The MBPs are awesome machines and do perform head to head with the latest iMacs. Rant over....

Not everyone wants to work on a tiny little screen

...and no, I don't want to have to connect a laptop to a monitor on my desk. I want a proper desktop.

This is ridiculous! Now everyone is saying November...no...December...no...early 2013! The lame and baseless cycle just perpetuates itself. If Apple doesn't announce it at the iPad mini event or the end of this month, then lets not continue to delude ourselves - it ain't coming this year then and that's the simple truth!

Word, and if that happens I hope enough people will be annoyed by Apple's infantile secrecy policy. I get the creating hype part, but that is hardcore losing customers. If the iMac business isn't that important to them anyways, why can't they just let people know when to expect an update? After all this time they are not getting anything out of it, other than some annoyed potential customers. The sad thing is, that they have a really great product with the iMac and most of us won't do what we should do, not buy their products anymore. I hope at the next Apple event somebody goes up on stage and shows that ***-clown what the majority thinks of their secrecy policy.

If somebody were to buy 2011 iMacs and returned them every time until a new one is released, I'd get it. And if all of Apple's customers did that, they would quickly announce their release schedule. Sure, it's a stupid thing to do, but then again there are people who name themselves after a plus-size bra, so who cares.

I'm getting tired of waiting. Also very tired of the iPad Mini rumors. Cut the crap and present me a decent desktop NOW.

Sorry Folks emotions are getting to me.

I want a new iMac just as bad as everyone else here, but sometimes we have be realistic and know when to just accept something. That said, hopefully Apple will announce it soon, if not, we'll just have to make due and move on with our lives

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I think the most offensive - and stupid - concept in a whole host of world-beaters is this statement:

Wtf??? My urgency is WAY extreme....

The amount of ignorance in that article is ridiculous. First, iOS emulation would be baked into OS X, not into the hardware. And second, people run iOS apps in OS X every day. It's called the developer kit. It's not even a remotely hard problem to solve to bring to the masses if they really wanted to. And third, touch on an AIO is still bad design.

Just stubbornness, with a bit of they don't really care on the side. So we wait, we complain, and then we get back in line and wait some more.

Where did you dig that one out? It's a pure comedy goldmine, just read the about the author section on the bottom:

"John Martellaro was born at an early age and..."

I think him being born at an early age explains a lot. I have a cousin who was born at an early age as well, and there is no joking with that guy.

True, but fantasy can be a good outlet for the rage : ) But yeah, in the end it's just a computer, we'll all live.

Searched for iMac on Google News and it just came up as a new article....wish I hadn't....

All part of Apple hype machine this imac yes or no update secrecy.

Has this build up to a posible new mac ever been used in this way before.

In terms of actual sales, I can only see this improving their current iMacs.
The longer the new one takes, the more people are quitting and buying another machine.
I speak only for myself, but if I buy a different machine, that's it. I'll be set for a few years. And I'm sure there are a lot of people in the same situation. Not every one can buy a new computer every 6 months.

But we should have some sort of rumor on it by now...

Like what? We've "known" it would have a new screen since around July. Everything else is just boring computer stuff. Yes, it has Ivy Bridge, USB 3, and a new GPU. No, it doesn't make toast. Don't expect more than a day notice of a "confirmed" launch date.

"John Martellaro was born at an early age and began writing about computers soon after that. He is a former U.S. Air Force officer and has worked for NASA, White Sands Missile Range, Lockheed Martin Astronautics, the Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Apple. At Apple he worked as a Senior Marketing Manager, a Federal Account Executive and a High Performance Computing manager. His interests include skiing, chess, science fiction and astronomy."

Lol...Apple hired him because he was born at an early age...he should've succeeded Steve Jobs

Recent Imac Rumor

I heard a rumor that skeletor was harbouring all the new 2012 imacs in his dungeon in castle grey skull in his quest to slow multimedia production and cause general civil unrest...

So none of you piggly S.O.B's are gonna get a piece! :D

I call BS on that one, Skeletor doesn't have anything at Castle Grayskull, if he had them, they would be located at Snake Mountain. I think there might still be hope.

If you think Haswell is actually coming in the spring, you haven't been watching Intel for very long.

Apple still has plenty of time to release an Ivy Bridge iMac and give it the (usual average) 9 month shelf life before replacing it with Haswell not rediculously long after it comes out. I'd put the absolute deadline for an Ivy Bridge iMac around February in this scenario.

Ok sir. Just going by what's on Wikipedia.

Lol! taken inside an ICE, first class! This is typical german...:D

Yes, I remember this well from my time in Germany. The majority of students at the FH would bring in iMacs, desktop computers with CRT monitors and refer to it as "LAN parties", if memory serves. The professors seemed very upset about this behavior though and I remember a certain physical altercation between the professor and 4 students, who insisted on playing music loud for every one to hear during the lecture. Germany is a crazy place to be, although I never noticed it in trains over there.

this is an interesting article. as an artist who does almost all of her work on an early 2008 macbook pro, the rmbp is looking like a surprise contender for me. i've been waiting since almost a year ago for the imac refresh, thinking that the extra screen real estate (along with the power of course) would be important and useful, but i wouldn't even want a 27" anyway – too big for me to use comfortably at my desk – and given that it looks like the imac refresh won't have an impact on 21" screen resolution, regardless of retina or not, the smart choice might end up being the 15" rmbp. then again, the entire 2012 imac line will most likely outperform the rmbp, so i might as well wait and see if they get announced soon.

I too have been waiting very patiently for the 2012 iMac. Screen lamination aside (which will prevent dust from accumulating under the screen, which the iMacs are notorious for), I don't see anything dramatic, physically, happening with the 2012 iMacs, save for a redesign which hasn't been speculated or hinted. However, one may infer that if Apple is reengineering their iMac screens, then that itself may point to a new iMac design. I really would love a 21.5" iMac, but the current high-end rMBP outperforms the current 21.5" iMac on all fronts! Heck it even comes close to the top of the line 27" iMac. Next week, the 17th is my deadline, if there is no news or announcements of a refresh, then I shall put an end to the wait.
