this is how people use the iMac here in Germany ;)

I can tell stories, too.

I'm just reporting what I've been told by the owner of a store that's been an official Apple Premium Reseller since before the Macintosh came out, and from which I bought several Apple devices in the past ten years.
He knows no more than we do (he candidly admitted so) but he is familiar with the flows of stock for the simple reason that it's been his job for a long time. Also, people here have been reporting that Apple Retail Store employees have been suggesting that there will be no new iMacs whatsoever to make a quick sale, and this guy is willing to forsake the sale of the last unit he has in stock by warning me that it may become old in a few weeks' time.
If anything, I appreciate the honesty.

Well, event invitations are "supposed" to go out tomorrow... hopefully they'll include Mac-related tease.

A new iMac, a Retina MBA and the iPad Jr. would make for a mighty fine Christmas shopping season ;)

Yeah i'm hoping that the invitations give us a little clue tomorrow

Just give me a 3rd gen i5, 2TB harddrive, USB 3.0 ports, and a beefier GPU. My credit card is ready.

If the invitation goes out tomorrow, you can bet that it will be full of clues round here :)

"look at the 'o' in 'you are invited', that looks like an iMac screen"

"if you add 's' to that word event that makes it an anagram of Steven and since he rescued Apple with the iMac...."

Oh man.... I might just ask my butler to bring me the revolver on the silver platter tonight after brandies....

well oct 9 has come and gone... the imac 2012 is becoming more and more elusive. cant really tell what is on apple mind right now...

All part of Appple hype machine this imac yes or no update secrecy.

Has this build up to a posible new mac ever been used in this way before.

All I want to know is if I get refurbished iMac what are the downsides?

There were none for me. My 3.4GHz i7 came with double the RAM (8GB instead of 4GB) and VRAM (2GB instead of 1GB) so I saved $600 / 20% over a new unit.

But apart from cosmetic side, is it any different in running? does it have fresh install or what ever previous owner installed?

My unit had no cosmetic issues nor did it have any screen yellowing. The machine had a clean factory install of OS X Snow Leopard (as I purchased it before Lion).

IF there was no iMac refresh this quarter and Haswell is due out in spring... do you think Apple will still go forth w/ the refresh?

If you think Haswell is actually coming in the spring, you haven't been watching Intel for very long.

Apple still has plenty of time to release an Ivy Bridge iMac and give it the (usual average) 9 month shelf life before replacing it with Haswell not rediculously long after it comes out. I'd put the absolute deadline for an Ivy Bridge iMac around February in this scenario.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I think the most offensive - and stupid - concept in a whole host of world-beaters is this statement:

But then, the processor upgrades typically only improve the speed by 10 to 15 percent, so the urgency isn’t extreme. So why not wait a little longer in order to bring customers something extra, “one more thing,” that would knock their socks off.

Wtf??? My urgency is WAY extreme....

Enough is enough!

Apple Reseller in my country was confirmed to me that the iMac will be updated sometime at the end of 2012

This is ridiculous! Now everyone is saying November...no...December...no...early 2013! The lame and baseless cycle just perpetuates itself. If Apple doesn't announce it at the iPad mini event or the end of this month, then lets not continue to delude ourselves - it ain't coming this year then and that's the simple truth! To be honest, all the speculation and hype that's never actualized is quite exhausting. I venture to say...if at the end of this month, you want or desperately need a new iMac, then please get a 2011 model (thought I'd never say this). If not and you prefer the latest hardware, then just get a goddamn 2012 MBP. The MBPs are awesome machines and do perform head to head with the latest iMacs. Rant over....
