crud.

It doesn't seem implausible to me that there is limited information surrounding the new computers, given the extreme focus on the iPad mini.

Regarding the 9to5 piece, hard to know what to make of that.... "some models." Huh.

All I know is that if they don't show an iMac and the Mac Mini has respectable specs, I'll be seriously considering it.

WTF is this crap on 9to5 Mac. The iMacs are being pushed back to who knows when????? Wtf????????

This has been the case for weeks now. It has been reported numerous times that the larger 27" models are having some screen assembly issues and that even though they may publicly introduce both new models, the 27" skus may not ship immediately.

Calm.

Here he comes, guys!

Large-scale screen lamination issues have been reported for the 27" iMac for weeks now. I think it would be a dumb move not to release 21" iMacs if they're available to ship now.

And I don't think they will wait. You can't get a non-stock 21" iMac in the Apple Store without a 5-7 day wait. (27" iMacs drop to 2-4 day ship time.) I still think we'll at least see the new 21" machines, with a later ship-time for the 27"

Could care less about the 21 inch I need a 27. Wtf

Calm yo tits boi.

No but seriously I hope apple pulls through and its not a let down.
I my self am waiting for the 27" and this wait is getting to me.
If some reason the 27"s do get delayed I hope the 21"s do come out still and they give us a good explanation as to what is going on and when to expect the 27" which I hope it won't take long at all.

You are right Xgman that they are going to start out with the stats... bla bla bla... but my whole theory, rather than predicting exactly is that they need to play into the "one more thing" approach in order to save some of the thunder for the end... and that may be the MacBook Pro 13"..... so I revise... if the IMAC ends up as part of the announcement, which now we are all really wondering (or in suspension), then we would have (I know I am on a limb here, and maybe just wishful thinking):

stats first
maybe mention imacs (or possibly not, if they will be released one to two weeks later)
then a big item, such as the ipad mini
then software and books and bla bla bla and then the mac mini and then another big item saved for towards the end, a retina macbook pro 13"
then wrapping up with a few unclarified mysteries about what it all means

and there is not going to be any new IPAD this time around and no upgrade to the IPAD 3, either.. the IPAD 4 will come out next June or July.

My first thought

My first thought when I read this portion:
"We know Apple has two refreshed models for the current 21-inch and 27-inch variants, but we have also heard at least some varieties of the new models will not be ready to ship directly after launch."

was, Ok, so the "regular ones" will be available but they are still having possible yield issues with a retina version.

Very disappointed at the possible delay again, but one can hope it is not as bad as it all seems...:(

Ditto

I did see this coming a mile away though knew they'd drop the ball yet again. It is the post PC era alright.

I would not call it dropping the ball... b/c we are likely a heck of a lot closer now to a new IMAC release than we were in June/July... and there is really something on the horizon.. even if it may barely squeeze into the stores on or before black Friday. and also, maybe we will not know the exact specifics of what is being released until Apple sorts through some of its supply chain problems...

I believe that 9 to 5 is a pretty good source... and they know something about the delay... they are not shooting in the dark as much as we on this forum are.. .that is for sure..

Actually, Ktulu, you have a very good point there, that even if we do not have a full spectrum release, we are likely going to get some kind of release. Additionally, based on that 9 to 5 framing of the situation, it seems that after the announcement, we are likely going to be more informed about the options.. we will get something and then be able to decide more about whether we want to wait it out for something that has not yet been released but is in the pipeline...

I still don't understand if apple knew (because they must of known ) that they 27 inch iMac will be out for a long time why would the send sku numbers, there's still something fishy on all this. If they are really not getting any coverage why bother ??? Apple just doenst mistakenly sends out sku numbers and then says "oh those numbers, don't mind those" if they sent it then that means they were 98% sure of what they were gonna do. But it's true why go so nuts over it right now were literately hours away for the event then if I see no new iMacs you're rally gonna see what's rage ........lol I'm serious

9to5 just tweeted that amazon only has a handful of Mac Minis and iMacs in its inventory.

So maybe the 27" iMac will have limited availability or be delayed a few weeks, but new iMacs have to be coming very, very soon.

I would like that very much. Sadly the 9 to 5 rumours saying the imac may be delayed further doesn't bode well. I don't think it's dramatic enough for an opening though.

Although its not not place here to say that when i sold my macbook 13 for a 15 inch retina there was much speculation that it was going to be a redesign. Sure the guts has been made over but the physical shape still resembles the one i sold but skinner much like the new iPhone and even the iPad.

Now here comes my question for iMac will the iMac go through such a similar change, apart from the retina screen will the iMac maintain its form factor in previous years we have seen major changes in form the first bubble iMac to the plastic iMac of 2005 do you think will we see a change as big as this?.

in summary at the moment i am not convinced in buying a new iMac although i want one for the extra ports such as thunderbolt, USB 3.0 and possible HDMI, better video card as mine is only 512mb. however should it retain the same form factor i think i will live out with my iMac for a few more years to come, as i mentioned in previous posts i just hate buying something that looks the same as what i had but thats just me.

So the "looks" of the computer drives your purchase decision.

I'm going to be so pissed if we don't get new iMacs tomorrow. No way does Apple wait till next year (nearly 2 years!) to refresh these - especially with Windows 8 days away. Apple is not that arrogant.

I'm worried. Especially since there hasn't much leaked about the iMac or the mini in the past couple of days.
