Let me pour more fuel onto the fire. Go to support.apple.com and type "imac 2013" in the search field. Now type "imac 2012". Get all hyped up.

The suggestions are actually cached from user input. If you search for "broken", you actually get "broken face" as a suggestion! Sigh.

Look, I am waiting like everyone else. But at the end of the day for MOST consumers jumping on the OS-X bandwagon, a 2011 machine will do a sterling job and would not know - nor care - the difference between ivy bridge or sandy bridge intel processors.

Lets examine the proposed benefits of a 2012 iMac over its 2011 iteration:

* USB3 is all about trying to future proof for most people. It's a physical advancement in an increasingly cloud-based world. When was the last time you used a USB stick? Yes, if you have peripherals, it can be an advantage BUT how many 'normal' consumers does this apply to?
* Ivy bridge on a desktop provides less than 10% real world improvement.
* Unless you are a gamer or a developer (and would thus benefit from improved GPUs) why would you care?
* Regards to changes to the form factor, well the current form factor is attractive enough for most people and what you don't know won't hurt you.
* Most people WANT an ODD so tick in 2011 box (uncertainty at best regards 2012)
* Screen lamination could be a significant factor to deal with screen dust particles-gate.

So you want an extra year's support from Apple at the tail end of the product cycle? Most people don't make purchasing decisions based on that and most people renew their computers well before they stop being supported (5-6 years down the line.

Trust me. Given the wait since Apri and my self-proclaimed ZERO interest in gaming, I wish I pulled the trigger 6 months ago. The 2011 machine is great.

I am with you.

1)USB3 is kinda unimportant to me. If I am looking for a storage solution I am either going cloud based or a TB raid system.

2) I am a developer so the extra horsepower WILL benefit me however at the office I am using a 2.3ghz i7 MBP with 27" display and it works just fine. So honestly it will be nice to have the extra horsepower, but to say I NEED it is an untruth.

3) I think I am one of the few that could care less about the form factor. The current 2011 iMac is beautiful. If they didn't change anything for 2012 I could honestly care less.

4) I couldn't care less about the optical drive. I can honestly say I don't remember the last time I used mine.

5) The screen lamination is great! I am all about that. No one likes dust. ;) Well weirdos might.(A dust fetish. Is that a thing?)

I have been waiting since January for a Mac Pro refresh. After June I decided that I was going to pick up the iMac refresh when it was released. When the 2013 Mac Pro (or its replacement) is released I will give the iMac to my wife and grab the Mac Pro. That is unless I can find an external solution for PCIe support. Then I will be an iMac convert.

Imagine if the upcoming event would be a Mac event instead of a iPad mini and they push the Mac mini towards the iPad event next year. The Wall Street journal said that they began full production not that that they were. Ohhh wishful thinking look where you have gotten me. Lol

I will not be that surprised. Imac & Mac mini need an event after so much time. Ipad mini target group is very close to the iPhone market and maybe it's not a good move to release them that close. Ipad mini can wait until March to be introduced next to ipad 4 when people will forget the iPhone 5.

But thats only my thoughts and what I wish of course.

Of course it's going to be iPad mini.

And then iPad mini mini. Then iPad maxi. Then iPhone 6.

And every event the hope and speculation just gets weaker and weaker as you cling pathetically to that last scintilla of hope out into the 2020s and beyond....

Well I can bring ONE good news.

The 21" iMacs are once more down in availability as they were during iPhone release.

I think they were going once again tried to launch iMacs in Sept, but failed to reach, so they produced new 2011 iMacs, which explained why stocks went so low, and how they got back up.

Now they are low again, and this time it could mean the new iMacs are ready (or they are once more delayed, but there is no WAY Apple INTENTIONALLY are keeping stocks low, neither for them self or for 3rd party resellers).

Amazon.com has still a lot (with 10.7 Lion installed)
Amazon.co.uk has none
Bestbuy has none
J&R has stock of highend 21" and lowend 27" but none of the others.
Apple stores have all, but in store pickup has fallen drastic for the 21" with restock date 11.oct.

Apple wants to make money like everyone else. They aren't going to go through october, and the entire x-mas season, with low stocks everywhere. Just not going to happen. Even though the iPod classic is EOLed they are still selling them, and stocks are fine!

Whatever happens happens, and can't happen any other way, but Apple aren't intentionally "not selling" Desktops.

iMac & 13" rMBP as creation devices and iPad Mini as consumption?

Tbh, Apple this year got raped by ALOT of delays.

They basically switched screen manufactoring of their entire lineup. So: rMBPs were short, iPhone5s were short, iMacs were delayed and iPad minis were delayed.

At this point, they need to push these products out ASAP. I don't think they are waiting for some tactical brilliance, I think they are incapable of pushing the products. IF they 13" rMBP, iMacs and iPad minis are ready for the 17th, they will launch them all then. That's not to say they will all get demo time at the event, but they will be released.

21" iMacs are down in availability because apple has its supply chain tied up with iPhone 5's and iPad minis. Sorry to burst your bubble. I've been waiting since February, but we can't read anything into stock shortages.

so when do you think they might be released?

Clearly. I just can't see them holding an event with "Here's all the unrelated stuff that we wanted to release earlier but couldn't". There needs to be a plausible theme to the event.

Lol the same machines that make iPhones don't make iMacs the same thing with supply chain the same supplies are not the same. However I do agree stock shortages don't mean much to me

"we're sorry; won't happen again"

..."free iMacs and Mac Pros for everybody who waited!"*

*with purchase of OSX Mountain Lion MSRP $1899

Yes Im sure its the same factories making iMacs and iPhones

You dont think shortages indicate a release this year or not ? Its all I'm speculating. I dont think they will end the year with stock shortages like now, and there is no reason to believe they will raise the production unless they hit another delay with the 2012 iMac.

If suddenly BB, JR and amzon all get full stocks, then we can give up on a 2012 iMac, but as long as they are short, we have hope.

They're independent of each other. Just how exactly do you think Apple's supply chain works?

The source may not be him, but the source may be just as clueless as the rest of us.

Thanks.

I wish I knew more but I'm just passing off what I hear. Figures why many think Apple Fanboys are so defensive. This is a damn RUMOR site and I'm just passing off hearsay and boom, get flamed.

Next time I hear anything, even if it sounds remotely true, I'll just be quiet.

He did leak the Iphone 5 stuff to me way before this site or anything else caught it so I don't have a reason to doubt.

Adding to what my source said [he's a dev for OSX], new iMac will be out in December, still sticking to the 27 and 32 in model he said.

I think it was mentioned somewhere in an article about Apple's security measures that OS X devs don't have access to iOS stuff and vice versa. Aside from that, producing two large units (27 and 32) instead of one small and one large (21.5 and 27) is unlikely, and Apple wouldn't release new products a mere few days before the holidays.

Kuo has been really good with the supply chain stuff, and found the rMBP that way. While he's not as good at picking launch dates, if there were 2 large iMacs and no small, he should have known that by now.

Yes this is the most obvious BS I have ever seen. Apple is not going to remove the 21.5 inch iMac as it sells to well. Also if his supposed source really does have insider info why isn't he selling it to rumor sites or starting up his own an making a killing?

Bingo! It would assume that perhaps the iPad mini has some sort of angle - be it anti-glare or some sort of e-ink - to compete on a better footing against the Kindle BUT books could be the theme that brings it all together on 18 Oct

Thanks.

You mean well. I am sure. But you discredited yourself (or your alleged source) a couple of days ago when you said the Mac Pro would be discontinued.

They're independent of each other. Just how exactly do you think Apple's supply chain works?

Obviously you don't. Since manufacturers aren't also in the business of shipping supply. The one or two companies that apple uses to ship world wide, might indeed be held up moving 5,000,000 iPhones.
